    Shift Superintendent

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

    • To supervise, control and co-ordinate the processing operation in order to process product to the correct quality, to optimize productivity and yield, to utilize the equipment in a safe and effective manner. Superintendents are experienced individuals with the capability to lead, coach, motivate, monitor and oversee the running of the processing lines to ensure outputs within the agreed budget, quality and safety standards.

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

    • Provide leadership to all scheduled work shifts, which meets production schedules.
    • Assign and ensure the execution of daily production duties.
    • Effective utilization and management of raw product (finished product) by quality attributes including load, blends, sizing, defects, offal, cut uniformity, count, color, etc.
    • Contribute to the effective management of the company through development of short and long term production goals.
    • Perform administrative duties of personnel including leave, time and attendance management
    • Provide training, development, motivation, and teamwork discipline for all production personnel.
    • Collect, tabulate, and evaluate all necessary production figures for reporting needs.
    • Evaluate production methods, quality methods, and safety methods for continuous improvement.
    • Recommend and institutes lean improvements in work procedures, which improve production, product quality, waste reduction, and worker efficiency.
    • Ensure all personnel are trained in safety issues and maintains a safe working environment.
    • Maintain overall equipment efficiency above 90%
    • Knows efficiency and productivity measures, financial information including cost analysis, statistical process control, and cost justification.
    • Maintain a safety conscious attitude among direct reports, minimization of all workplace incidents and accidents, and accurate and timely completion of all accident investigation reports.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Diploma in Food or Production Management or related field (Degree in similar fields be an added advantage).
    • Minimum of 3 - 5 years Production experience in the food industry.
    • Preference will be given to applicants in a similar supervisory role.
    • Working knowledge and accountability of GMP, HACCP and Food safety, BCEA, OHS Act.
    • Proven record of technical abilities.
    • Sound computer literacy preference to SAP and Kronos.
    • Strong leadership and communication skills.
    • Assertive, achievement orientated KPI driven.
    • Medically fit and willing to work in cold environment.
    • Ability to work productively in a stressful environment.
    • Willing to work shifts as and when required including over weekends.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to handle pressure whilst maintaining a high work rate.
    • Assertive and results orientated.
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making.

    Shift Supervisor (RMI - Agriculture)

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

    • Daily planning and decision making on the allocation of resources and equipment of end-to-end processes in Raw Material Intake (RMI) from receiving, grading, storage and utilization of Raw Material in line with production requirements.

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

    • Decision making and allocation of all resources (people and equipment) across functional areas to meet operational requirements and to ensure efficient throughput.
    • Manage continuous improvement processes, known as MDI (McCain Daily Impact).
    • Control and supervise team on shift to ensure optimized throughput and prevent bottlenecks.
    • Daily inspection and control of stores and stores controls.
    • Maintenance scheduling & equipment optimization with Maintenance Supervisors.
    • Report on truck movement in RMI on shift.
    • Real Time Management reporting per shift.
    • Check and oversee the grading process and red flag.
    • Check, action and report on stock integrity and quality.
    • PC&R (Potato Contracting & Receiving) Input and stock control.
    • Cleaning & Housekeeping.
    • Ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) & Food Safety.
    • Participate in audits.

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMNETS

    • Grade 12 or equivalent. Tertiary qualification will be advantageous.
    • Pass assessment based on role competencies.
    • Valid driver’s license will be an added advantage.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Previous FMCG manufacturing experience with 2 years in a Supervisory role.
    • Computer literacy with specific reference to strong Excel skills.
    • Communication, interpersonal and leadership skills – across functions and external stakeholder.
    • The ability to take decisions about daily operations and allocation of resources within RMI. 
    • Strong understanding of Raw Material Intake (RMI) Operations.
    • An average score on the role specific assessment.
