    Section Manager Engineering

    Job Description

    • South Deep Mine is a deep level underground operation, and the Section Manager Engineering is accountable for the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the trackless mobile machinery ore handling infrastructure and, associated workshop infrastructure and secondary equipment. 
    • The Section Manager’s core accountability further extends to operational integration and optimisation within a continuous operational cycle for the trackless mobile machinery department, including but not limited to  underground and surface mobile machinery, dedicated underground and surface areas, workshops, various secondary equipment as well as tools and equipment in the production section.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Relevant Engineering Degree or Diploma
    • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) – Mines and Works
    • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in an underground trackless mobile machinery environment with at least 5 years at middle management level
    • Being declared medically fit for the role & environment as determined by a risk based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a heat tolerance Screening Test

    Key Competencies:

    • Advanced safety leadership capability with proven safety campaign delivery record
    • Accomplished team and people leader with advanced inter and intra-team collaboration and, sound spoken and written English communication skills
    • Ability to cope with ambiguity with high personal resilience and change adaptability
    • Established problem-solving skills with appreciation for business optimisation methodologies e.g., lean-six sigma, etc.
    • Advanced understanding of operational working culture and dealing with operational delivery challenges
    • Advanced practical mining experience with expertise in operational production planning and work scheduling
    • Knowledge of mobile machinery, safety system on trackless machines, PDS systems, underground workshops and infrastructure and accompanying legal appointment

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Actively participate in and lead interventions aimed at contributing to a culture of Zero Harm by adhering to and ensuring compliance with specified legislation, SHE policies and procedures and operational standards, instructions, and governance requirements
    • Actively engage in and demonstrate Visible Felt Leadership aligned to operational SHE standards, operational campaigns and instructions
    • Schedule and conduct regular operational safety, safe work practice and operational delivery inspections ensuring appropriate remediation interventions are executed
    • Remain abreast of relevant changes in applicable legislation, regulations, etc. and ensure that operational standards, policies and procedures are appropriately updated and shared within peer groups
    • Maintain effective people management practices by ensuring that team roles and competencies are clearly defined, and that effective team delivery is maintained
    • Manage relationships with key internal Business Partners and external Stakeholders, by ensuring broad accountability is maintained against operational delivery, service level, commercial, community and ethical standards
    • Manage the short, medium, and long-term operations and planned maintenance regime for the trackless mobile machinery. and systems in terms of acquisitions, commissioning, operations, maintenance, and decommissioning to optimise operational efficiency and effectiveness
    • Define and manage equipment life cycle costing and define optimal maintenance practices or tactics for each asset/machine in area of accountability
    • Maintain and review standards, procedures, codes of practices and or relevant policies
    • Investigate and analyse operational delivery effectiveness with a view to recommending and developing collaborative and innovative solutions to optimise the interfaces between teams, processes and systems
    • Contribute toward the development and execution of operational improvement interventions and related projects
    • Manage and monitor operational financial budgeting and management

    Underground Electrician

    Job Description

    • The underground Electrician is accountable for the installation and maintenance on Rail Bound Equipment (RBE), related underground infrastructure and fixed plant equipment.  The incumbent delivers scheduled and unscheduled tasks as assigned to ensure safe and optimal Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).  A core accountability of the role is to maintain the highest possible safety standards in area of operation and influence.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent
    • Electrical trade certificate
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an underground electrician
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience working on medium voltage (MV) networks/systems including substations, switchgear, mini substations
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

    Key Competencies:

    • Proven track record in safety leadership
    • Proven interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills
    • Independent, proactive thinker and ability to schedule and deliver work within tight deadlines
    • Experience in working with low and medium voltage systems
    • Demonstrated experience with Maxus controller system
    • Demonstrated experience with legal inspections of electrical installations
    • Proven track record of production achievements
    • Be computer literate in MS Office

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Ensure health and safety of self and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in all planning and execution of maintenance activities
    • Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act regulations, and Company standards
    • Contribute to a culture of zero harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down by legislation, health, safety, environmental, security policies, and procedures, and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion
    • Conduct maintenance activities on horizontal equipment includes new era locomotives, skid steer loaders, tip and box front power packs, bulk air cooler electrical systems, electrical panels on the dirty water dams and pumping assemblies, cabling network, mini sub, lighting transformer, gully rigs, gully box and starter boxes
    • Promote and develop team work to become an affective team member
    • Ensure that condition monitoring of equipment, scheduled and planned maintenance are conducted effectively
    • Timely response to breakdown management, conduct appropriate root cause analysis and diagnosis
    • Conduct expansions and construction of new equipment or installations as per works order
    • Identify spares requirements and book against the maintenance defect log system
    • Work overtime, standby and be available for callouts should the need arise

    Planned Maintenance Officer

    Job Description

    • The Maintenance Planner will be responsible for the detailed development and monitoring of all planned maintenance schedules and associated activities.  The incumbent will draw off an established track record of technical knowledge, intricate work management and strong collaborative delivery skills to conduct root cause analyses, define appropriate remedial actions and to report on efficacy of assigned Planned Maintenance delivery and performance

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent
    • Appropriate Trade Certificate
    • At least 5 years’ experience as an artisan and a minimum of 3 years’ experience as an engineering maintenance planner
    • Advanced SAP Planned Maintenance or related Maintenance Management Systems Capability
    • Certified in either Maintenance Management, Advanced Maintenance Planning, RCA’s, RCM’s and/or Maintenance Planning
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

    Key Competencies:

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Perform inspections in accordance with the MHSA regulations and company standards
    • Contribute to the culture of Zero Harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down by legislation health safety environmental security policies and procedures and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion
    • Ensure that all plant, equipment, etc. in relevant area of responsibility is registered on SAP PM and that scheduled maintenance regimes are implemented for all equipment
    • Prepare planned maintenance schedules for all equipment according to technical specifications and organizational standards
    • Coordinate efforts in the maintenance-engineering department to ensure availability of all required resources (Equipment, People, Spares and Special tools) to optimize the timing and duration for the maintenance events
    • Continuously monitor trends in equipment failure/maintenance and advise the Unit Manager Engineering, Engineering Overseer and Engineering Foreman
