    Reinsurance Actuary

    What The Day Will Look Like

    • Obtain and analyse relevant data from clients to determine trends, patterns and anomalies.
    • Set up, test and run model(s) for the client based on their current structures and a range of proposed options.
    • Continually discuss and debate results with Analytics and Broking teams.
    • Contribute in client meetings and presentations (present analytics segment of the broker’s presentation).
    • As required, work closely with brokers and/or clients to identify, research, benchmark, analyse and/or resolve ad hoc client issues (e.g. Claims data; systems improvements; impact and implementation of regulatory changes, etc.)
    • Maintain regular contact with key clients through formal and informal means.
    • Provide clients with updated information that could impact or interest them, e.g., technical and market developments, surveys, etc.
    • Identify needs/ gaps where existing tools, models and processes can be developed or enhanced.
    • Constantly scan environment for best practice/ improved ways of doing things.
    • Create and enhance templates for generic reporting.
    • As required, build/ enhance tools (e.g. for pricing, benchmarking and reporting)
    • Document high-level processes and train colleagues on how to use tools.
    • Interpret modelling results and incorporate into broader analytical framework.
    • As required, assist Executive Head: Analytics in the management of the Analytics team.
    • Understand and follow the Aon Leadership Model and take ownership of personal development.
    • Maintain personal and professional development.

    Skills And Experience That Will Lead To Success

    Qualifications.

    • Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (or equivalent) (minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience)
    • FAIS registered and compliant advantageous.

    Knowledge.

    • Climate change understanding and natural perils modelling advantageous.
    • Experience in VBA, Python and R coding will be advantageous.
    • Experience in ReMetrica or other Dynamic Financial Analysis software will be advantageous.

    Skills and Attributes.

    • Have advanced MS Office skills, especially advanced Excel.
    • Excellent verbal and written and communication skills
    • Be analytical, pay attention to detail, solid problem solving skills.
    • Sound internal and relationship building skills.
    • Strong personal organization and self-management skills.

    Experience.

    • Proven track-record and minimum 5 – 7 years’ experience in an actuarial re/insurance environment.
    • Preferable 3 – 5 years’ experience in short term re/insurance.
    • Consulting skills and experience.
    • Management and mentoring experience advantageous.

    BU Head: Claims

    What The Day Will Look Like

    • Accelerate the Aon Business Service Plan to set a new standard for Claims service delivery
    • Responsible for ensuring that the Claims Department continuously aligns with regulatory requirements
    • Responsible for the relationship management and agreements that Aon has with service providers
    • Responsible for formulating and implementing divisional strategies that will maximise new business opportunities, ensure retention of existing business and realise opportunities for cross selling.
    • Responsible for delivering revenue targets for business unit.
    • Responsible for the financial management of the business unit, including annual budgeting and financial and reporting.
    • Responsible for analysing and interpreting data in respect of industry competitors in order to exploit emerging opportunities and develop competitive advantage.
    • Leading and performance-managing a significant team in the business unit.
    • Working in partnership with other Business Unit leaders/ heads to develop and deliver divisional initiatives.
    • Lead a significant team to deliver against client needs and manage the performance of that team
    • Ensures that processes and measures are in place for monitoring and maintaining standards of business conduct consistent with Aon Ltd and legislative and regulatory requirements.
    • Contributes to and participates cross functionally with Aon wide senior executive groups and committees and ad hoc project teams and other groupings as required.
    • Responsible for engaging in business development and/or contributing directly or indirectly to all business development efforts in Aon South Africa.

    • Key Individual registered with FSCA
    • Short-Term Insurance Qualification
    • A relevant bachelor’s degree.
    • Or a relevant tertiary insurance related qualification.

    What The Day Will Look Like

    • A minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent
    • A Bachelor’s degree is preferable
    • Must be registered as a representative with the FSB in terms of the FAIS Act
    • NQF5 Wealth Management / Healthcare experience (advantage) and Retirement fund consulting experience

    Knowledge

    • High level of technical knowledge in order to be able to articulate solutions to clients
    • An in-depth strategic knowledge of industry and business strategies and company goals
    • Computer literacy with advanced know-how in MS Word and Excel.
