    Technician, Instrumentation

    Job Advert Summary    
    PURPOSE:

    • To test, repair, inspect and maintain metering and recording instruments, controlling devices, data logging and display equipment, communications and telemetry systems; and perform related work as required.

    Minimum Requirements    
    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • N Dip: Engineering (Essential/Minimum)
    • B Tech (Relevant) (Recommended/Desirable)
    • Certificate First Line Management (Recommended/Desirable)

    EXPERIENCE: 

    • 3-5 years Process control and instrumentation systems experience  (Essential/Minimum)  Operational

    Duties & Responsibilities    
    Compliance, Governance and Assurance    

    • Develop/maintain/improve safe operational/engineering standards and continuously review specifications/schedules
    • Ensure equip integrity maintained according to safety standards
    • Maintain Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and related systems, aligned with safety standards/Occupational Health/Safety and Environment registers/ International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 14000; 9000 and 18001 systems
    • Conduct timeous investigation of incidents and ensure adequate remedial action
    • Execute/drive safety programs
    • Ensure effective risk management by identifying hazardous activities and mitigation measures

    Customer, Stakeholder and Client Relationship Management    

    • Manage internal and external relations, including interface with external providers or other functions responsible to ensure that business needs are met, and employees are satisfied
    • Render professional customer support services
    • Communicate with clients and direct superior to share information on duties performed

    Equipment Operations and Control    

    • Calibrate readings on instruments according to standards, adjust phasing (if applicable) and align stage to ensure accuracy of recording/indicating function
    • Record calibrations made/parts and components used/inventory on hand
    • Trace out/test electronic solid state/vacuum tube circuitry/components to locate defective parts
    • Remove defective instruments from system
    • Decontaminate/disassemble/clean/lubricate/ reassemble instruments
    • Replace defect parts and reinsert instruments into the system
    • Reassemble instruments and replaces instruments in system, using hand Tools
    • Test accuracy of flow meters/pressure gauges/temperature indicators/controllers/radiation counters or detectors/underground environmental monitoring equipment (methane, air-velocity etc.)/leaky- feeder system and other recording/indicating/controlling instruments (as applicable per Plant or Underground mine) to locate defective components in system using test equipment such as pressure gauges, mercury manometers, potentiometers, pulse and signal generators, oscilloscopes, transistor curve tracers, and ammeters, voltmeters, and watt meters

    • Adhere to all health and safety practices and promote good housekeeping on an ongoing basis
    • Address all unsafe practices and /potential hazardous situations, rectify/report to superior
    • Comply with Safety Health Environment and Community (SHEC)/technical requirements

    Technical Support    

    • Inspect, test, adjust, and repair electric, electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic instruments and systems used to indicate, record and control generating operations in conventional or nuclear power electric generating plant
    • Inspects meters, indicators and gauges to detect abnormal fluctuations
    • Prepare schematic drawings, sketches and reports to reflect changes or alterations made in instruments, circuits and systems
    • Record keeping of all Radio Active sources on mine

    Manager, Engineering

    Position Overview:

    • As the Manager, Engineering, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our Engineering and Physical Asset Management strategies.

    Attendant, Fire Extinguishing

    PURPOSE:

    • To ensure fires are extinguished in a safe manner by servicing and maintaining fire equipment, to ensure they are in working order as required by legislation.

    Duties & Responsibilities    
    POSITION TASKS:

    The incumbent will inter alia be responsible for the following:

    Inspection and Control

    • Inspections are executed according to schedule and record cards
    • Defects are reported immediately to the Fire Master
    • Equipment is inspected to ensure compliance to South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) 0400 standards
    • Inspection register on equipment is completed in full and signed (card on fire extinguisher)
    • Inspections are executed according to planned maintenance on critical equipment
    • Monthly inspection on equipment is done to ensure compliance to Business Unit standards and SABS 0400
    • Standby equipment including fire vehicle are inspected daily and proactive steps taken to ensure all equipment is functional
    • Render firefighting training to staff as per Safety Health Environment and Community (SHEC) requirements
    • Ensure fire alarms are operational
    • Signed hot work permits
    • Ensure the monthly testing of all automatic discharge spray systems

    Operational Support

    • Rectify defects noted during inspection immediately when possible
    • Standby equipment is tested weekly to ensure serviceability
    • Fire station is cleaned with the supplied cleaning materials and appropriate cleaning methods are used as prescribed by procedures and manufacturers' specifications
    • All workshop equipment is checked and tested as per the requirements and Safe Work Procedures (SWP)

    Safe and Healthy Work Environment

    • Adhere to the SHEC programs at all times (toolbox talks, audits etc.)
    • Incidents and accidents are reported immediately to the Fire Master according to set procedures
    • Maintenance work is done according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), regulations and standards
    • Take necessary SHEC precautions when working on production equipment
    • Personal protective equipment is worn at all times
    • Tools and equipment are inspected daily prior to being used, according to SHEC practices and statutory requirements
    • Work area is cleaned and the environment restored to its original state after completion of a job

    • Provides strategic support and technical financial expertise across all sustainability portfolios and initiatives at Exxaro.
    • Monitors and reports on the financial performance and outcomes of all sustainability initiatives, highlighting opportunities for improvement and optimisation, and ensuring financial and management forecasting and budgeting integrity, legal and regulatory compliance, and alignment with Group financial objectives and with strategic SI priorities, environmental and social goals.
    • Accountable to collaborate with and provide financial oversight, guidance, assurance, and regular financial performance reports to immediate colleagues in the best interests of the SI function within the context and financial risk appetite set by the Chief Sustainable Impact Officer.
    • Serves as the point of contact for the Corporate and Operational Finance teams, Supply Chain Management, Internal Audit and other relevant teams regarding all SI budgeting, reporting, financial assurance, financial audits, and other support requirements.
    • Accountable to lead the SI Finance and Accounting teams towards the successful delivery of its strategy, creating an environment conducive to delivering Exxaro’s SI growth and revenue ambitions while fostering a culture of ownership and accountability.
