Requirements:

• A National Diploma or Degree in Electronic or Electrical (light current) or IT Engineering, or relevant comparable qualification, with a minimum of three years post qualification experience.
• Competency in electronic maintenance, diagnostics and repairs with proven faultfinding capabilities.
• Preferably have experience in VSAT satellite systems and microwave systems, IT network management and support (managing a computer network with LINUX servers and routers), HF and VHF 2-way radio equipment and operation, telephone systems (PABX's and VOIP), PC's, fire detection systems, GPS's, general electronic equipment repair.
• The incumbent has to be competent in the use of an oscilloscope, spectrum analyser and other relevant measuring equipment; and be familiar with good workshop practices, correct use of basic workshop tools and an understanding of current work, health and safety policies.
• The incumbent has to be able to work independently with minimal support under
• extreme pressure and without supervision.
• The incumbent must be computer literate, have good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a team.

Duties:

• The incumbent will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, fault-finding on and repairs of all the communication services and equipment of our Antarctic Base including the satellite, radio, IT, GPS, alarm and telephone systems.
• Operate cargo handling equipment.
• The incumbent will report to the base engineer and will be part of the technical team, led by the base engineer that has to perform any additional base related technical functions.
• Prepare monthly and annual reports, do stock-takes to order spares and equipment and do other common “non-technical” duties performed by expedition members.

Requirements:

• A National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant comparable qualification, with a minimum of five (5) years post years post qualification experience.
• Competent in mechanical plant maintenance, diagnostics and repairs with proven fault-finding capabilities.
• Preferably have hands-on experience in facility management.
• The incumbent has to be familiar with good workshop practices, correct use of basic workshop tools and an understanding of current work, health and safety policies.
• It would be an advantage if there is experience on earthmoving and material handling equipment, with maintenance management plans as well as all the services that would be found in facilities like hotels or hospitals.
• The incumbent must be computer literate, have good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a team.

Duties:

• The incumbent will be responsible for the maintenance, faultfinding on and repairs of the mechanical and civil services and equipment of our Antarctic Base including the power generators, vehicles, air-conditioning system, refrigeration, water reticulation and waste water systems.
• Operate Caterpillar machines and cargo handling equipment.
• The incumbent will have two diesel mechanics reporting to him and as a team have to perform any additional base related mechanical and civil functions.
• And also, be part of a technical team, led by a technical team manager that has to perform any additional base related technical functions.
• Prepare of monthly and annual reports, do stock-takes to order spares and equipment and do other common “non-technical” duties performed by expedition members.
• The incumbent could be tasked to lead and manage the whole technical group at the base.

Requirements:

• Must be in possession of a trade certification or a National Diploma or Degree in Instrumentation/Mechatronics/Electrical Engineering (Light Current) or relevant comparable qualification, with a minimum of three (3) years relevant post trade/qualification experience.

• Experience in industrial instrumentation and electrical and electronic systems in terms of design and fault finding.

Duties:

• The incumbent will be responsible for providing maintenance, fault-finding and repairs of the instrumentation and equipment at SANAE IV facility in Antarctica.
• Must ensure the efficient serviceability and operation of the instrumentation and equipment.
• Inspect, tests and repairs to instruments and systems used to indicate, record, and control processes and equipment.
• Test the accuracy of flowmeters, pressure gauges, temperature indicators, controllers and other recording, indicating or controlling instruments.
• Ensure the serviceability and operation of all additional base related technical systems and equipment.
• Assist the team in repairing and fixing breakdowns on infrastructure, equipment and vehicles.
• Conduct tasks related to general maintenance and operations.
• Perform daily routine checks and standard maintenance on the systems and equipment.
• Prepare monthly reports on all work performed, conditions of instrumentation and equipment, and spares utilised or required.
• Prepare schematic drawings, sketches, and reports to reflect changes or alterations made in instruments, circuits, and systems.
• Record calibrations made, parts and components used, and inventory of parts on hand.
• Conformance with environmental and safety requirements.
• Conduct safety inspections.
