    Required Minimum Qualifications: 

    • BSc Chemical Engineering/BTech Chemical Engineering/BTech Pulp and Paper
    • 4 Years in the Pulp and Paper Industry
    • 2 Years Dissolving Pulp experience
    • Relevant Management Qualification / 2 Years Supervisory Exposure will be advantageous.

    Financial Accountant

    Management of accounts

    • Prepares the monthly group management accounts for Sappi Limited, and assists in compiling the annual financial statements for Sappi Limited as part of the Sappi Limited corporate accounting team.  Completes the IFRS Reporting and JSE Disclosure checklists for the quarterly financial results and annual financial statements.
    • Prepares the quarterly group consolidation and board pack for Sappi Papier Holding GmbH and its annual financial statements.
    • Prepares monthly reconciliations, investigates variances, dealing with audit queries and assisting in ad hoc project work including refinancing, acquisitions and technical accounting queries.
    • Update group accounting policies as and when required.
    • Assist in the group implementation of any new accounting standards.
    • Performs ad-hoc tasks per company request.

    Interim and year-end audit schedules

    • Manages and supervises the preparation and presentation of information and documents for interim and year-end audit for both internal and external auditors and plans accordingly ahead of time.  Obtains and confirm schedule requirements and expected audit timelines. 
    • Consolidates the transactions for Sappi Limited and Sappi Papier Holdings’ (SPH) on the Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) System ensuring that all intercompany transactions, including subsidiary investments and equity, are accurately eliminated.
    • Prepares the South African Reserve Bank’s B21 Company Returns Forms for Sappi Limited’s offshore investments.

    Authorisation

    • Becomes an authorised signatory to approve and release payment.

    • Scheduling maintenance of Plant according to SAP Notifications and Planned Schedules, and does fault finding on systems during breakdown and repair the problem to keep downtime to a minimum.

    Forestry Manager Khulisa - Zululand

    Sappi Forests requires a Forestry Manager - Khulisa to manage sustainable wood fibre supply into the various Sappi markets; balanced supply according to market demand; grow local enterprise and supply capacity to support growth whilst developing and growing local economy through facilitating cooperation by all stakeholders and build synergies with relevant departments. This position will oversee central Zululand.

    This role reports to the General Manager: Khulisa.

    The main responsibilities of this job are:

    • Assess & review the re-establishment program (planting & coppice regeneration), monitor the placement of the plant order with Nurseries, ensure the annual plan of operations (planting; weeding and fire protection) is aligned to budget and implemented; ensure the Temporary Unplanted “TUP” targets are achieved within budget constraints to ensure sustainable wood fibre supply and profits to stakeholders.
    • Evaluate quality maintenance of all activities by conducting monthly infield audits (assess stocks planted and harvested; weed maintenance and fire preparations) on a minimum 10% of the months to maintain silvicultural standards; minimise risk and loss through timeous intervention.
    • Ensure that all suppliers are informed of forecasted FDI and resources are readily available to immediately respond in the event of a fire to minimise costs and loss
    • Facilitate the development of cordial relationships between suppliers; their neighbours and the local business community through local farmer associations and Fire Protection associations membership to ensure collaboration and cooperation between stakeholders and improve response disastrous events.
    • Encourage suppliers to invest in equipment that is owned by farming community cooperation through farmers association or FPA to improve access and availability and profits to the growers.
    • Ensure all operations comply with service level agreement by doing infield service audit checks to guarantee quality and delivery of value for money
    • Ensure that all projects have the necessary required resources and capacity to achieve targets by determining scope of annual activities and recruit and or develop the required skills
    • Ensure adherence to the chain of custody principles through spot audits on a proportionate percentage of supplied wood fibre volume for the month monitoring the source “infield audits” and the supplied volume versus contractual volume to combat criminal activity
    • Monitor loan recovery by prioritising wood fibre on the annual harvesting APO before spot timber and monitor infield stocks versus sales and TCS recovery reports reducing loss to the company
    • Monitor infield versus depots stock level reports to ensure rateable wood fibre delivery to the Mill and achieve targets
    • Conduct interim infield inspections to monitor and ensure adherence to safety and Mill quality specifications to proactively mitigate; save lives and ensure efficiencies
    • Communicate with the Logistics office to optimise delivery against targets and attain customer satisfaction
    • Monitor harvesting performance; scheduling of short-haul & loading operations to ensure grower service providers benefit from timeous interventions and achieve targets
    • Ensure that relations with communities and other internal & external stakeholders are effectively maintained & managed to uphold the company image through proactive risk identification and mitigation, and enhanced relations through regularly planned engagements.
    • Manage relationships with DAFF, DRDLR; DWAS; IDC; Traditional Councils and local municipalities by supporting interventions of common interests and extending invitations to stakeholder outreach programmes including grower days
    • Ensure that a professional relationship with suppliers’ service providers is maintained by ensuring that quality, delivery and compliance standards as set out in the job instruction system and service level agreement are adhered to, concerns logged and actioned promptly, and incidents closed off formally to maintain company image.
    • Facilitate rates negotiations between suppliers and service providers by ensuring that there is fair engagement and both parties are capacitated and helped to develop an appreciation of business principles
    • Develop a supplier development programme with set delivery targets and timelines by working closely with the uLwazi team and the ESD programme to ensure sustainable wood fibre supply and prosperity for the suppliers
    • Ensure technical knowledge transfer to the suppliers by encouraging maximised supplier involvement in their business operations through regular infield engagements and planning discussions “cover APO and budgets” at the end of seasons as well as grower field days
    • Expand growing tons by identifying new areas with tree growth potential and recruit growers into the unit; determine suitable supplier contracts to increase sustainable wood fibre supply to own markets
    • Ensure compliance to legislative and company policies & procedures by holding others to account and training where necessary to ensure fair trade and prosperity
    • Analyse TCS reports and ensure that timber supply is aligned to contractual volumes and all suppliers have updated contracts in place.
    • Audit TCS adherence, eCams and Forcelink by drawing system reports and analysing in order to ensure legal compliance
    • Improve supplier loyalty by keeping them abreast of their deliveries, share monthly reports or statements; respond timeously to concerns and share the latest industry developments to enhance growth and empowerment
    • Ensure that company assets such as buildings; vehicles are maintained & managed effectively according to set standards (hygiene & legal compliance) and regulations and within budget constraints to curb penalties and loss
    • Ensure compliance to all legislation regulating the work environment including SHEQ policies, Sappi procedures, best-operating practices and work instructions by suppliers through Stop and Think Before You Act (STBA)
    • Educate suppliers on markets’ requirements and monitor adherence to standards, policies and procedures to ensure mutual benefit

