    Senior Tax Consultant (Ind Tax) VAT(Job Number: 2400001P)

    Job title/position:  

    • Snr Manager (VAT)

    Function and Business Unit:  

    • Tax & Legal – Indirect Tax (VAT) Johannesburg
    • Description of the role and purpose of the job:
    • To provide a wide range of VAT consulting/advisory services to a large portfolio of clients, including involvement on external audits as a specialist, as part of multidisciplinary teams.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Job Specifications for Indirect Tax (VAT) Manager/Senior Manager
    • Advise on VAT effects of  complex transactions
    • Build and grow own client base
    • Build and maintain professional relationships with clients
    • Effectively manage relationships with the relevant local and foreign tax authorities
    • Build a network in KPMG South Africa as well as with other member firms
    • Conduct reviews and provide support as part of external and/or internal audit
    • Interpret facts and apply legislation, case law, Interpretation Notes, Rulings, etc.
    • In-depth knowledge of the Value-Added Tax Act and Tax Administration Act
    • A good understanding of related tax legislation that impacts on VAT such as the Income Tax Act and the Customs and Excise Act
    • Make recommendations regarding VAT risks and opportunities
    • Prepare clear, sound, accurate reports and opinions containing findings, conclusions and recommendations
    • Support opportunities and manage relationships with colleagues in other business units in Tax & Legal and in the broader KPMG
    • Manage projects from start to finish (including risk, budgeting, billings, etc)
    • Work directly with the partner and/or Associate Director to deliver quality services on time
    • Manage junior colleagues
    • Responsible for performance evaluations and appraisals of allocated colleagues
    • Meet fee targets
    • Manage lock-up (including billings, provisions, collections)
    • Prepare articles and do presentations

    Minimum requirements to apply for the role (including qualifications and experience):

    • BCom, CA (SA), LLB; HDip (Tax) or similar OR other qualification with relevant experience
    • At least 4 years relevant VAT experience
    • (Relevant experience includes opinion writing, dispute resolution, advising on concept papers, VAT compliance, external and internal audit support, due diligence reviews, etc)

    Description of the role and purpose of the job:

    • Manager in Learning and Development and the purpose of the role is as follows;
    • To support the L&D Audit team with training deployment as well as Audit liaison for SSA
    • To manage one Audit client
    • To be responsible for technical and non-technical L&D courses as a content lead
    • To be involved in key KPMG Infrastructure/PPC/L&D projects impacting learning and as the need arises
    • To manage external service providers within portfolio
    • To be a performance manager within L&D

    Key responsibilities:

    • Develop course content for both technical Audit training as well as non-technical L&D courses
    • Project manage all technical and non-technical courses responsible for throughout the year as well as submit and manage budget for each course
    • Facilitate Audit technical as well as non-technical training
    • Alignment to, compliance with and implementation of ISQM1 requirements and processes within L&D
    • Manage service providers responsible for, in line with our procurement and finance processes as well as relationship management
    • Consultation with stakeholders as content lead
