    Lecturer: Social Sciences/ Community Development - (1019)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Teach community development courses at a range of levels, from first year to fourth year.
    • Knowledge of Community Development theories, concepts, and processes.
    • Knowledge of either Project Management Processes and or Social Policy in Development contexts.
    • Knowledge of Community Development Practice. 
    • Contribute towards creating a strong academic identity for Community Development locally and globally through initiating and conducting high-level research and sustainable quality research output.
    • Contribute to teaching, supervision, and curriculum development across all levels.
    • Develop appropriate assessments, supervise, mark, and examine projects, student dissertations and practical work.
    • Actively participate in applicable UFS and Faculty structures and committees.
    • Actively participate in both internal and external committees that support Community Development as a profession.
    • Contribute to processes that incorporate the student voice in departmental decision making.
    • Review and support the development of high-quality programme content.
    • Contribute to building an effective team of scholars.
    • Actively support and participate in a range of departmental, faculty and institutional activities such as open day, registration, graduation, recruitment, among others. 
    • Any other duties as requested by the Head of Department.

    Inherent Job Requirements:

    • Lecturer
    • A PhD degree in Social Sciences/ Community Development or cognate discipline on NQF Level 10 (for a permanent appointment).
    • OR
    • A Master’s degree in Social Sciences/ Community Development or cognate discipline on NQF Level 9  (contract appointment: 5 years, during which a PhD in Social Sciences/ Community Development or cognate discipline on NQF Level 10 must be obtained to be converted into a permanent appointment).
    • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
    • Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals. 
    • A good academic record.

    Recommendations:

    • A PhD degree on NQF Level 10 in Social Sciences/ Community Development or cognate discipline.
    • Advance progress in doctorate studies in related field.
    • Evidence of at least one publication in community development or cognate field.
    • Three (3) years of proven experience in teaching of either project management processes and applications and/ or social policy in development contexts.
    • Registration with professional association.
    • Knowledge of University systems, technologies and operations.
