    Lecturer- Department of Early Childhood Education - Faculty of Education (One Post)

    RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    The incumbent will be expected to fulfil the duties of a Lecturer in the Department Early Childhood Education as described in the minimum requirements. These duties include:

    • Curriculum development and lecturing of modules in the programme(s) based in the Department;
    • Pursuing research activities such as own research, research-based publications and the supervision of postgraduate students registered in the Department;
    • Developing, presenting and co-ordinating undergraduate and postgraduate courses for pre-service and in-service teachers and other students for contact and distance programmes;
    • Mentoring students for practice teaching/work integrated learning;
    • Using a learning management system to develop and present courses;
    • Presenting lectures and programmes in an E-learning environment;
    • Providing a significant contribution to research outputs, postgraduate teaching and supervision.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Lecturer:

    • M Ed in Early Childhood Education / Foundation Phase, or equivalent degree;
    • One to three years teaching experience in Early Childhood Education and/or Foundation Phase;
    • Evidence of some research experience;
    • Evidence of school-based or related tertiary level experience;
    • Evidence of some admin or managerial skills or leadership and commitment to ongoing professional development;
    • Knowledge and experience of facilitation in an E-learning environment.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    Knowledge of the following; 

    • South African education system and policy framework on Early Childhood Development and Foundation Phase Education;
    • Knowledge and experience in Early Childhood Development and Foundation Phase Education programmes and approaches in Inclusive Education, Learners with Special Educational Needs (LSEN), and Learning Support;
    • Appropriate language and communication skills;

    Assistant Director: Library Quality Assurance and Marketing

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • Managing and reporting quality management systems of all specialist units that work directly with library service provision to all faculties, all students, researchers, and staff;
    • Applying measures and innovative strategies for the audit of quality management systems, processes, and products;
    • Developing and implementing quality assurance policies and procedures to ensure product and service quality meets library standards;
    • Providing strategic leadership and management of business intelligence measures;
    • Providing business data analytics and insights;
    • Presenting data/information positively, clearly, and accurately;
    • Aligning the library’s marketing initiatives to the work done in the Department of Library Services; and ensure the use of appropriate channels;

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • A four-year B degree in Library and Information Science or an equivalent relevant qualification;
    • Relevant Honours;
    • A total of six years’ of experience in an academic or research library of which two years’ must be in a supervisory/management role.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • Knowledge of user experience principles;
    • Proven experience in business intelligence, working with usage statistics;
    • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in library marketing and quality assurance;

    Lecturer - Department of Pharmacology - School of Medicine - Faculty of Health Sciences

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • Teaching basic, clinical and regulatory pharmacology at tertiary level including the theoretical basis of scientific principles, experimental design, and regulatory affairs;

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • Offering and coordinating education programmes and leadership in MMed Sports and Exercise Medicine, PG Diploma in Sports and Exercise Health, MSc Sports Medicine;

    Professor/Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer and Term Head - Department of Production Animal Studies

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    The successful candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

    • The strategic and operational management of the Department;
    • Planning and managing the academic, research and clinical programmes of the Department, including the training of veterinary specialist residents;
    • Promoting academic excellence in teaching and research;
    • Recruiting and managing staff of the Department and promoting their continuous development;

    • An appropriate MMedVet-degree and/or equivalent specialty board certification appropriate to the disciplines within the Department and registration with the SAVC as a specialist and
    • at least two full peer-reviewed paper in an accredited scientific journal as author or co-author or
    • An MSc degree appropriate to the disciplines within the Department and registration with the SAVC as a Veterinarian and five or more research-based full papers in an accredited scientific journal as senior author and/or co-author in the last five years.

    Associate Professor

    • A BVSc or BVMCh degree or equivalent professional veterinary qualification;
    • An appropriate MMedVet-degree and/or equivalent specialty board certification appropriate to the disciplines within the Department and registration with the SAVC as a specialist and
    • at least five full peer-reviewed paper in an accredited scientific journal as author or co-author; or
    • An MSc degree appropriate to the disciplines within the Department and registration with the SAVC as a Veterinarian and ten or more research-based full papers in an accredited scientific journal as senior author and/or co-author, with five of these publications being in the last three years.

    Professor

    • A veterinary degree and registration with the SAVC or eligibility to register;
    • A PhD appropriate to the disciplines within the Department and registration with the South African Veterinary Council or eligibility to register with the Council. 
    • The candidate must possess the requisite criteria as above to be eligible for appointment as Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor or Professor in the Department of Production Animal Studies at the University of Pretoria, the assessment of which is based on several factors, including teaching, research and postgraduate supervision, community engagement, academic administration and academic citizenship applicable to the level of appointment; as well as
    • High-profile in the veterinary profession;
    • Management experience; and
    • An appropriate vision for the Department.

    Senior Lecturer: Clinical Pathology - Department of Companion Animal Clinical Studies

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The successful candidate will actively participate in the following areas:

    • Teaching and practical training of undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary and veterinary nursing students in Veterinary Clinical Pathology;
    • Clinical service in the Clinical Pathology Laboratory including participation in a 24-on-call service;

    OR

    • A BVSc or BVMCh degree or equivalent professional veterinary qualification;
    • MSc degree with particular focus on clinical pathology or equivalent;
    • Registration/authorisation with the SAVC as a Veterinarian;
    • Five or more research-based full papers in an accredited scientific journal as senior author and/or co-author in the last five years. The research should be focused towards a particular subject area (e.g. specific disease or aspect of laboratory diagnostics) and not be broad; and
    • Four years veterinary experience with three years’ experience in predominantly Clinical Pathology.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • Proven knowledge and competence in veterinary clinical pathology;
    • Research interest appropriate to the position;
    • Commitment to develop a teaching and learning portfolio required at the relevant

    • A minimum of three years of veterinary clinical experience predominantly in reproduction aspects; and

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • Proven knowledge and competence in veterinary clinical work with an emphasis on reproduction aspects;
    • Research interest appropriate to the position;
    • Candidates without a PhD: commitment to obtain a PHD within reasonable time in a field related to the discipline of veterinary reproduction;
