    Scholarly Communication Librarian (Job Level 9)

    Duties

    • Administration of digital repository platforms;
    • Administration of the e-journal management platform;

    Job Requirements

    Faculty Librarian: Economic and Management Sciences (Job Level 8)

    Duties        

    • Strategic planning and management and the implementation of strategic goals for the provision of information services and research support to the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences;
    • Information services provision and research support to all clients of the Library, with specialisation in Economic and Management Sciences;

    Medical Officer

    Duties  

    • Identifying children in the KDH and TBH casualty / outpatient areas who may be eligible for trial enrolment;
    • Supervising and undertaking the informed consent process prior to enrolment;
    • Performing and interpreting the lung ultrasound study;
    • Collecting clinical, laboratory and radiology data from the routine databases at the hospitals in order to complete the study case report forms;
    • Performing systematic and thorough clinical examinations of enrolled children;
    • Assisting the study nurse with sample collection (blood, respiratory samples and urine);
    • Directly entering data into a REDCap database;
    • Attending and participating at study meetings, and communicating efficiently with the study PI;
    • Supervising the study team on site and coordinating study participant follow-up visits;
    • Working with a multidisciplinary team -  including data, regulatory, laboratory, recruiting and clinical staff - as well as with the HIV and TB programme and other stakeholders;
    • Ensuring that study data is meticulously and accurately documented;

    Job Requirements  

    • MBChB;
    • Current HPCSA registration;
    • At least one year's clinical work experience post-internship in paediatrics or emergency medicine (with some specific emergency paediatric experience);
    • Experience with working in clinical care at Khayelitsha Hospital;
    • Some experience/expertise with performing lung ultrasounds;
    • Strong organisational skills;
    • Good written and verbal communication skills in English;
    • Computer literacy in MS Office;
    • The ability to develop and maintain sound work relations among project staff;
    • A valid code EB driver's licence and own transport;
    • Willingness to work at both KDH and TBH, and to travel independently between the two facilities;

    Medical Technologist

    Duties

    • Playing a significant role in ensuring that Mycobacteriun tuberculosis cultures and their associated diagnostic data are directed to the respective studies in a timely manner;
    • Assisting with identifying sputum sediments, inoculation of study MGITs, barcoding of study MGITs, database registration, monitoring of study-specific MGIT samples, and transport of sampls from the NHLS Greenpoint to Stellenbosch University;
    • Assisting with routine diagnostic assays for the NHLS.

    Job Requirements

    • HSPCA registration as a Medical Technologist (MT);
    • Experience in the field of Tuberculosis (working under BSL2+/ BSL-3 conditions);

    Shift Leader

    Duties    

    • Managing your security shift staff with regards to time and attendance, patrols, performance and adhering to security protocols;
    • Knowledge of performance appraisals and conducting performance appraisals of your subordinates as per Stellenbosch University's performance management protocols;
    • Managing, overseeing and actively participating in security patrolling by motor vehicle, motorcycle  and on foot;
    • Managing and overseeing the proactive identification, investigation, follow-up and record-keeping of high risk circumstances that can jeopardise the safety of the University's property and community;
    • Managing and overseeing the optimal utilisation of the SU's security technologies such as  alarms, CCTV systems, patrol monitoring systems and camera monitoring. Must have an in-depth knowledge of all systems within the Operational Centre;

    • Acting as enquiry and reference point for Stellenbosch University during patrols on campus;
    • Availability to work shifts as well as overtime and standby duties as required by the University's security operations;
    • Supporting and assisting Campus Security staff with conducting fire demonstrations and safety  talks to members of the campus community;
    • Managing, overseeing and ensuring compliance to all SU contract security provisions as per Service Level Agreements with appointed contracted security service providers;

    • Excellent verbal communication skills in at least Afrikaans or English;

    Patrol Leader: Systems

    Duties

    • Acting as enquiry and reference point for Stellenbosch University (SU) during duties in the Operational Centre and patrols on campus;
    • Providing timeous reaction for standby duty where emergency services are deployed on campus;
    • Handling telephonic reports and enquiries;
    • Monitoring radio communication in use by the University, and dispatching officers accordingly;
    • Receiving all reports and recording these onto the electronic database;
    • Monitoring the WhatsApp application and responding as quickly as possible;
    • Monitoring CCTV cameras in use by the University;
    • Monitoring the alarm system in use by the University;
    • Dispatching officers to attend to alarm activations and emergency situations on campus;
    • Serving as contact and reference point wherever the University community requires support or emergency services;
    • Assisting where client system fire demonstrations and safety talks are held;
    • Proactively patrolling by motor, bicycle, and on foot (from time to time);
    • Proactively identifying, investigating, following up and record keeping of high risk circumstances that can jeopardise the safety of Stellenbosch University property and community;
    • Acting and / or relieving as Shift Leader when required.  

    Job Requirements    

    • A Senior Certificate (Grade 12), or equivalent qualification;
    • Valid registration with PSIRA;
    • Grade A or B security training;
    • Events registered in terms of PSIRA;
    • Four or more years' proven security and control room experience;
    • Excellent verbal communication skills;
    • Contactable work related references;
    • Computer literacy, with proficiency in MS Outlook, Word and Excel;

    Administrative Officer

    Duties

    • Assisting in following up unregistered students to ensure that they are re-registered;
    • Loading of marks for undergraduate and postgraduate modules; 
    • Requesting changes to student records; 
    • Ensuring that assessments are timeously scheduled according to standard operating procedures;
    • Facilitating leave of absence (LOA) applications for undergraduate and postgraduate students;
    • Facilitating the discontinuation, interruption or re-admission of studies process and ensuring that it is communicated to all relevant stakeholders;

    • Uploading and downloading learning material on the University's systems / providing support to students and lecturers;
    • Scheduling meetings, departmental diaries, managing invitees, preparing the agenda, minute taking, and distributing minutes and action points;
    • Providing general office support to the Department, and handling electronic communication and/or telephone calls;
    • Assisting with the dissemination of relevant information to students / stakeholders;
    • Facilitating travel and accommodation arrangements of academic staff;
    • Providing administrative support within the Department as directed by the Head of the Department;  
    • Processing of University access cards and access control; 
    • Logging maintenance calls if and when required; 
    • Facilitating and coordinating visitor administration, which includes arranging for parking and receiving visitors; 
    • Facilitating marketing material, brochures, flyers and promotional items through the Faculty's Marketing and Communication Division; 
    • Assisting with obtaining copyright permissions for articles to be used by facilitators;
    • Coordinating student seating and workstation allocations;
    • Assisting with the onboarding of new staff and scheduling training and development interventions on request of the Head of the Department;
    • Assisting with the processing of D20 and/or ad hoc requisitions; 
    • Providing administrative support for fixed-term contract appointments. 

    Job Requirements   

    • Higher certificate in office administration (NQF 5) or similar;
    • Up to two years' experience in general office administration.
    • Knowledge of intermediate clerical, operational or customer service skills acquired through education, experience, or on the job training;
    • Basic knowledge of and skill in Microsoft Office software, video conferencing, as well as cloud-based data access and sharing software.
