    Technical Director (JHB North)

    Managing  

    • Manage the Technical Crew during live and pe-recorded productions.
    • Manage Freelance staff during live and pre-recorded productions.
    • Ensure that the Crew maintains safe and responsible handling of the equipment.
    • Manage crew disciplinary issues on & off air and holding regular team or one on one meetings with crew members to address disciplinary issues that may arise or affect production. As team leader to identify training needs for crew members and giving the necessary feedback to management.

    Directing  

    • Liaise with Technical Operations Management in order to formulate and maintain standard operating procedures.
    • Act as liaison between Engineering and Technical Operations to report equipment failure.
    • Respond to equipment failure and find work around solutions.
    • Work with editorial in Planning and blocking of content for final output
    • Assist with training the crew when using equipment such as switches, cameras, monitors, microphones, lighting etc.
    • Ensure upskilling and self-development in gallery soft skills such as Production Assistant PA, Server Playout operation and Telly Prompter not limited to the listed skills to assist when needed on any production. (Training every quarter)
    • Ensure that programs conform to eMedia policies and regulations
    • Ensure equipment is ready and technical checks are completed.
    • Operate equipment to produce pre-recorded programs or broadcast live programs from remote location.

    Vision Mixing

    • Select required images and ensure a smooth transition between shots which involves ‘cutting’, ‘mixing’ and ‘wiping’.
    • Monitor different media/visual sources, i.e. pictures from several cameras, digital video effects, and graphics and outside broadcast materials.
    • Ensure vision mixing follows correct broadcast standards.
    • Ensure that all the key elements i.e. crawlers and lower thirds units are setup correctly.
    • Setup DVE elements as per production/show requirements
    • Ensure upskilling and development in vision mixing standards and requirements every 6 months.

    Requirements

    Qualifications

    • National Diploma in Television and Film and/or Video Technology and/or Broadcasting Technology

    Experience

    • 8 years in Broadcast and/or Technical Operations
    • 3 years in Technical Directing
    • Drivers Licences - Essential

    Rentals Liaison (Western Cape)

    KEY DELIVERABLES

    Quoting

    • Following up on leads from prospective clients.
    • Meeting with local and international filmmakers and reporting back to Management and/or Manager: Operations.
    • Booking in jobs as per client’s request.
    • Compiling quotes in accordance with client specifications and ensuring gear is booked accordingly.
    • Managing the quotations process from commencement to completion.
    • Preparing client agreements and ensuring adherence to applicable terms and conditions
    • Ensuring all allocations are completed timeously.
    • Planning for gear shortages.
    • Responding to relevant client correspondence (emails and phone calls) timeously.
    • Liaising with Production, crew and the operational floor staff to eliminate delays and unplanned changes.
    • Ensuring that the generator and operators are booked, as required.
    • Communicating high demand gear to Manager: Operations, based on client feedback.
    • Working with the operational team to plan logistics for hired-in gear or interbranch movement of gear.
    • Ensuring that the Rental’s invoicing process is complete including missing and damaged equipment/items.

    KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

    Key Performance Indicator 1

    • All Client emails responded to within 1 day.
    • When quoting, a commercial should have a 1 day turnaround and feature a 2 day turnaround whilst keeping all stakeholders informed and/or updated.

    Key Performance Indicator 2

    • Ensuring that equipment bookings are correct thus avoiding issues relating to overbooking and/or financial wastage.

    Key Performance Indicator 3

    • Ensuring that equipment challenges identified and are escalated timeously to Manager: Operations.

    Key Performance Indicator 4

    • Ensuring proper communication with Store, Dispatch and Receiving and On Set teams to ensure a workflow that makes successful shoots.

    Requirements

    Intern: Media Library (Cape Town CBD)

    Specific Tasks and Outcomes

    Music Usage 

    • Checking and filing all cue sheets as per the required departmental standard.
    • Verifying cue sheets from the reports to what has been submitted.
    • Ensuring the various search engines are being utilized to ensure the retrieval of the cue sheets and that correct music details has been captured.
    • Utilising BCM to cross check the relevant information captured on the cue sheet.
    • All cue sheets received is filed according to the titles in the BMS and not what is supplied to us from the production/distributor or internal stakeholders, renaming the files to match the scheduled titles

    Digital Asset Management Administration (DAM)

    • All media and deliverables are written to the DAM must be verified against the BMS and metadata documents before being archived.
    • Archiving of all supporting documentation and deliverables according to the prescribed delivery standards as per the tech spec document.
    • Verification with the relevant departments needs to be conducted before metadata is archived

    Over the Top Administration (OTT) 

    • Sourcing metada to complete the metadata sheets for upload into the CMS from the various systems – Broadcast Traffic System (BTS),
    • Rights Management System (RT) and the media file to ensure accurate information is gathered and uploaded to the CMS
    • Source raw artwork and provide to design agency, 1-2 months prior to the publish date and ensure that artwork is delivered to specification for all devices

    Requirements

    • A National Diploma in Media Studies and/or Library Information Science.

    Administration 

    • Receiving and capturing associated freelancer invoices monthly whilst ensuring approval, rates and details are accurate.

