Medical Technologist at Stellenbosch University

Duties

• Playing a significant role in ensuring that Mycobacteriun tuberculosis cultures and their associated diagnostic data are directed to the respective studies in a timely manner;
• Assisting with identifying sputum sediments, inoculation of study MGITs, barcoding of study MGITs, database registration, monitoring of study-specific MGIT samples, and transport of sampls from the NHLS Greenpoint to Stellenbosch University;
• Assisting with routine diagnostic assays for the NHLS.

Job Requirements

• HSPCA registration as a Medical Technologist (MT);
• Experience in the field of Tuberculosis (working under BSL2+/ BSL-3 conditions);
• Computer literate, including in Office 365 applications;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Recommendation        

• A track record in undertaking research; or
• Experience in next-generation sequencing methods, or
• Experience in molecular biology methods.