    • Ensure projects remain financially viable; suppliers enjoy maximum skills benefits and deliver according to business plans through regular engagements with the suppliers to enable effective skills transfer and economic growth 
    • Facilitate water licence applications through direct engagements with DWAS; DEFF and EDTEA, get all necessary documentation available to ensure speedy resolutions to achieve annual planting targets
    • Ensure that the following month’s sales plan is compiled, confirmed and submitted to the Forestry Manager (FM) to ensure timeous communication with the Logistics manager
    • Ensure weekly infield and depot stocks are communicated to the harvesting FM to ensure alignment of timber supply to market demand
    • Prepare monthly progress reports to monitor all technical, financial and administrative resources made available to your unit to ensure seamless reporting requirements for senior management and suppliers are met.
    • Report monthly on the district’s performance, ensure monthly performance is captured correctly in the reports and costs analysed to enhance costs efficiencies in the organisation

    • National Diploma in Forestry or related qualification
    • A Logistics and/or Transport Management qualification will be advantageous.

    As an Instrument Mechanician, you will be responsible to:

    • Installs, commissions, modifies and maintains instrument installations and DCS equipment by the application of engineering expertise and skills in order to satisfify Engineering and Production standards and requirements. 
    • Optimises by loop tuning, investigates and fault-finds process controls systems (DCS) by the application of engineering skills, process plant and process control knowledge so as to maintain performance requirements of such systems.
    • Removes defective instruments from system, decontaminates, disassembles, and cleans instruments, and replaces defective parts, using hand tools. 
    • Reassembles instruments and replaces instruments in system, using hand tools. 
    • Calibrates readings on instruments according to standards and adjusts phasing and aligns stages to ensure accuracy of recording and indicating function.
    • Records calibrations made, parts and components used, and inventory of parts on hand. 
    • Prepares schematic drawings, sketches, and reports to reflect changes or alterations made in instruments, circuits, and systems.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. 
    • Required to work standby and overtime as required. 
    • Understands the SHEQ requirement, investigates incidents (SHEQ) and identify root causes of Non-Conformances and corrects deviations, and maintains a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all time. 

    Required Minimum Qualifications: 

    • Recognised Instrumentation Trade Certificate (Manpower or SETA accredited)

    As a Process Controller : Power (Utilities), you will be responsible for:

    • Takes and hand over shift
    • Runs up turbo generator and synchronize onto bus bars.
    • steam demand
    • Alternates operation of pumps and compressors weekly to ensure that it is in a working condition in the event of an emergency.
    • Cleans and Flush Oil separators and replace Filters as required
    • Imports electricity from ECS to satisfy the mill’s electrical demand
    • Runs import Vars as low as possible to save on import cost
    • Generates electricity on Turbine. Interpret electrical data and act on it.
    • Generates and distributes instrument and essential air at the required pressure and dryness to the mill. Decide on combination of compressors to run
    • Distributes steam at the required pressure and temperatures to the mill.
    • Supplies the de-aerators with feedwater and steam at the correct pressure and temperature
    • Supplies de-superheating water to the mill.
    • Charges steam and water lines and decide when safe to commission.
    • Carries out daily routines as per shift checklist.
    • Takes action during emergency conditions (i.e. power failure)
    • Monitors and Assist with Demin Plant operation after hours
    • Operates reducing stations to supply the 11 Bar and 3.2 Bar

    What are we looking for?

