    Fleet Planner

    Job Purpose

    To execute the fleet planning activities in the project and to manage / be part of the task’s execution within the Fleet Support Centre, looking for the improvement of the reliability of the fleet by preparing the maintenance plans of the fleet to ensure preventive maintenance visits are performed on time and as per the defined  maintenance regime.

    Minimum Requirements

    • BSc or BEng Degree  in Industrial or Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 2 years relevant working experience in the rail industry.
    • BTech or Advanced Diploma in Industrial or Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 3 years  relevant working experience in the rail industry.
    • Prognostic Tools (Train Tracer CFM, Health Hub). 
    • Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Word) and SAP.
    • Rail safety and railways standards knowledge advantageous.

    Main Responsibilities

    • Providing up to date information on fleet status to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Ensuring an effective maintenance plan is developed and managed on a day-to-day basis in accordance to the defined maintenance regime.
    • Supporting the Depots and Fleet Support Centre with all aspects of the maintenance fleet planning.
    • Communicating fleet availability, performance and the 12 months sliding maintenance plan to all internal stakeholders.
    • Bringing into default planning items special request coming from all project team and scheduling them using SAP system.
    • Creating and releasing of notifications and service orders related to corrective or preventive activities, if required.
    • Interfacing with Fleet Support Centre (Engineering) Data Analysts with respect to the health and availability of the fleet.
    • Communicating to the supply chain, industrial team and interested parties the maintenance forecast in advance for them to  prepare and organize preventative maintenance support activities. 
    • Creation and maintenance of measuring points, maintenance plans, maintenance Items, including scheduling of maintenance plans.
    • Ensuring alignment of maintenance planning strategy with parts management strategy for efficient maintenance visits.
    • Auditing of Maintenance Planning Master Data to ensure all fleet has the required master data to carry out maintenance planning and organize and manage fleet  maintenance data logs.
    • Managing all fleet Planning activities and providing associated KPI’s.
    • Following up and monitoring the on-time execution, the data delivery and raise alerts to the customer and the business.

    Maintenance Technician - Pretoria

    Job Purpose

    To provide technical support to the customer during commercial service, during preventive and corrective maintenance before and after warranty.

    Job Requirements

    • The job involves frequent mobility, with work in several depots, and at times on the train corridors.
    • To carry out technical support and maintenance on 24/7 shift & on-call basis (day, night, weekends).

    Minimum Requirements

    • National Diploma (S4) qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.

    Main Responsibilities

    • Supporting/Interfacing with Engineering Department for the analysis of all data coming from the field for the purposes of resolution of technical problem on the on trains.
    • Reporting of all the anomalies found in commercial service and organization of the same in official reports to be sent to all company function • Interface with the customer and the technical fleet management to deal with all emergencies possible arising during the commercial service.
    • Supporting the customer in corrective and preventive maintenance execution by:
    • Coaching and training the customer on executing maintenance tasks, following procedures delivered by Gibela Engineering team upon request.
    • Answering to all requests addressed by the customer – by call or directly at technical support desk.
    • Train preparation, all levels of diagnostic on trains/CFM or use of on-board computerized equipment/working manuals, troubleshooting guide and train system knowledge.
    • To troubleshoot and repair the GIBELA Rolling Stock, in line with specified Quality procedures. This will require manual work and sometimes working on powered up trains in a safe and controlled manner.
    • To carry out such work in accordance with strict Health & Safety procedures as laid down by legislation and the Company Health & Safety policies.
    • To carry out train preparation, all levels of diagnostic and work arising involving the use of onboard computerized equipment/working manuals, troubleshooting guides and train system knowledge.
    • To undertake other duties as specified by the Team Leader and Depot Manager.
    • To adhere to Company procedures especially in relation to Quality and Health & Safety.
    • To read reports and manuals as and when required.
    • To report accidents/incidents, and the work done to repair the Trains.
    • To drive company vehicles when required and applicable
    • To obtain and maintain a Depot Track Competence license.
    • To train new members of the team.
    • To assist the Reliability team and the Field Engineer to understand the root cause of complex failures.

    Maintenance Technician - Johannesburg

    Job Purpose

    To provide support to the Maintenance Engineers on technical investigations, providing technical support to help desk and to ensure that all documentation production requirements are met.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • BSc or BEng Degree or BTech in Electronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
    • Minimum 2  years’ experience in Life Cycle Cost / RAMS in railway industry.
    • Registered or Registerable as a Professional Engineer /Technologist with ECSA.
    • Maintenance Documentation Specialisation /Technical Writing , will be an advantage.
    • Train the trainer experience will be an added advantage.

