    Purpose of Role:

    • Ensure that all machinery are compliant to SANS and OHS act and they operate efficiently, safely, and reliably in order to meet maintaining production schedules, controlling costs, and supporting overall business performance.

    • Ensure that all machinery are compliant to SANS and OHS act and they operate efficiently, safely, and reliably in order to meet maintaining production schedules, controlling costs, and supporting overall business performance.
    • Objectives & Measurement

    Key Responsibilities and Specific Accountabilities:

    • Repairs to cranes, AC drives, DC drives, electrical and mechanical installation motors, panels, cables, joints and basic instrumentation equipment.
    • Conduct regular maintenance on cranes, including preventive and corrective maintenance.
    • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues with crane systems.
    • Replace or repair faulty parts and components on cranes as needed.
    • Offer guidance and recommendations for improving crane performance and safety.
    • Develop, modify, and test PLC programs and logic to meet production needs, and ensure PLC systems are in compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
    • Perform regular maintenance on PLC systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
    • Diagnose and resolve PLC-related issues, including software and hardware faults.
    • Mechanical and electrical repairs to compressors, presses, generator, boilers, substations, facilities etc.
    • Ensure all panels, machines and equipment are compliant with SANS and OHS Act.
    • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical/electrical faults and malfunctions in a safely manner.
    • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on machinery to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
    • Adhere to safety and housekeeping as per company and OHSA requirements.
    • Adhere to all safety rules and regulation.
    • Adhere to all statutory SHE/ 5S requirements
    • Adhere to Duty of Care Policy at all times

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications 
    Education and/or Experience:

    • Qualified Artisan and three to five years related experience.
    • Proven experience working with PLC systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
    • Experience with various types of cranes, including overhead, gantry, and mobile cranes.

    Certifications:

    • PLC programming and maintenance (e.g., Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation) are advantageous.

    Technical skills:

    • Strong understanding of electrical and control systems.
    • Familiarity with SCADA systems and other industrial automation technologies.
    • Proficiency in PLC programming (ladder logic, function block diagram, structured text etc.) and troubleshooting.
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals.
    • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude and knowledge of machinery and equipment.

    Language Skills:

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

    Mathematical:

    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

    Reasoning Ability: 

    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

    Computer Skills:

    • MS Office

    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
