    Experimental Chemist

    Minimum Requirements

    Minimum Education:

    • NQF 6 N.Dip. in Chemistry or Natural Sciences
    • Registration as a Candidate in a Professional registration

    Desired Education:

    • NQF 7 BSc / BTech. / Chemistry, Water Care and Chemical Engineering)
    • Two years’ experience in the drinking water treatment laboratory.
    • Code B driver’s license with the driving skills to pass Rand Water’s driver competency test.

    Primary Duties

    •  Perform specialized or complex analytical analysis on water samples and solid samples
    •  Chemical and physical analyses for routine, ad-hoc, short-term and long-term projects.
    • Planning and execution of the technical evaluation of water treatment chemicals following established procedures
    • Compiling chemical evaluation reports
    • Assisting with feasibility studies for new research projects
    •  Implementation and management of the quality systems in the laboratory
    •  Identification, investigation, documentation, and reporting of non-conforming results.
    • Approval of results on the identified databases.
    •  Preparation of chemicals in accordance with the procedures.
    •  Maintenance /calibration of the lab of equipment and instrumentation
    •  Training of staff to ensure competency on methods
    •  Updating of the laboratory methods in accordance with the QMS requirements
    •  Validation and/ verification of laboratory methods and instruments
    •  Implementation of the ISO 17025 accreditation system
    • Adherence to legal and Rand Water safety, health environment and quality standards relating to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 18001.

    Knowledge

    • Knowledge of drinking water or wastewater treatment.
    • Knowledge of drinking water analysis.
    • Knowledge of ISO 17025, ISO 19001, and 14OO1
    • Knowledge of LIMS
    • Familiarity with a water-related research and development environment.
    • Working Knowledge of Statistics
    • Good knowledge of laboratory

    Experimental Scientist

    Minimum Requirements

    Minimum Education:

    • NQF 9 MSc / M-Tec in Chemistry or Natural Sciences
    • Registration with recognized professional body

    Desired Education:

    • NQF 10 PhD in Chemistry or Natural Sciences
    • Minimum four(4) years’ experience in the water related research and development environment.
    • Code B driver’s license with the driving skills to pass Rand Water’s driver competency test.

    Primary Duties

    • Plan and execute the evaluation water treatment chemicals and online instruments
    •  Coordinate all the technical work in the laboratory and the pilot plant
    •  Keep up to date with technical developments, to improve efficiency
    •  Oversee, projects, reports and documentation
    • Oversee calibration and maintenance of all laboratory handheld and pilot plant instruments
    • Investigate, and or assist in water treatment process optimization and implementation initiatives
    • Increase the knowledge base on water treatment chemicals by conducting and reporting on empirical research and projects
    • Provide input for strategy and policy documents on water treatment practices
    • Developing research proposals in conjunction with other research agencies and institutions
    • Perform research in collaboration with external organisations.
    • Assist with the training of staff.
    • Ensure that work is performed in an environment that conforms to all aspects of the relevant SHE acts and that all systems comply in terms of ISO systems

    Knowledge

    • Thorough knowledge of the water supply cycle and water purification processes
    • Water quality data interpretation.
    • A proper knowledge of business ethics relating to handling of confidential correspondence
    • Proven record of successful applicable technical investigations
    • Input on design of water purification plants
    • Statistical analysis

    Driver

    Minimum Requirements

    • Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate)
    • 3years relevant driving experience 
    • Valid code EB drivers license with ability to pass Rand waters K53 test
    • Must be in possession of Public Drivers Permit

    Primary Duties

    • To collect and deliver items/equipment’s safely.
    • Ensure that petty cash is used for what is required.
    • When transporting staff, ensure that staff arrive on time.
    • Ensure vehicles are clean and in good working condition at all times. Defects/incidents must be reported immediately.

    Knowledge

    • Knowledge of OHS Act.
    • Communication skills (Verbal and written)
    • Knowledge of road traffic rules.
