    Accountant-Soweto, South Africa

    JOB PURPOSE

    To maintain complete and accurate records of the organization’s financial transactions through use of appropriate information technology and engagement of competent staff.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensure proper books of accounts are maintained and statutory and Management accounts prepared accurately and submitted on time.
    • Convene a fortnightly credit committee meeting, and ensure debtors are managed effectively.
    • Ensure daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports are prepared, submitted.
    • Prepare and co-ordinate with Finance Manager on all tax computations and remittances for the company.
    • Safeguard the company’s assets and resources against loss, theft and ineffective use by installing and maintaining appropriate internal control systems.
    • Report exceptions in the quarterly self-audit report.
    • Ensure liaison with external auditors and statutory bodies and ensure compliance as required by the Organization’s Rules.
    • Ensure compliance with finance and accounting standards and regulations.
    • Participate in direct the preparation of budgets and forecasts and report performance against actual.
    • Ensure monthly accounts are signed off by the 9th of every month.
    • Ensure efficient and effective management of the company’s business cycle in relation to timely debt collection, timely processing of payments for goods and services rendered.
    • Attend board meetings of the company and present the financial statements as and when required.
    • Attend to any other duty that may be assigned from time to time.

    EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS.

    • Bachelors’ of Commerce (Finance/Accounting Option) or equivalent.
    • Minimum qualification of at least CPA II
    • Experience in Cost Accounting will be an added advantage.

    EXPERIENCE

    Minimum of at least two years in a similar position with working experience of; preparation of financial statements, use of comprehensive electronic accounting systems, use of electronic financial analysis & reporting tools and human resource management.

    Programme Specialist

    The Programmes Specialist for ARA is responsible for leading ARA’s response to regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development through the identification, planning and implementation of  ARA’s priority activities in the region.

    Tasks And Responsibilities

    Coordinate the preparation, submission, revision and follow-up of the Programme of Work and Budget, and the monitoring and provision of information on the implementation of the Programs:

    • Assemble and synthesize data from corporate data bases to facilitate the analysis of programmes, projects or activities, and to draft periodic or ad hoc management reports;
    • Monitor projects and ensure the maintenance and retrieval of programming reference material, documentation, data and information;
    • Consolidate and monitor various reports on human resources planning and expenditures, the use of non-staff
    • Screen incoming correspondence to identify issues requiring further attention and draft related correspondence;
    • Support knowledge building and knowledge sharing across the office through training of staff and briefing of budget holders on administrative/budgetary/planning/programming/financial procedures and processes;
    • Review current processes and make recommendations to improve programme/projects administration procedures;
    • Perform other functions as required.

    Minimum Requirements

    • University degree in Management, Accountings, Finances, Social Sciences, Sociology, Education or related fields;
    • Two (2) years of experience in administrative/ financial/ planning/ programming activities for both Regular Programme and Projects
    • Working knowledge of English

    Technical/Functional Skills

    • Work experience in more than one location or area of work
    • Extent and relevance of experience in budgeting and planning
    • Knowledge of good ebglish is considered an asset
    • Excellent knowledge of the MS Office applications, Internet and office technology equipment