    Main Responsibilities

    • Supporting and maintaining the maintenance documentation system and deliverables.
    • Managing the production and maintenance of the Bill of Material.
    • Producing clear and concise technical documentation in the form of specifications, test procedures, modification instructions, maintenance safety instructions and technical reports.
    • Carrying our product/process audits of depot maintenance and casual repairs.
    • Assisting PRASA and/or Gibela front office as necessary to diagnose train defects where technicians require guidance.
    • Accompanying the customer during outing condition audits and undertake product and process audits as required ensuring the integrity of the fleet and maintenance processes.
    • Continually reviewing all maintenance, reliability, overhaul and associated documents to ensure all are up to date and correctly formatted.
    • Assisting in parts identification, creation of DTR numbers and obsolescence management.
    • Continually improving training material and sustain trainer qualifications in order to provide training courses to PRASA at the expected service level.
    • Presenting Technical Bulletin to PRASA relating to the changes to maintenance procedures for timely sign offs.
    • Writing high quality, easy to understand maintenance instructions in XML using Arbotext editor.
    • Maintaining a comprehensive library of technical terminology and documentation.
    • Illustrating material for maintenance procedures using photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts.

    Manager: Process Manufacturing & Engineering - Motors (Nigel)

    Job Purpose:

    Manage the team of Process Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers or Technicians within the Motors Department. Support industrialization of new products. Organise and bring technical support to manufacturing.

    Stakeholders:

    • Internal: Industrial Team, Manufacturing team, EHS team, Human Resources, Quality team, IT team.
    • External: SETA (TETA), SEIFSA, Training providers, TVETS, UoT, PRASA, DoL, NAMB, QCTO, Alstom Transport.

    Requirements:

    • Industrial / Mechanical Engineering Degree / BTech or Engineering Related Preferably.
    • Manufacturing or Manufacturing Engineering background with 6 to 10 years’ experience.
    • Technical experience of Process Engineering, writing manufacturing work instructions, line balancing, Lean Manufacturing.
    • Experience in working with an ERP (such as SAP) for Bill of Materials, Routings, Configuration follow-up.
    • Working knowledge in Quality, EHS standards and Ergonomics.

    Responsibilities:

    • Define and update the function procedures, way of working and methodologies.
    • Ensure the staffing of the team according to the projects firm and forecasted workload.

    EPU Manager

    Overall Purpose of the Role

    Use APSYS principles to manage and drive defined KPI’s based on Safety, Quality, Delivery and cost. Capacity /workload management – People and competency management, Productivity and continuous improvement and tools management. Lead cross functional teams.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage autonomous teams around SQDC objectives; by using visual management, participates to daily meetings of the autonomous teams, communicate objectives and information needed for their achievement, solve problems, request assistance from support functions, and escalate when necessary.
    • Ensure that defined EHS policy and standards are adhered to and improve EHS performance.
    • Manage the department KPIs in line with safety, quality, cost and delivery targets.
    • Drive autonomous teams’ work in order to comply with daily production planning.
    • Define and implement corrective actions to address SQDC performance deviations.
    • Train and develop people within the team.

    Qualifications and Skills

    Education:

    • Grade 12
    • N6, Industrial Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Operations Management or relevant will be an advantage (Please amend)
    • Minimum Red Seal Artisan in the relevant trade.
    • Minimum of 3 years Product knowledge experience.

    Desired Knowledge and Behavioural competency:

    • Must be able lead and motivate a group of approx. 20 people towards achieving a set of predefined targets
    • Must have a knowledge with labour-relations policies and procedures in the South African labour context

    Shunter (Shifts) - Nigel

    Purpose of the Job:

    • Shunting Movement
    • Train Movement
    • Communications
    • Safety operation (Hand Points) in the yard
    • Compliance with EHS rules and work-related procedures
    • Risk assessment, AZDP and being a Spotter

    Key responsibilities include the following:

    • Check shunt book to verify shunt movements to be made
    • Ensure that u clearly understand the shunt movement that is requested
    • Do the risk assessment before any train movement
    • Ensure scotch blocks, red flags are removed prior the shunt move and are applied after the shunt movement to avoid train run away
    • Attend the toolbox talk to obtain the information regarding safety and daily tasks
    • Test the radios daily to ensure it is in working order before commencing duty
    • Uses hand signals, colour flags, colour lights, whistle and the radios for communication during the shunting and the train movement
    • Instructs the driver to perform the coupling and the uncoupling of the individual cars or train set
    • Also, in charge of installing the emergency coupler in the train to be shunted
    • Operates points (hand points) in the yard according to safety instructions
    • Ensure to always remain positioned in a way that both driver and the track in front of the way can be seen.
    • Ensure that the trans-border and turntable are clear from obstruction and that it is safe during shunting.
    • Respect EHS rules and any work-related processes
    • Report all the incidents and hazards to EHS/Supervisor
    • Ensure to report any faulty hand points and shunting delays to your Supervisor
    • Knowledge and understanding of air brakes.
    • Ensure that all tools and machines are kept clean and in good condition

    Requirements:

    • Grade 12
    • Shunting Certificate
    • Drivers Licence will be advantage, preferable Code 10
    • Technical knowledge with 3 to 5 years’ experience preferable in railway industry, in shunting position
