    Engineering Manager - Bellville

    Job Description    

    • Vector Logistics is seeking an Engineering Managerto join our Coastal Logistics Division.  The role will be based in Peninsula – Cape Townand report to the Engineering Executive.

    Vector Logistics entrusts the Engineering Manager to:

    • Manage the operation and maintenance of plant and equipment across coastal sites.
    • Manage project planning through prioritizing, scheduling and allocating tasks to different disciplines of the engineering department.
    • Ensure Control of Project Cost base, project management, drafting and finalizing service level agreements with contractors.
    • Ensure adequate resources are available to support the maintenance and project plan.
    • Monitoring, evaluation and controlling the maintenance costs, refrigeration plant performance and efficiency.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • 4 years Engineering Degree (essential)
    • An additional Refrigeration Qualification (advantage)
    • GCC factories (essential)
    • 8 years’ trade experience of which least 5 years in a supervisory category
    • Excellent understanding of mechanical, refrigeration and electrical engineering

    Duties & Responsibilities    
    Project Planning:

    • Develop and execute annual maintenance budget/capex with a focus on reducing plant down time and improve efficiencies of the refrigeration plant.
    • Ensure that health and safety requirements as per the Vector Logistics standard are adhered to with regards to facilities and equipment.
    • Process change control documentation with regards to all equipment and site changes with proven records for audit purposes.
    • Manage and control the fixed asset register and ensure that it is updated as per policy and depreciation is in line with group standards.
    • Ensure that all project work on site is carried out and completed to the highest level of trade-man ship quality and to safe food requirements.
    • Manage outside contractors to ensure the integrity of the engineering team and carry out corrective action when required.
    • Department Management – Loss control, asset management, spares utilization and stock holding, all administrative duties.
    • Conduct weekly project meetings to ensure all disciplines are aligned and that capex targets dates met in view of the year planner.
    • Preparation of all capitalized major maintenance and capital request motivations and supporting documentation.
    • Creating and keeping of an archive on each project for future references.
    • Conduct time and motion studies on specific areas of the site with a view to implement flow improvement, ergonomics’ and engineer bottle necks out by use of layout changes or equipment introduction.
    • Handle all investigations around IOD’s to establish all the facts to ensure prevention where possible and to address unacceptable or dangerous behaviour that can lead to injuries.
    • Safety control of contractors.

    Maintenance:

    • Develop and implement an effective planned preventative maintenance system for the Vector depots facilities as well as oversee major repairs of breakdowns thus minimising R&M costs in the region.
    • Deliver required plant availability and refrigeration plant performance across the sites.
    • Ensure maintenance metrics (planned maintenance compliance, backlog, artisan utilisation etc) are in line with set targets.
    • Ensure all buildings and accessories are utilised into risk, security, safety, health, HACCP AND ISO22000, 14000, 18000.
    • Ensure all electrical equipment and installations are maintained or installed in accordance with statutory requirements and business needs.
    • Oversee repairs and maintenance on all other utilities.
    • Optimise efficiencies and utilisation of assets in the region with the objective of minimising the costs per unit.
    • Drive sustainable maintenance practices throughout all coastal sites.
    • Manage maintenance team and ensure that planned maintenance programmes are implemented to enable optimal asset utilisation.
    • Ensure that maintenance practices and procurement processes are aligned to business standards.
    • Management of all planned maintenance, preventative schedules, work requests and break downs.
    • Ensure that all are working according to safety regulations and ensure the enforcement of food safety requirements.
    • Be available on call out and work on weekends or when necessary to ensure optimal performance of team and effective maintenance of equipment.
    • Organises meetings with engineering staff and prepares inspection reports.
    • Performs work inspections and checks for completeness of tasks.
    • Determines material, equipment, and supplies to be used.
    • Plan and manage weekend maintenance tasks and projects against budget.
    • Ensures the neatness of the buildings and premises.
    • Coordinates and manage, inspects, repairs and maintains to all sites and equipment and grounds.
    • Management of utilities operation, monitoring usages and implementation of savings initiatives.

