    Housekeeping Manager (post level 12)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Manage cleaning staff and housekeeping processes in appointed UFS accommodation categories.
    • Administer and manage the supplies and apparatus in appointed accommodation categories.
    • Report and follow up on maintenance requests in appointed accommodation categories.
    • Manage and perform tasks with regard to conferences at a basic level, where applicable. This entails the cleaning and making of beds in good time.
    • Fill in time registers and leave application forms of cleaning staff.
    • Maintain good work discipline among cleaning staff by means of the appropriate corrective measures.
    • Carry out inspections to ensure a high standard of hygiene.
    • Perform any ad hoc tasks concerning the cleanliness and neatness of UFS residences.

    Inherent requirements:

    • Grade 12 or National Vocational Certificate on NQF level 4. 
    • A minimum of one (1) year relevant working experience relating to the duties and responsibilities.

    Recommendations:

    • A minimum of two (2) years' experience in a colour code cleaning system.
    • A minimum of two (2) years' experience in the management of cleaning products and apparatus as prescribed by a colour code cleaning system.

    Senior Lecturer: Department of Sociology (Job ID: 5817)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Teach, assess, and coordinate modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Sociology.
    • Provide study guidance and supervision to postgraduate students.
    • Contribute to programme development and curriculum review within the Department and the Faculty of Humanities.

    Inherent Job Requirements:

    Senior Lecturer

    • A PhD in Sociology on NQF Level 10.
    • A minimum of five years (5) lecturing experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at the university level.
    • Proven experience in the presentation of papers at national scholarly conferences.
    • An NRF rating or equivalent or demonstrate potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
    • Proven experience in the supervision of graduated master’s students.
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in accredited national and/or international journals.
    • Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society, committee, or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.

    Recommendations:

    • A strong teaching focus on social theory and social research methods.
    • Research expertise and teaching experience in one or more of our research clusters: 
    • decolonisation, race, ethnicity, and transformation; 
    • gender, health, and labour; 
    • local and participatory governance; 
    • migration, environment, and population studies;

    Programme Director (Contract appointment: 5 years) (Job ID: 5814)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • In consultation with the Academic Head of Department (AHD); undertake the following:
    • Manage the curriculum processes of the department.
    • Develop new learning programmes in consultation with stakeholders.
    • Ensure frequent and continuous development and management of the operational plan of the programme.
    • Provide general leadership in the programme and ensure academic coherence across all various modules of the programme.

    • A full-time, permanent member of the academic staff of the Department of Soil, Crop and Climate Sciences at the University of the Free State.
