    MMU Assistant - Tshipi

    Qualifications

    • Grade 12 with Maths

    Advantageous Requirements:

    • Code 08 / Code B Licence
    • Magazine Master Ticket
    • Blasting assistant certificate (MQA)
    • Stemming Loader

    Experience

    • Previous experience in blasting / mining environment
    • 2 years blasting assistant experience

    Duties

    • Risk assessment and Safe work declarations to be done with the blaster at the place of work before entering workplace as per client requirements
    • Assisting the blaster for preparing the blast / charge-up area by meeting all the statutory, legal, client and BME requirements/standards/prescriptions
    • Together with the Blaster, inspects the site to determine the target block and to plan the blasting process
    • Marks off the working area by erecting the prescribed barricading material as prescribed by the client
    • Required to map the holes to ensure that all the required holes correctly placed
    • Required to measure and check the depth of the holes, and to ensure that they are all correctly drilled within the prescribed parameters
    • In the event of detecting any deviations from prescriptions, responsible for behaving assertively and taking the necessary steps to rectify matters, e.g., by interacting and communicating to mine staff, drill contractor or the Foreman
    • On instruction from the Blaster, required to collect the correct accessories to carry out the blasting assignment successfully
    • Responsible to place all detonators and boosters at the collar of the hole to prepare for priming of the blast holes as per the blast plan issued by the mine
    • Responsible for priming the holes by carefully inserting detonators into boosters, attaching weigh-down material to the primer, and lower this primer in the hole under the supervision of the blaster

    MMU Operator - Tshipi

    Qualifications

    • Grade 12
    • EC Licence
    • Dangerous Goods and Passengers permit (DGP)

    Advantageous Requirements:

    Experience

    • 3 years Truck Driving experience (preferably in mining environment)
    • 5 years’ experience in driving heavy duty vehicles (EC)  

    Duties

    • Conducts the prescribed pre-use inspections and completion of the checklist prior to use of the truck
    • Ensures that immediate corrections or repairs must be brought about before driving off when any problems in the red category are detected
    • Makes the necessary corrections or repairs in the event of detecting any problems in the blue category, on site, if possible, otherwise to report this for correction within 24 hours
    • Signs the checklist and ensures that it is also signed by the Foreman and the mechanic
    • Calibrates the instrumentation on the truck plant to ensure that all metrics remain correct or after major repairs were done on the vehicle, monthly
    • Cleans the vehicle on an ongoing basis so that it is presentable in the eye of the public and takes personal pride in it
    • Completes for Truck Performance administration daily
    • Greases, captures and signs off the truck on a weekly basis
    • Calibrates the sample required scale daily
    • Drives the truck safely and responsibly in all weather conditions and on all road surface conditions when picking up or delivering product to the blasting site, responsible for
    • Ensures that all the prescribed legal paperwork is in truck (e.g., copies of manufacturing permits, CTP, TTP, as stated in work instruction)
    • Supervises the loading of the truck at the silos with the required product by the Truck Assistant
    • Ensures that all SHERQ requirements are met
    • Receives the charging instruction from the Blaster
    • Carries out an inspection of all the holes and measures and records them to ensure that they are drilled to the correct depth
    • Reports any out of spec holes to blaster
    • Performs calculations to determine the correct mass of product to be loaded in each hole and reports any discrepancies to with the Foreman
    • Inspects all the pumps and settings prior to commencing with the pumping process
    • Takes a sample of the product and then analyses it to assess the product density prior to commencing the charging process
    • Reports any out of spec analyses to the Foreman and will only start the pumping when completely satisfied with the product quality

    • Engages the pumping process and loading the holes according to the design specs while ensuring all prescribed SHERQ requirements are met

    • Performs general administrative duties such as correct completion of loading sheets, pre-use checklists, as per BME standards.
    • Complete grease schedules, calibrations and truck performance.
    • Supervises the work of the Truck Assistant

    Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Duties

    • Ensures that the correct accessories necessary to carry out the blasting assignment are drawn from the magazine once the blast design / accessory order is received where applicable.
    • Ensures that inspections of the vehicle are completed and that the pre-use checklist filled in   prior to the use of the accessory transport vehicle.
    • Ensures that all the tasks necessary for preparing the blast are carried out in accordance with statutory/legal/BME requirements, including priming, pumping and stemming, timing design, as well as all the SHERQ requirements.
    • Approves the blasting after ensuring the safety of the area and that the all the required pre-blast procedures have been correctly carried out.
    • Ensures that the required inspections are made.
    • Responsible for declaring the area safe after the blast.
    • Ensures that the necessary administration and reporting are completed.
    • Supervises the work of Blasting Assistants and mixer-placer trucks.
    • Deals with unacceptable behaviour.
    • Escalates serious offences to Foreman. 
    • Allocates relevant housekeeping tasks to the blasting team and ensures completion thereon.

    • To undertake the development and testing of blasting optimisation technology in order to provide the highest quality blasting products and services available
    • To conduct and manage blasting risk assessments, blast optimisation designs, blast performance results and specialist blast designs and numerical modelling for critical blasts and submit relevant reports
