    Policy Brief- Graphic Designers (design and layout)

    Job Advert Summary    

    • The HSRC policy briefs are documents that synthesize research and extract important information for policy processes.  Electronic versions are published on the HSRC website.
    • The potential target audiences include government officials, funders, development agencies, academics, diplomats, students, media and many others.
    • The publication is aimed at policy actors and not academics therefore the intention is to use plain, accessible English.
    • The HSRC seeks to procure a service provider for the design and layout of policy briefs on a delivery-based contract.

    Minimum Requirements    
    Key Requirements:

    • A relevant Diploma in Graphic Design and + 5 Years’ of graphic design and layout experience. Experienced in the use of the ADOBE Creative suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
    • Familiarity with the research process, scientific and social science terms, and scholarly writing will be advantageous.

    Assets Manager - Pretoria

    Job Advert Summary    

    • The Finance department delivers a total financial service to the HSRC. This entails debtors, creditors, cash management, assets including projects office and ensures that the HSRC complies with relevant legislation and accounting principles. The successful incumbent will report to the Finance Director.
    • The finance department of the Support Service division of the HSRC seeks to appoint a suitably qualified incumbent to fulfil the position of Asset Management Manager. The position will be based in the Pretoria office.

    Minimum Requirements    

    •  BCom (Accounting)
    •  5 – 8 years’ experience in asset management
    •  Good knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
    •  Knowledge of and experience in Norming assets management system/and ACCPAC.
    •  Excellent knowledge of excel and Microsoft word.
    •  Knowledge of Fixed assets management principles and procedures.
    •  Good interpersonal and communication skills.
    •  Completion of auditing articles will be an added advantage.
    •  Experience in fixed assets management.

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Maintenance and management of fixed and intangible asset registers.
    • Ensure asset data integrity, and verify for completeness and accuracy.
    •  Liase with IT and creditors regarding correct CAPEX documentation.
    •  Ensure tracking and management of asset activities from various units.
    •  Prepare monthly fixed assets reconciliations.
    • Update all acquisitions, disposals, movements and changes on the asset register.
    • Manage the insurance administration of the organization.
    • Management of fixed assets administrator and officers.
    • Administration of fixed assets movement.
    • Issue and control assets barcodes.
    • Updating the fixed assets system with the allocated barcodes
    • Ensure and manage fixed and intangible assets’ readiness for review and audit.
    • Daily /weekly clearing of the fixed asset clearing account.
    • Administration of the warranties.
    • Maintenance of the fixed assets warranty register.
    • Processing of the information on the Asset management system.
    • Manage and ensure that biannual fixed assets verification is conducted.
    • Participate and advice on fixed assets disposal
    • Perform annual assessment of useful lives on fixed assets.
    • Assist with the Preparation of annual and quarterly financial statements by preparing PPE note.

    Events Manager Cape Town/Pretoria/Durban

    Job Advert Summary    

    • The strategic vision of the Communications and Engagement Unit is aligned to the three-fold mandate of the Impact Centre, which is to work towards the relevance, visibility and impact of HSRC research as noted in the HSRC Impact Strategy. In contributing to this mandate, the unit aims to enhance awareness and appreciation of the HSRC brand (research and human capital) among stakeholders, research users and consumers, internally and externally. The unit’s activities include executing all internal and external communications to enhance the reach and possible uptake of HSRC research. The unit also maintains the institution’s brand quality and reputation.

    The communication and engagement unit seeks to appoint an Event Manager on a permanent contract.

    Minimum Requirements    
    Key Requirements:

    • An honours degree (NQF 8) in Events Management or Business Management or Social Sciences;
    • 10 years minimum experience in Events Management;
    • 5-year minimum experience in the Science and Innovation landscape
    • Experience in managing between 2-5 academic conferences – managing panels, speakers, travel and accommodation
    • Excellent writing and communication skills;
    • High level of computer literacy, especially in the MS office Suite-MS Word, Excel, Access and Project and database management;
    • A masters degree will be an added advantage.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Manage the engagements sub-unit;

    Drive high level engagements for the organisation;

    Experience in event planning, design and implementation;

    Manage a schedule of all planned events for the organisation;

    Ability to quickly build, manage and sustain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders;

    Conduct database research to ensure that the right people are invited to key organisational events;

    Provide feedback and periodic reports to stakeholders;

    Propose ideas to improve provided services and event quality;

    Organize facilities / online systems and manage all events details such as catering, transportation, location, invitee list, special guests, equipment, promotional material etc;

    Ensure compliance with all policies;

    Specify staff requirements and coordinate their activities;

    High level of diplomacy skills and the ability to balance competing interests and manage multiple stakeholders with complex and competing objectives;

    Proactively handle any emerging issues and problems on the day of the event;

    Conduct pre- and post – event evaluations and report on outcomes;

    Database management.
