    Deputy Head of School: Humanities and Social Sciences - Cape Town

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    Academic Leadership & Management

    • Develop and implement the strategic plan for the School in conjunction with the long-term vision of the Independent Institute of Education (IIE) Varsity College as a quality higher education provider.
    • Provide academic leadership for the undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing professional development (CPD) of the School.
    • Review and implement changes to the existing programmes curriculum.     
    • Develop new programmes in collaboration with The Central Academic Team Heads of Programme for accreditation and curriculum material development in the cognate area.
    • Manage and lead the interface with Independent Institute of Education (IIE) in the subject discipline within the School.
    • Develop and drive the implementation of relevant teaching and learning initiatives (i.e. blended learning) in the cognate area based on current industry and research trends.
    • Provide knowledge and expertise on an appropriate teaching model to provide optimal delivery of curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment.
    • Plan resource allocation for all aspects of running a successful programme e.g. Moot courts, Law Careers Fair, Programme Co-ordinators and training contracts.
    • Support and develop the national and campus academic teams in the delivery of the Teaching, Learning and Assessment strategies, e.g. Smart boards, Learning Management Systems (LMS) training and other relevant technology based applications.

    Senior Student Advisor (Distance) - Cape Town

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    Database Capturing & Integrity

    • Ensure all database (interest cards, telephonic enquiries, walk-ins) secured is captured accurately and in full on STASY.

    Consultations

    Marketing Administration

    Lecturer: School of Law - Pretoria

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Academic Department Administrative Support

    • Responsible for the day-to-day administrative support of the campus Academic department across all School/s and Programmes.
    • Compiles, manages and distributes academic reports as required by the campus Academic School/s.
    • Captures student notes in the academic system as and when required.
    • Collaborates with other members of the Academic team (and other departments when applicable) to prepare for and meet the requirements for the campus PULSE and Groups Internal Audits.
    • Provides academic and administrative support during the campus registration period, including calling for student retention initiatives.
    • Supports the Head: Academic with the Student Evaluation of Teaching (SETS) requirements.

     Independent Contractor (Lecturer) Administration Management

    • Responsible for day-to-day administrative management of the campus Lecturing (Independent Contractor) team within the relevant School/s.
    • Supports the Programme Manager/s in managing the Lecturers and addresses or directs their queries timeously and accurately.
    • Monitors the lecturer's administrative performance, for example: the timeous submission of timesheets and documentation aligned with audit requirements and company policy.
    • Captures information on the Direct Academic Student Engagement (DASE) tracker and ensures that this tracker is kept up-to-date and accurate at all times.
    • Manages lecturing loads by way of module allocations i.e Direct Academic Student Engagement tracking (DASE/non-DASE) to ensure the permissible maximum hours are adhered to and are not exceeded.
    • Manages and notifies the relevant lectures of any changes that may affect their designated programmes.
    • Collaborates with relevant parties (Head: Academic, Programme Managers and the Junior HR Officer: Academic) to advertise campus Lecturer vacancies.
    • Provides first line screening support for Lecturer applications and sets up interviews for shortlisted candidates.
    • Attends mock lectures where required as part of the candidate screening process.
    • Applies for Academic (Classification of Educational Subject Matter: CESM) approval on the HR & Payroll System to determine what module/s each Independent Contractor is approved to lecture on, and ensures that approvals are awarded by the Central Academic Team (CAT) prior to giving the Junior HR Officer: Academic the details to draw up the relevant Independent Contractor related Annexures.
    • Collaborates with the Junior HR Officer: Academic on the Lecturer appointment process to ensure that the process is streamlined, and all audit and policy/process requirements are met prior to any Independent Contractor Agreement being issued or work being offered or carried out.
    • Provides the Junior HR Officer: Academic with the relevant lecturing schedules needed to complete the Independent Contractor Agreements and associated Annexures.
    • First level approver for the Lecturer timesheet approval process on the HR & Payroll system.
    • Collaborates with the campus Capacity Planning and Timetabling Centre to fulfil the timesheet approval function and checks timeously in the HR & Payroll system on a monthly basis in accordance with the payroll deadlines to ensure that all timesheets are approved, and any queries are resolved before the timesheet cut off date.
    • Works with Academic Department in driving lecturer evaluations.
    • Keeps in constant communication with the Capacity Planning and Timetabling Centre to inform them of module allocation and Lecturer details so that they can set the relevant VCConnect email addresses and account details timeously.
    • Ensures that all new Lectures are invited to attend the semester Induction and Orientation sessions as part of their onboarding process.
    • Updates the campus tracker to identify Lecturer gaps and work with the Head: Academic to put recruitment plans in place to fill the identified gaps accordingly, and proactively identifies a pool of suitable Lecturer candidates across the relevant Programmes as part of an ongoing recruitment drive.