    Risk Management:

    • In terms of design, use and maintenance, ensure all facilities comply with health, safety, security and other legal requirements.
    • Management of risk-based inspections and maintenance on fire detection and protection systems.
    • Ensure refrigeration plant compliance with SANS 10147 and other relevant legislation.

    Operational Engineering Management:

    • Responsible for health and safety with regards to all equipment and site to ensure a safe environment to operate and work on for all staff.
    • Ensure that the required focus is given to all audit requirements and findings.
    • Management of the day to day activities and out puts of each discipline.
    • Maintain discipline and standards in area of responsibility.
    • Drive and delivery the agreed strategy to reduce plant down time and improve efficiencies of the refrigeration plant.
    • Responsible for health and safety with regards to all equipment and plant to ensure a safe environment to operate and work on for all staff.

    Repairs and Renovations:

    • Coordinates renovations of existing facilities and the construction of new facilities.
    • Coordinates and inspects major contract work on the electrical, refrigeration, mechanical and plumbing, and other related systems.
    • Ensures that the building has adequate heating, lighting, and ventilation and that it is properly cleaned, maintained and in good working condition.

    Leadership:

    • Contribute to the development of new training solutions in collaboration with other regional engineer/s.
    • Train and mentor teams to improve performance.
    • Ensure alignment of teams on action plan/s and key objectives.

    Management of Safety Health Environment and Quality (SHEQ):

    • Follows up on requirements for compliance ensuring that it is continuously maintained and adhered to.
    • Measure and manage sustainability practices within area of responsibility.

    Safety and Security:

    • Follows safety rules and regulations as per organisation’s safety plan.
    • Reporting theft and dangers on the premises.
    • Ensures safety equipment is in good working order e.g. fire extinguishers.
    • Ensure that security is maintained and escalate any security concerns to Regional Operations Executive (ROE) and Engineering Executive (EE).

    Financial Management:

    • Manage costs to ensure lowest cost production and the optimal utilisation of assets.
    • Report to EE/ROE on a weekly basis on actual KPI’s versus budget and work with team to address and areas of nonconformance or concern proactively and timeously.
    • Report on and manage all input costs and manage any over or underspend appropriately to ensure that issues are escalated before significant financial loss occurs.
    • Authorises engineering expenses within level of authority and monitor spending activity within teams to ensure compliance to financial and ethical standards.
    • Implements and encourages cost cutting initiatives within the team where these do not impact on long term business sustainability.
    • Provide input into CAPEX documentation considering return on investment, resourcing, and sustainability requirements.
    • Manage suppliers and contracts in collaboration with the procurement team to ensure agreed service levels are met, escalate areas of concern to the ROE where necessary.
    • Manage contractors daily to ensure that correct standards of work are delivered and agreed delivery timelines maintained

    • Reconcile & Dispatch DO MORE merchandise, R4P Materials and ELPT materials.

    Learning & Development Manager - Malelane

    Job Description

    • Our Talent Team are currently looking for a Learning and Development Manager with a strong business acumen to join our Sugar Division to manage our SUGAR Learning Academy. The role will be based in Malelane, Mpumalanga, and reporting into the Group HR Executive: L&D, EE and B-BBEE Transformation.
    • The Learning Manager will be responsible for the design, alignment and implementation of a Learning and Development Strategy. The successful incumbent will be required to drive the creation of a vibrant learning culture across all the business units of the Sugar Division, encapsulating the shifts in learning as required within the new world of work, and drive the development, launch and sustainable implementation of functional, operational and leadership development interventions for the Sugar Business unit through various internal functional training Steering Committees.

    Talent Pipeline (Bursaries, Interns and Apprentices)

    • Manage the process of selection, appointment and development of the Bursary students, interns, learners participating in learnerships and apprenticeships.
    • Build relationships with relevant universities and learning institutions to enable the delivery of quality interventions for RCL FOODS Students.

    SETA Management

    • Ensure the successful submission of the annual WSP / ATR mandatory reporting.
    • Oversee applications for discretionary grant funding and the successful management of the awarded projects.
    • Perform programme management and qualification development within the SETA framework.
    • Participate in the relevant SETA Sub-Sector Committee (SSC), STC Committee, SETA Annual General Meeting (AGM) and most importantly to manage the stakeholder relationships with the relevant SETA
