    Lecturer P8: Computer Science

    Minimum Requirement

    Lecturer P8

    • PhD or MSc in computer science or relevant discipline
    • One year or more of experience at tertiary level will be an added advantage.
    • Evidence of active research and some publications in journals accredited by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) will be an added advantage.
    • Evidence of active participation in professional, industry and/or community activities.
    • Knowledge and experience in implementing quality assurance requirements.

    Recommendations 

    • specialization in at least one of the fields: Algorithms and Programming, Database Systems, Computer communication networks, Data Structures, Programming Languages, Machine Learning, Computer Security and Ethics, Artificial Intelligence.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Teaching and Learning

    • Deliver teaching and learning in undergraduate and post-graduate Computer Science modules.
    • The facilitation of an effective teaching situation in which the learning experience can take place successfully.

    Research

    • Supervisor for postgraduate students.
    • External examining/moderation and invitations to teach externally.
    • Publish research in reputable journals.
    • Keep abreast of professional literature.

    Lecturer (P8)/ Senior Lecturer (P7): Mathematics

    Minimum Requirement

    Lecturer P8

    • Masters in Mathematics or Equivalent
    • Area of expertise must be Topology or Functional analysis
    • Evidence of teaching experience at tertiary level will be an added advantage
    • Evidence of active participation in professional, industry and/or community activities.
    • Excellent computer skills (MS Office Suite).

    Senior Lecturer P7

    • PhD/Doctorate in Mathematics or equivalent qualification
    • Area of expertise must be Topology or Functional analysis.
    • At least five years relevant experience
    • Proven track record in teaching, research (including publications in accredited journals) and community engagement at tertiary institutions.
    • Proven track record of supervising postgraduate students at Masters and/or Doctoral levels
    • Excellent computer skills (MS Office Suite)

    Recommendation

    Lecturer: 

    • PhD or progress towards PhD completion
    • Proven track record of supervising postgraduate students at Honours level

    Senior Lecturer: 

    • NRF rating or demonstrate the potential for obtaining an NRF rating.

    Lecturer (P8)/ Senior Lecturer (P7): Botany

    Minimum Requirement

    Lecturer P8

    • At least a Masters/PhD degree in Botany/Biology (or related field) with a specialisation in Plant Ecology or Plant Physiology.
    • Evidence of some teaching experience at tertiary level will be an added advantage.
    • At least one relevant, published full-length paper in a peer-reviewed scholarly journal (not mandatory)
    • Evidence of active participation in professional, industry and/or community activities.
    • Evidence of competence in the administration of a course/subject at the departmental level. 

    Senior Lecturer P7

    • PhD in Biology/Botany (or related field) specialising in Plant Ecology or Plant Physiology
    • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant teaching experience at tertiary level 
    • Evidence of managing a research program  
    • Evidence of relevant, published full length papers in peer-reviewed scholarly journals 
    • Evidence of postgraduate students supervision 
    • Evidence of successful curriculum development and academic management (not mandatory) 
    • Evidence of active participation in professional, industry and/or community activities 
    • Knowledge and experience in implementing quality assurance requirements 
    • Evidence of external funding or demonstrate the ability to apply for external funding. 
    • Evidence of statistical competence.  

    Recommendation

    Lecturer: 

    • Experience with online teaching platforms and blended learning approaches will be an added advantage 
    • Evidence of competence in the administration of a course/subject at the departmental level 

    Senior Lecturer: 

    • Experience with online teaching platforms and blended learning approaches 
    • Research active with evidence of participation in collaborative research programmes. 
    • NRF rating or demonstrate the potential for obtaining an NRF rating. 
    • SACNASP, ResearchGate and ORCID ID registration.

    Senior Officer: Employment Relations (P9)

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) in Labour Relations or Law.

    Recommendations

    • Exposure to HR and ER practices in a Higher Education environment.
    • ITS knowledge would be an added advantage.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Employment relations consulting/ coaching

    • Build and maintain relationships with line managers and staff.
    • Providing consultation services, advise and guide the staff and managers on ER-related matters.
    • Assist with interpretation of the policies.

    Develop and Implement HR Policies and Procedures

    • Develop and review relevant policies and procedures. 
    • Conduct training for all stakeholders.  

    Case Management.

    • Represent the University in disputes referred to CCMA.
    • Consult and prepare line managers and HR Practitioners for CCMA disputes.
    • Provide adequate assistance to the representatives of all parties to ensure sound labour relations.

    Effective management of discipline/Grievances

    • Provide an advisory service to line managers on effectively managing misconduct, performance and grievance procedures.
    • Ensure that grievances, disciplinaries and disputes are attended to within the stipulated time from the date of occurrence and that chairpersons’ reports are submitted to the ER Office.
