    Operations Supervisor (Limpopo)

    Description

    An exciting opportunity exists to ensure that several tasks are carried out on site to safety, environment and productivity, and to assist management with the efficient and effective running of the site

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Business / Functional Management

    • Execute operational and technical duties in line with organisational directives, as provided
    • Support implementation of business initiatives as directed

    Financial, Commercial and Contracts Management

    • Work with materials and equipment in a cost-effective way, as per standard operating procedures and practice notes as directed
    • Ensure full compliance to material usage requirements in executing duties

    Risk Management and Compliance, Including Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) Responsibility

    • Execute all duties in strict compliance to Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) policies, procedures and legislation, to ensure the company's responsibility is met
    • Comply with all reporting and information requirements

    Stakeholder Management (Internal and External)

    • Ensure professional interaction with stakeholders
    • Maintain working relationships with support functions on site and at head office, as required to deliver in their section against standards
    • Engage with peers and seniors on the project to ensure project objectives are achieved as per instruction

    Operations and Project Management

    • Contribute to plan / schedule generation for daily / shift work, in line with project goals
    • Responsible for operational execution of work, through delivery of own tasks and duties, as well as supervision of the work for the team on shift

    Management Operating Systems and Reporting

    • Ensure all paperwork and posters are displayed on the site office wall and kept up to date
    • Ensure all reported near misses are recorded following procedure and submitted weekly

    Technical Management

    • Responsible for adherence to technical standards and work methods, for section, in accordance with organisational and client requirements, policies, procedures and legislation

    SHEQ Management

    • Check sums are right on plan drawings and quantities and that all materials and work are to the specifications
    • Record the condition of plant arriving on site on a form with photographs

    People Management

    •  Lead, and manage team
    •  Support, guide and coach team

    Culture and Climate

    • Contribute to a culture of safety and continuous improvement for the duration of the project
    • Align with client culture requirements as directed by management

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • B Tech  or Degree in Civil Engineering

    EXPERIENCE

    • At least one to two year’s tailings deposition experience working in a mining / tailings environment or construction environment

    Operations Supervisor (Musina)

    Description

    Responsibilities

    Business/ functional management

    Requirements

    Qualification

    • National diploma in civil or mining/ Metallurgical/ industrial Engineering or Equivalent.
    • B Tech in civil or Mining/  Metallurgical Engineering or Equivalent

    Experience

    • At least 1 to 2 years tailings deposition experience working in a mining/ Tailing's environment.

    Skills, Qualities & Abilities Required

    • Solid understanding of the mining industry with specific emphasis on Tailings business.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the national legislation, standards and bylaw application to tailings business. Excellent knowledge and understanding of technical and operational aspect core to the tailings industry. First line supervision – management theory and application.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Strategic Risk Management

    • Drive and develop the corporate technical strategy
    • Design, implement, maintain, improve and interpret tailings risk management systems.  
    • Guide the development of new equipment, digitalisation and other innovations.

    Leadership

    • Guide a team that monitors, reports, escalates, evaluates and eliminates client risk.
    • Development of differentiated solutions in de-watered tailings and repurposing of tailings incident Investigation, mitigation and  management from time to time.      
    • Represent the organisation as a thought leader within industry on a global basis. 
    • Support Global Code compliance and serve on/support industry leading best practice development bodies, i.e. ICMM, GTMI(GISTM), etc.
    • Client consultation – innovative solution generation.
    • Undertaking due diligence reviews.

    Business Development

    •  Develop technical solutions and integrate with commercial proposals.
    •  Explore potential business opportunities, participation in Industry wide initiatives and R&D.
    •  Establish technology and execution partnerships with consultants, engineering and equipment   supply companies and other service providers to deliver a differentiated and integrated service.
    •  Ensure and develop Industry awareness of FA differentiators.
    •  Brand ambassador and enhancer.

    Operational Assistance

    • Technical and operational guidance, review of operating methodologies and plans.
    • Assist Business Unit’s with operational compliance, including client reporting. 
    • Interpretation and analysis of technical data.
    • Guidance and planning of corrective and remedial action.

    Technical Solutions

    • Client, Engineer of Record and FA Operations interface from time to time on strategic technical solutions.
    • Guide geotechnical review work and cascade outcomes to operations.
    • Review of deposition and reclamation facilities and associated infrastructure design, proposing alternatives and finding optimal solutions.
    • Research and Development of systems and equipment in support of Fraser Alexander Tailing’s core operations and Nxt Generation Solutions. Project management and co-ordination of initiatives.

    Quality Management

    • System review, pprocedure review and ooperational review.
    • Document management.

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • BSc Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
    • Postgraduate qualification in soil mechanics and / or mineral residue design and management would be a definite advantage.
    • Management qualification an advantage. 
    • Registration with appropriate professional body as a Professional Engineer.
    • Publications and industry recognition through well-established platforms.

    EXPERIENCE

    • 20 plus years experience and established personal brand as a South African leading authority and Globally recognised authority on tailings.
    • Industry thought leader and collaborator.
    • Multidisciplinary and cross divisional management.
    • Risk management and associated monitoring, mitigation and tracking.
    • Extensive experience in mineral residue facility design, construction, operation and closure and related legal, environmental and techno-economic requirements. 
    • Numerical modelling of soil mechanics and tailings engineering projects would be an advantage.
    • Strong design and risk management understanding.