    Campus Synergy & General

    • Assists the Academic department with the co-ordination of academic workshops when required.
    • Assists in identifying at risk students and lecturers and directs academic related queries to the relevant Academic team member timeously.
    • Liaises with the Capacity Planning and Timetabling Centre and manages the Programme Managers class visit schedule on a regular basis.
    • Addresses queries with the relevant National office Academic Support team members, and rolls-out directives or projects as and when required.
    • Collaborates with all departments on campus to facilitate optimal performance within the portfolio or scope of duties.

    PR and Events Co-ordinator - Pretoria

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    Media Relations

    • Identifying, building and maintaining strong media relationships within the community and region in which the campus is located.

    Head: Academic Operations - Westville

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    Quality Assurance

    • Manages the academic delivery on campus in collaboration with the Head: Academic.
    • Oversees the implementation of academic and related policies in conjunction with the Campus Deputy Head: Academic.
    • Ensures compliance (policy and other) within all areas of academic operations.
    • Maintains and develops relationships with all stakeholders including students, parents, lecturers and other staff and ensures resolution of queries within a committed time frame.
    • Approves all departmental documentation distributed to student and external stakeholders in line with the approval process of the brand.

    Operational Programme Management

    • Works closely together with Head: Student Services and Head: Academic in all areas of responsibility to maintain open communication regarding programme delivery and the student and lecturer experience e.g. at risk meetings.
    • Highlights any challenges found in relation to programme material and assessments with the outcome of achieving an improved student and lecturer experience.
    • Ensures proper sign off of all students eligible for graduation in line with the required standards for the qualification.

    Student Support

    • Ensures the operational needs of a student are handled timeously and are responded to by the relevant Academic Operations staff in accordance with a student centred approach.
    • Represents the Academic Operations department on the VC Voice Committee.
    • Responsible for student retention in collaboration with the Head: Academic.

    Independent Contractor (Lecturer & Invigilator) Operational Support

    • Management of any liaison with the Academic team regarding any lecturer concerns which may arise from student consultations.
    • Ensures all lecturer requirements are met regarding the operational delivery of programmes in conjunction with the various Centres of Excellence.
    • Works closely with the Head: Academic in ensuring lecturer allocations are completed timeously so the timetabling process may begin in accordance with the timelines that support the timetabling project in line with programme start dates.

    Departmental Management

    • Manages operational reviews and guides the process of identifying and correcting areas of operational risk.
    • Co-ordinates The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE) requests, e.g. implementing a policy change.
    • Assists the Head: Academic in the compilation of the academic operations budget regarding allocation of groups in relation to campus targets and the accommodation schedule.
    • Responsible for campus compliance in respect of Group Internal Audits or any other audit which may present operational compliance and manages improvement plans.
    • Performs general management duties including managing staff performance, overtime, staff leave and staff morale etc.
    • Recruits, trains and develops specific skills required in the different Centres of Excellence and Student Reception.
    • Manages Academic Operations meetings including drawing up agendas and chairing the Academic Operations meetings.
    • Manages focus group sessions with the different centres where challenges and improvements on existing processes are discussed.
    • Responsible for the efficient running and service delivery of the various Centres of Excellence as well as to ensure that all student queries are resolved in a timeous and efficient manner.
    • Ensures that all policy updates are communicated to the Customer Relations Centre and that students are informed accordingly.
    • Responsible for providing training and onboarding of new and existing staff within the Centres of Excellence (where applicable).
    • Recruits staff for all Centres of Excellence (where applicable).
    • Implements strategies to accommodate growth, improved student experience and eliminate risk within Academic Operations.
    • Ensures compliance to The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) legislation relevant to the Academic Operations department.
    • Acts as an Investigating Officer in investigating any complaints of a disciplinary nature.
