    Junior Engineer - Hammarsdale

    Role Purpose:

    • The Junior Engineer will be responsible for various tasks in the Agric space ranging from planning of projects;cost control of these projects and other duties in conjunction with the Engineering team.

    Required Qualifications:

    • BSc Degree in Electrical Engineering
    • Valid Driver's License and own vehicle

    Required Experience:

    • 3 years of trade experience of which a minimum of 1 years in a supervisory category
    • Excellent understanding of mechanical, refrigeration, and electrical engineering

    Key responsibilities:

    Project Planning

    • Prioritizing scheduling and allocation of tasks to different discipline of the engineering department, with the assistance of the planner and plant engineer.

    Project Cost control - control of approved budget and subcategories

    • Implementation and completion of Capex Strategize capex focus to reduce plant down time and improve efficiencies of machines and lines.
    • Ensure that health and safety requirements as per the Rainbow standard are adhere to with regards to specifying new equipment.
    • Process changes control documentation with regards to all equipment and plant changes with proven records for audit purposes.
    • Champion conditional-based monitoring systems to budget/ plan for Projects to reduce unbudgeted spend.
    • Conduct feasibility analyses and proposals that promote efficiency improvements and cost saving through ad - hoc, based projects (separate from unbudgeted) and alternative process flow developments.
    • Ensure that all project work in plant is carried out and completed to the highest level of trade-man ship quality and to safe food requirements.
    • Manage outside contractors to ensure the integrity of the engineering team and carry out corrective action when required.

    Department Management

    • Loss control, asset management, spares utilization and stock holding, all administrative duties.
    • Conduct weekly project meetings to insure all aligned and that capex targets dates met in view of the year planner.
    • Preparation of all capitalized major maintenance and capital request motivations and supporting documentation.
    • Creating and keeping an archive on each project for future reference.
    • Conduct time and motion studies on specific areas of the plant with a view to implement flow improvement, ergonomics, and engineer bottlenecks out by use of layout changes or equipment introduction.
    • Handle all investigations around IOD’s to establish all the facts to ensure prevention where possible and to address unacceptable or dangerous behavior that can lead to injuries.
    • Safety control of contractors.
    • Supervision and Administration:
    • Develops new work schedules for all activities to be performed on newly installed equipment.
    • Management of the planning and admin functions of the engineering department.
    • Effective capex budget management.
    • Management of stores and procurement department.

    Repairs and Renovations

    • Coordinates renovations of existing facilities and the construction of new facilities.
    • Coordinates and inspects major contract work on the electrical, refrigeration, mechanical and plumbing, and other related systems.
    • Ensures that the building has adequate heating, lighting, and ventilation and that it is properly cleaned, maintained and in good working condition.

    Safety and Security

    • Keep a process control register and execute all such process control requests to ensure food safety is not jeopardized.
    • Prepare a monthly PCC report for Group Engineering Manager.

    Role Purpose:

    National Account Manager - Hammarsdale

    Role Purpose:

    To develop and maintain the Rainbow business with a particular retail customer or group of customers according to the company and channel strategy and to develop and manage relationships with large national accounts and to set the accounts’ overall strategic direction.

    Scales Technician - Hammarsdale

    Role Purpose:

    • We at Rainbow Chicken are in search for a Scale Technician to join our Engineering division. The Scale Technician will be responsible for the maintenance of computer weight grading system and use diagnostic tools to identify and resolve technical issues at the root cause. This incumbent will be responsible for maintenance of all electronic mass meters at the Processing Plant P2 - Hammarsdale. 

    Required Qualifications:

    • Minimum qualification N5 - Electronics
    • Trade tested as Scale Mechanic / Technician.
    • National Diploma in light current is  advantageous.
    • Accreditation with SABS as a Verification Officer or be operating as an acting Verification Officer.
    • Knowledge of SANS 10378 and SABS 1649
    • Qualified to conduct internal audits according to SANS 10378
    • Knowledge of the Trade Metrology Act and Regulations.
    • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, A+ would be an advantage

    Refrigeration Technician (Fitter)

    Role Purpose:

    • The Chicken Business is currently recruiting for a Refrigeration Fitter to be based at the Chicken Processing Plant in Worcester (Western Cape) and report to Plant Engineer. The role will be responsible to support the Engineering department by ensuring proactive maintenance, repair and service of refrigeration equipment.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Grade 12 or NTC 3 (relevant trade)
    • Trade test as a Refrigeration Technician - Ammonia
    • Valid CAT B certificate

    Required Experience:

    • 4 - 5-years relevant experience (post qualification) as a Refrigeration Fitter
    • 4 - 5 years relevant experience in ammonia
    • Advantage - experience in freon gas

    Boiler Operator

    Role Purpose:

    • The Chicken Business is currently recruiting for a Boiler Operator to be based at the Chicken Processing Plant in Worcester, Western Cape. The successful incumbernt will be responsible to operate boilers at optimum efficiency and provide a constant steam supply to Byproducts and Processing.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Grade 12 
    • Formal Boiler Operator training and qualification (compulsory)

    Required Experience:

    • Formal boiler training and experience
    • 2 - 3 years experience as a Boiler Operator
    • 2 - 3 years experience working in a processing plant would be advantage
    • Water chemical dosing
    • Coal Stock Management
    • Disposal of ash
    • Management of temperature and pressure on panel of boilers
    • Boiler Housekeeping

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Maintain a constant steam supply to both the Processing and By-products plants.
    • Operate the boiler in a safe manner in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
    • Ensure that feed water chemical dosing is carried out to the required standard.
    • Fill the coal bunker to ensure sufficient supply of coal for optimal boiler operation. 
    • Observe pressure, temperature, and draft meters on panel to verify specified operation of the boiler.
    • Clean the boiler house and surrounding area.
    • Ensure ash disposal is done in compliance with environmental requirements.
    • Report defects on the boiler requiring external intervention and ensure repairs are done, assist Artisan with maintenance.
    • Manage coal stock delivery and flag late or non-delivery to avoid depletion of the coal supply.
    • Record daily and hourly actions and consumption in order to obtain a history log on the operational efficiency of the boiler.