    Intern: Media Operations

    Specific Tasks and Outcomes

    Quality Assurance

    • Analysing audio and video quality of programmes in real time.
    • Ensuring that the technical quality of all media operations material is in line with the Internal and External broadcasting specifications.
    • Ensuring that all timings and other relevant information are correctly loaded on the Media and Broadcasting Management systems.
    • Ensuring that all material required for broadcasts are ingested and a quality assurance review is performed on ingested material as per the given schedule.
    • Ensuring the correct material is captured and conforms to broadcast standards.
    • Evaluating images and processes through PSE (Photosensitive epilepsy) test if and when required.
    • Mastering finished material timeously and archiving existing projects.

    Intern: Traffic Coordination

    Description

    • Reporting to the Executive Creative Director and/or the Manager: Traffic, the key performance areas include but are not limited to: 

    Traffic Coordination

    • Coordinating and/or scheduling of voiceover artist bookings.
    • Coordinating with external production companies relating to their processes and ensuring timeous delivery of promo and radio cue sheets, along with obtaining approval feedback for marketing communications.

    Workflow Scheduling and Administration

    Intern: International Programming

    Description

    • Reporting to the Channel Head, the key performance areas include but are not limited to:

    Research 

    • Researching potential international programming for eMedia channels and provide feedback to Channel Head.
    • View screeners as and when required, briefing Channel Head of programming of potential interest.
    • Liaising with potential and existing suppliers for information and screeners, providing feedback to Channel Head.
    • Assisting in the compilation and distribution of programming reports for the various channels.

    Inventory

    • Monitoring inventory (both series and movies) in terms of expiries, programme costs and maximising use of content and alerting Channel Head of potential problems.
    • Monitoring the inventory recon of all international programming received and licensed when necessary
    • Checking existing inventory for slot suitability and advising Channel Head of potential problems
    • Ensuring that any programming, scheduling and/or contractual errors or discrepancies loaded in the Broadcast Management System(s) are clearly communicated to the relevant department(s)

    Planning

    • Assisting with the preparation and maintenance of long-term and monthly schedules under supervision of the Channel Head this includes but is not limited to updating costs, transmission info, runs, expiries, synopses, cast, age classification and durations.
    • Assisting with compilation of monthly highlights for various channels.
    • Assisting other departments (particularly Marketing, Creative Services and Commercial Time Sales) on information regarding new international programming.

    Intern: Programme Coodinator

    Specific Tasks and Outcomes

    • Programming Contracts’ Administration and Coordination 
    • Verify licensing data on executed contracts and complete take-on forms to obtain appropriate exchange rates from the finance department.
    • Inputting contractual information in Broadcast Management System (BMS) and generate contracts summary reports for validation.
    • Liaising with Acquisitions and programme scheduling departments on maintaining contractual parameters for all programming (commissioned and acquired) and report on significant contract discrepancies.
    • Facilitating necessary contracts changes and or amendments and communicate them to all relevant departments.
    • Coordinating and corresponding with finance department to ensure that consistency and balance is maintained between the BMS and the finance system.
    • Communicate with programme suppliers by email and telephone to obtain programme related information, such as synopses and running orders and update BMS when needed.
    • Keep physical and electronic files up to date and readily available for internal users and auditors
    • Responsible for ongoing maintenance of up-to-date supplier database.
    • Communicate and confirm program airdates and airtimes with suppliers upon request.

    Monitoring and Support

    • Monitoring all international and local deliveries received and coordinate with Media Library and Transfers on discrepancies.
    • Viewing programs to ensure they adhere to contracted programme titles when necessary.
    • Providing programming updates and support to all relevant departments as needed, such as Programme schedulers, Media Library, Transfers and Online.

    Anchor ( JHB North)

    Description

    • The incumbent would be required to deliver on-air newscasts in an informed and professional manner. This includes writing and producing news stories, as well as conducting interviews, which are relevant to the eNuus audience.

    Writing, Production and Research

    • Translating English stories into Afrikaans and writing original Afrikaans news copy, adhering to the duration and the facts
    • Sending relevant visuals and soundbytes through to edit suites
    • Checking wire services and news feeds for breaking news
    • Assisting with news updates and checking accuracy
    • Researching and scripting interviews
    • Staying abreast of current affairs in order to be ready for breaking and    developing stories
    • Doing voice-overs when required

    Anchoring

    • Arriving at least 90 minutes before going on air in order to prepare and get make-up done

    • Preparing for and rehearsing Afrikaans news bulletins

    Editorial

    Video Editor (JHB North)

    Video Editing

    • Video edit both long and short form content for news and current affairs, according to a specific SOP, which includes ensuring there is run-in and run out on the final piece.

    Planning

    • Liaise with editorial team on the requirements/needs and plan creative edits when needed. 
    • Be able to work independently after being briefed by the editorial team.

    Technical Specs  

    • Make sure visuals are corrected/graded if necessary and possible and to the required standard.

    Audio

    • Recording and laying of audio / voice overs and sourcing sound effects and soundtrack when required.
    • Ensure audio is on the correct channels and at the correct levels and prep long form content for Audio Final Mix.

    Effects  

    • Add all necessary broadcast elements such as graphics, subtitles, blurs, voice alteration and other special effects when required.

    Archives 

    • Recall archive material and archive when required, work off dalet or transfers from hard-drive or camera cards.

    Quality Control

    • Liaise with the Editorial, Quality Control function and Master Control Room (MCR) team to make sure all video edited content is within broadcast specifications including durations of exported videos.

    Deployment

    • Work on or off site when required for outside broadcast or pre-recorded material
