    Professor/ Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/ Lecturer (M609, M621 & 375)

    Minimum requirements

    • PhD or equivalent NQF level 10 qualification in engineering, with an undergraduate qualification in Mechanical or mechatronic engineering.
    • At least 10 years of teaching/professional experience.
    • Evidence of a sustained scholarly track record in the form of international peer-reviewed publications, with at least 10 DHET-accredited research outputs in the past 3 years.
    • Evidence of sustained successful postgraduate supervision at Masters and Doctorate level, with at least 3 Doctoral and 5 Masters students supervised to completion.
    • Involvement in industry-based research, community engagement, and the ability to attract external funding.
    • Evidence of sustained external funding.

    Additional Recommendations

    • Good Publications Record
    • Good communication and lecturing skills
    • A strong passion for teaching and research
    • Professionally registered with ECSA or a plan to register in the short to medium-term
    • NRF Rating
    • A proven track record of successful mentoring of Postdoctoral Fellows.

    Field of Expertise

    • The candidate must have expertise in at least one of the following research areas:

    • MEng or equivalent NQF level 9 qualification in engineering, with an undergraduate qualification in Mechanical or mechatronic engineering.
    • At least 3 years of teaching/professional experience.
    • Evidence of emerging research and publication record.

    • Good communication and lecturing skills
    • A strong passion for teaching and research
    • Professionally registered with ECSA or a plan to register in the short to medium term.
    • Good research track record or relevant research experience and an ability and desire to advance research development in the department.
    • Required to currently be pursuing or immediately pursue a doctoral qualification in Engineering.

    Field of Expertise:

    • The candidate must have expertise in at least one of the following areas:
    • Mechatronics, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, Thermodynamics, Manufacturing Processes, Mechanical Engineering Design, Finite Element Analysis, Computational Modelling and Fluids Mechanics.

     Summary of Duties:

    • Teaching, assessing, and supervising at all relevant levels.
    • Responsible for at least three modules per year in accordance with fair workload distribution.
    • Development of learning materials for different courses.
    • Supervise BEng Tech design projects and be actively involved in research and/or post-graduate supervision in the department.
    • Assist with administrative and other duties as prescribed by the Head of Department or representative as delegated.
    • To serve as chair of a specialty area on a rotational basis.
    • To contribute/lead curriculum design.
    • To assist the department in the delivery of quality teaching and learning.