    • Matric and Full N4 Pulpmaking and/or NQF Level 5 Qualification.
    • Minimum 3 years’ plant operations experience
    • 2 years Supervisory experience.

    Job Description

    We’re on the lookout for an experienced Engineer: Boilers to supply competent and cost-effective maintenance and engineering support, service, advice, solutions, and techniques to maximize boiler performance in a safe and legally compliant manner.

    As an Engineer: Boilers, you will be responsible for:

    • Develop, implement, and maintain standards to increase boiler plant and equipment reliability and safe operation
    • Complete failure analysis of plant and equipment  as per plant standard, identify probable root cause and ensure close-out
    • Inspect the internal condition of the boiler during shut down in relation to the AIA to obtain a COC after any modification and repair
    • Manage boiler inspection reports and repair data books
    • Assist the Maintenance Manager with long-term maintenance planning, budgeting, capex, maintenance, and project work execution
    • Provide weekly feedback to the Maintenance Manager on boiler performance, unresolved engineering problems, monthly projects report, investigations undertaken, and the status 
    • Support ISO9000 (Quality Management system), ISO14001 (Environmental Management standards), ISO50001 (Energy Management System), and OHSAS18000 (Health and Safety Management System) for engineering in the section. Educate the team on the requirements and monitor adherence to standards, policies, procedures, and work instructions
    • Participate in the development of safe work procedures for the section, perform critical task analysis, guide and monitor the team on correct isolation and lockout procedures when performing maintenance work

    What are we looking for?

    • 5 years of Boiler and turbine experience
    • Experience within the pulp and paper industry would be considered advantageous
    • NQF level 7 Engineering Qualification (BSc / BEng / BTech in Mechanical Engineering)
    • GCC (Factories) or permission to write will be considered advantageous
    • Management Development Programme (MDP) or relevant management qualification will be considered advantageous

    Senior Civil Technician - Saiccor Mill, Umkomaas

    Job Description

    We’re on the lookout for an experienced Senior Civil Technician to provide Sappi Saiccor Mill with sound civil technical support and apply the theory and principles of civil engineering in planning, designing, and overseeing the construction and maintenance of structures and facilities.

    As Senior Civil Technician, you will be responsible for:

    • Plan yearly civil shutdown work, maintenance work, work orders, and breakdowns within a section of responsibility as per mill standards and procedures
    • Monitor contractor productivity and schedule performance 
    • Evaluate the structural stability of factory buildings, roads, effluent, and drainage through visual assessments
    • Assist in developing engineering specifications and drawings for maintenance works
    • Monitor the erection, installation, and commissioning of civil works ensuring all mill and safety standards are adhered to
    • Document all changes to specifications, work scope, and drawings timeously and accurately
    • Monitor and control civil maintenance expenditure and cost reporting on planned budget spent
    • Maintain and understand the SHEQ requirements within the area of responsibility to ensure compliance with statutory legislation and codes of practice

    What are we looking for?

    • Minimum NQF level 7 qualification (B. Tech in Civil Engineering while B. Tech in Structures would be preferred)
    • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience within heavy industry
    • Construction Management experience would be considered advantageous
    • Computer Literacy (MS Office) with SAP knowledge will be advantageous

    As a Buyer you will be responsible for: 

    • Sourcing goods and services according to specification in accordance with the procurement policy and/or sourcing strategy
    • Issuing tenders and RFQs and engage with stakeholders to define engineering requirements
    • Evaluating the tender process, arrange bid clarification and adjudicate
    • Ensuring that quality control procedures are implemented and adhered to by the suppliers and supply certificates of conformance where required
    • Raising deviations/claims against vendors for poor performance and drive non-conformance to an acceptable conclusion
    • Negotiating preferential payment terms and Incoterms
    • Undertaking vendor assessments and maintain vendor master data
    • Implementing and/or follow effective expediting procedures and monitor vendor performance
    • Updating and monitoring purchase order lifting plan
    • Planning and scheduling shipments and deliveries and monitor deliveries against order/plan
    • Switching between transport modes and cost options relative to risk and urgency in line with the sourcing strategy

    What are we looking for?

    • Relevant Diploma NQF Level 5-6 in Supply Chain Management/ Procurement or relevant field
    • 3-5 years procurement or materials management experience
    • SAP MM experience
    • Experience in the technical and/or manufacturing environment would be an added advantage
