    Testing Team Leader

    Job description

    PURPOSE:

    To lead the team that prepares detailed test scripts, test execution, collation of test evidence and the production of test plans and testing reports throughout the testing life cycle within the SDLC to ensure systematic implementation and maintenance of effective testing processes.

    POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

    EDUCATIONAL (Minimum level necessary to perform the job).

    • School Matric
    • Professional / Tertiary Degree in Information Technology or related discipline or equivalent.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • Proficiency in test automation and advanced testing methodologies essential.
    • Successful completion of certification in application of ISQTB® Foundation Level required

    EXPERIENCE (Minimum necessary before being considered for the Job)

    • 6 - 8 years of experience in software quality assurance/ control testing.
    • A minimum of 6 years’ experience in test analysis.
    • At least 3 years’ experience in a testing leadership role.
    • Extensive experience in building regression testing suites.
    • Good understanding of insurance and financial systems and technologies

    TRAINING (Essential training received in addition to the above experience to perform the job).

    • Needs an in-depth understanding of test strategies and testing approaches.
    • Thorough knowledge of structured testing methods and processes.
    • Proven experience of testing complex user interfaces.
    • Detailed knowledge of both Manual and Automated Testing.
    • Experience and proven record in leading high performance testing teams
    • Experience in testing using an automated test tools.
    • Experience in testing Windows Software Applications / Database applications produced using various programming languages such as VB, C#, Access, SQL Server, etc.
    • Commitment to quality and a thorough approach to work.
    • Careful attention to detail.
    • Excellent critical analysis skills.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
    • Experience in foundation level testing techniques.
    • Proficiency in test case design and traditional software quality assurance methods.

    • Lead the testing efforts and operate as the most experienced, knowledgeable, focused and productive testing professional on projects and testing consultant company wide.
    • Perform high-level/critical validation and exploratory test coverage using different testing techniques on assigned projects.
    • Prepare test plans and test scripts to test each software component and demonstrate the business condition under test and compare the actual to the expected results.
    • Facilitate execution of test scripts and the observation & recording of test results.
    • Manage the identification of system faults and logging/ reporting of system defects.
    • Maintenance and retention of test results & execution logs.
    • Creation of tests for retest of corrected defects or changed requirements.
    • Set-up and initialise the test environment, back-up & recovery of the test refresh.
    • In-depth knowledge and understanding of testing tools, testing methods and techniques
    • Ensure high quality standards and accuracy are maintained throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
    • Prepare and maintain test plans for use on automated testing tools.
    • Provide estimates and feedback to the Manager(s) for project scheduling purposes.
    • Provide feedback to the development team(s) and ensure the work is carried out in accordance with the projects schedule and the software quality requirements.
    • Preparation of testing dashboards for reporting on projects and to the relevant stakeholder forums.
    • Working under supervision as part of a multi-disciplined team and providing guidance to the testing team members.
    • Responsible for the day to day management of testing related tasks such as; the preparation of detailed test scripts, test execution, collation of test evidence and the production of testing reports. Must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
    • Sell and promote the benefits of thorough software testing to avoid reputation risks.
    • Perform systems issue reporting, research, analysis, confirmation and support resolution across all projects.
    • Schedule and perform a variety of testing related support tasks (i.e. UAT) for business stakeholders and the system development team (for unit testing evidence).
    • Maintain a strong knowledge of the project systems design and scheduling of changes to support QA testing effectiveness, focus and reporting.
    • Assist in software QA administrative and support requests and queries.
