    Lecturer: Sesotho Education - (1014)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Provide formal teaching for undergraduate as well as post-graduate programmes.  
    • Act as a supervisor for postgraduate students.
    • Ensure active involvement in research.  
    • Active involvement in curriculum development relating to Sesotho Education.
    • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Sesotho Education mainly and Languages in general.
    • Participate in the work integrated learning programme of the Faculty (teaching practice).
    • Ensure active involvement in research activities of Faculty.
    • Contribute to curriculum development in the field of Languages Education specifically.
    • Supervise and provide consultation sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
    • Work in a team with colleagues within the Faculty.
    • Contribute to leadership and administrative tasks related to the Faculty.

    Inherent requirements:

    • PhD in Languages on NQF level 10 (for a permanent appointment), with specialisation in the teaching and learning of Sesotho.
    • or
    • A relevant master’s degree in Languages on NQF level 9, with specialisation in the teaching and learning of Sesotho (for a contract appointment: 5 years during which a PhD in Languages on NQF level 10 with specialisation in the teaching and learning of Sesotho MUST be obtained to be converted into a permanent position).
    • Candidates should submit an abstract of their thesis or dissertation to indicate relevance to the area of teaching and/or learning of Sesotho.
    • A formal teaching qualification (e.g., Diploma in Education or Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent) with a focus on the Teaching and Learning of Sesotho.
    • A minimum of five (5) year’s relevant teaching experience in a school context or two (2) years relevant experience in a post-school environment (e.g. as lecturer or researcher).
    • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentation at academic conferences or equivalent.
    • Provide evidence of manuscript (s) produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication, ideally in an accredited journal.

    Recommendations: 

    • A relevant doctoral degree with Languages on NQF level 10 with specialisation in Sesotho.
    • Proven research record of relevant publications in national or international accredited journals.
