    Lecturer/Researcher: Academic Literacy Coordinator : Academic Language and Literacy Development

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Teach an Education academic literacy module (including online and/or blended learning format).
    • Design appropriate formative and summative assessments within the Academic Literacy Programme / module.
    • Mark assessments and provide feedback to students.
    • Design learning and teaching materials for use by facilitators within the Academic Literacy Programme.
    • Use various communication platforms to communicate with students and facilitators.
    • Manage the implementation and student support of the M-Reader and iCAN extensive reading programmes for own cohort.
    • Present academic writing workshops and consultations for students and consultation sessions in the writing centre (online and/or face-to-face).
    • Coordinate and ensure quality within the Academic Literacy Programme through facilitator evaluation and moderation, as well as student module evaluation.
    • Conduct research into students’ academic literacy needs.
    • Research and analyse global trends in English for academic purposes as they relate to key strategic imperatives.
    • Produce 1 (one) research output per year in the form of a conference paper and/or article publication.
    • Create and nurture a culture of inquiry, research and evidence-based practice within the ALLD.
    • Coordinate academic literacy modules for the Education faculty (including online and/or blended learning format).

    Inherent Job Requirements:

    Office Manager: Office of the Dean (post level 11): Faculty of Theology and Religion - (1024)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    ​​Provide an effective and professional reception/interface between the office of the Dean and members of the university community, public, private and community organisations, churches, business and government sectors.

    • Provide effective support to the Dean by handling general enquiries, telephone calls, dealing with or referring enquiries, as well as arranging travel and accommodation bookings for the Dean.
    • Manage the diary of the Dean, which includes schedules of appointments, and setting up meetings with the relevant departments, committees and/or external stakeholders.
    • Deal with general administration, including typing and dispatching e-mails, correspondence, reports, directives, schedules, references, filing and other documentation.
    • Circulate documents to Academic Departmental Heads/committees/persons where action is required.
    • Scrutinise incoming mail of the Dean (where required) and prioritise according to urgency. 

    Maintain a pending system for following up on previous correspondence and refer items to the Dean for follow-up action.

    • Investigate complex queries and prepare responses/reports for the Dean.
    • Draft letters, reports and PowerPoint presentations to assist the Dean.
    • Compile agendas, registers, take minutes at meetings, disseminate and file for accurate record keeping as required.

    Senior Assistant Officer (post level 12) - (1027)

    • Provide administrative support to the Line Manager and the School.

    Postdoctoral Research Fellowship 2023: Mathematics Education - (1013)

    Eligibility requirements:

    • Open to all South African and foreign nationals for full-time research at the University if the Free State. 
    • Graduated with a PhD degree in Mathematics Education within the last five years

    • Conduct innovative research and work with Research Chair in the following focus areas: Pre-service Mathematics Teacher Education in South Africa and the related challenges;  Provision of Continous Professional Development (CPD) in relation to the needs of mathematics teachers in Primary and Secondary Schools; Performance of learners in mathematics in the Senior and FET Phases and the relationship to the performance in mathematics at the University; The status of Primary Mathematics Teachers’ content knowledge and how this has changed over the past 10 years in South Africa; Mathematical Modeling and its Applications in school mathematics; Ethnomathematics and the Introduction of Ethnomathematical Approaches in the teaching and learning of school mathematics; Other Mathematics Education research focus in line with the focus and activities of the Research Chair .

    Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (1-year Contract) - (1005)

    • The fellowship will enable an outstanding doctoral graduate to obtain experience of research and innovation at a higher education institution under the mentorship of established researchers.
