    Chief Operator: Hydrometallurgy

    Job description

    • Responsible for logistics and operational issues, including the commissioning, maintenance, and operation of laboratory and pilot scale facilities, in the Hydrometallurgy Division.
    •  Ability to handle and process solid and liquid materials in a safe and responsible manner.
    • Must be able to operate a wide variety of equipment and processes in the Discipline and may be assigned to be the custodian of a specific workflow, laboratory/process or plant equipment, such as sample/raw materials preparation, plant commissioning, etc.
    • Prepare equipment and facilities for use and check the operability of standard equipment and facilities to ensure that they are ready for use, and must provide technical and procedural advice to line reporting staff, e.g. instruction on how to operate equipment, which equipment settings are the optimal, etc.
    • Must possess basic knowledge and expertise necessary to lead a team of operators in problem solving and decision making, for example, how to construct and commission a plant, including what staff are required, what their role should be, etc. This includes providing technical and procedural advice to line reporting staff.
    • Assist under supervision in managing equipment, for example making sure that laboratory equipment and pilot plant facilities are efficiently used and looked after, including both laboratory and pilot equipment.
    • Undertake data management and reporting, including compiling log sheets and spreadsheets using formulae (basic mathematical and statistical functions). This includes filling in log sheets with measurements and meaningful descriptive observations that could have an impact on the accuracy of results.
    • Responsible for managing the productivity of staff, including efficiency, timekeeping and turnaround times, efficiency, throughput, etc.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts on infrastructure through standardization of procedures while delivering on performance against agreed metrics. This includes conducting detailed investigations into facility bottlenecks, understanding root causes and establishing control measures to prevent reoccurrence.
    • Provide technical support to internal and external clients to ascertain scope requirements and to timeously deliver on research and commercial projects, including supervision and training of O- and P-level operators, interns, and contractors involved.
    • Evaluate facilities, processes, systems, products or new developments to identify opportunities and deficiencies to ensure continuous improvement.
    • Conform to all relevant SHEQ procedures, guidelines and rules, and ensure that relevant risks and hazards are identified and managed through Mintek-approved risk assessments and procedures. This includes ensuring that all relevant SOPs are up to date and complied with.

    Minimum requirements

    • 10 years’ experience in the operation of relevant Hydrometallurgical unit processes and/or equipment.
    • Knowledge or experience with SHEQ systems is non-negotiable.
    • A strong understanding of Leaching, IX, SX plant setup is highly advantageous.

    ERP Functional Support Specialist (Finance)

    Job description
    KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

    •  Identify and develop improvements related to Financial, Project, Supply Chain Management, and Sales & Service ERP processes.
    •  Train Mintek’s ERP system users on Financial, Project, Supply Chain Management, and Sales & Service ERP processes.
    •  Provide technical and functional ERP system support to Mintek users.
    •  Consult with management to devise the most useful ways to apply the ERP system for business goals.
    •  Develop and implement ERP system applications as per documented business requirements.
    •  Extend ERP system functionality, test and implement new features.
    •  Document configuration changes and update system blueprints.
    •  Configure and administer the ERP system and automate tasks.
    •  Maintain and update ERP system applications.
    •  Monitor ERP system interfaces with other systems to ensure healthy system integration.

    Minimum requirements 

    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE 

    • Honours degree in  Finance or ICT related field, or equivalent
    • 5 years minimum relevant experience 

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

    • Extensive experience in financial and project management processes as run in an ERP system.
    • Must have experience with a first or second-tier ERP systems, e.g., IFS, SAP, or Sage.
    • Relevant experience with IFS would be preferable.
    • Ability to handle sensitive company information responsibly.
    • Ability to solve complex issues.
    • Ability to conduct research independently.
    • Ability to prioritise, think and work quickly to remedy system shutdown or serious software problems

    Fixed Asset Accountant

    Job description

     

    Asset acquisition

    • Advise buyers and administration officers on correct procedure to procure assets.
    • Verify that the cost of the asset is correct in terms of the Asset Management Policy and that all applicable costs have been included.
    • Review asset acquisitions to ensure that assets are categorized correctly in terms of the Asset Management Policy.

    Asset register maintenance

    • Ensure that all assets are on the register and that the depreciation is done in accordance with the relevant policy.
    •  Review that the asset register is updated with respect to all items of information relevant to each asset item.
    •   Develop and maintain a process of relocation of assets.
    • Review all asset master data changes for accuracy.
    • Ensure all asset holders have an updated location asset register at all times.

    Asset verification

    • To apply knowledge and skills to oversee the regular asset verification exercises. This includes:
      • Planning of such verifications (audits);
      •  Execution of audits;
      •  Reconciliation of physical verification results with the fixed asset register;
      •  Compilation of report setting out result of the audit;
      •  Facilitate resolution of problems detected during audit through discussion with related parties and correction thereof on the asset register where applicable.
    • Assist asset clerks with bar coding of existing and new assets.
    • Assist asset clerks with large disposals and movements.
    • Conduct regular asset verification throughout the financial year.

    Month-end activities

    • Review capital projects on a monthly basis and ensure that all necessary items are settled to assets.
    • Perform a monthly depreciation run on the IFS system after all capital expenditure has been settled to assets in the Asset Module.
    • Ensure the reconciliation of the fixed asset register to the fixed asset accounts in the general ledger on a monthly and yearly basis.

     

    Disposal/write-off of assets

    • Ensure that scrapped items are disposed of in accordance to the policy.
    • Ensure the adherence to approved policy and procedure of all asset items scrapped / removed from the asset register.
    • Review list of assets to be auctioned and approve for submission to Head: SCM.
    • Ensure assets are de-activated on IFS after disposal/write-off provided the necessary authorisations are in place.
    • Maintain and verify the schedule of all written-off/disposed assets for audit purposes.
    • Advice on any assets that is impaired when physical verification is conducted.

    Administration

    • Ensure that policies and procedures related to fixed assets are adhered to by regular communication with asset holders, managers and heads.
    • Review the accuracy of fixed asset register on IFS.
    • Review policies and SOPs in respect of the management of assets within Mintek, communicating changes to all staff. Monitor compliance regarding asset management.
    • Control Capex budget. Liaise with SBUs to verify actual vs. planned expenditure.
    • Develop a system to track movements of assets.
    • Monitor capital projects and ensure that settlements of projects are done on time.
    • Maintain asset master data on IFS.
    • Evaluate useful life of major assets.
    • Maintain a schedule of current year acquisitions with supporting documents.
    • Review asset register on a regular basis for anomalies.
    • Assist annually with review of useful life and impairment of assets.

    Reporting

    • Preparation of documentation and financial entries regarding acquisition, disposal and loss of assets.
    • Compile monthly management reports.

    Compliance

    • Analyse potential upgrade to / amendment of Mintek’s policies and procedures with respect to fixed asset accounting to ensure maximized efficiencies and economy.
    • Assist in the compilation of working papers to substantiate the content of the annual financial statements including the processing of year-end transactions

    Minimum requirements

    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting
    • 2-5 years experience in an asset management environment.(IFRS compliance)
