    Senior Lecturer .2.01 AC07 - Insurance and Risk

    Brief Description        
    Requirements for Senior Lecturer level:

    • A PhD in Insurance and Risk Management.
    • In addition to a PhD, candidates with a Master’s degree with a major in Insurance and Risk Management will be preferred.
    • Demonstrable experience in a research leadership role, including a track record of accredited publications and student research supervision.
    • Demonstrable experience in curriculum development and course administration, together with substantial teaching experience, both at postgraduate and undergraduate levels.

    Additional requirements for ALL levels:

    • It should be noted that the Division is looking to hire in the core Insurance and Risk Management areas of insurance regulation, economic theory of insurance, risk management, life insurance, health insurance, retirement funding, reinsurance and property and casualty insurance. Therefore, only candidates who have demonstrable track record of having formal academic qualifications at undergraduate and postgraduate level in insurance and risk management and/or finance related fields for lecturer level and insurance and risk management at senior lecturer level, who are capable of teaching in these areas will be considered.     Junior Researcher

    Brief Description        
    GCRO is seeking to appoint a highly motivated Junior Researcher (equivalent to Junior Lecturer) to the Inclusive Economies Research Programme (IERP) who will:

    • Contribute to the development of a comprehensive Inclusive Economies Research Programme.
    • Participate as a GCRO IERP team member to support the implementation of the programme’s defined research projects.
    • Organise regular meetings with IERP stakeholders to maintain regular contact.
    • Draft meeting minutes and reports on the progress of the IERP.
    • Assist with drafting of terms of references and assist with the management of short term appointments (on a     consultancy basis) to supplement existing capacity and/or address urgent research needs.
    • Contribute to analysis, research and quantitative and qualitative surveys on inclusive economic development.
    • Work in collaboration with a range of research entities, locally and internationally, in pursuit of the programme’s     objectives.
    • Participate in the effective dissemination of the team’s output to stakeholders and society.
    • Undertake academic research and publish in academic journals or books.

    We are looking for (selection criteria):

    • Applicants with a Master's qualification, or in exceptional cases an Honour’s with considerable relevant experience and evidence of progress towards attaining a Master’s degree in Economics, Social Sciences, Urban Planning and/or related fields.
    • A candidate with some applied work experience in research in inclusive economic development, regional economic development and/or related disciplines.
    • Evidence of an appropriate mix of peer reviewed scholarly output and other research outputs.
    • A candidate with qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills will be at an advantage.

    Academic Head Of Division_ Neurosurgery

    Brief Description        
    Qualifications:

    • A medical qualification, registerable with the HPCSA as a specialist
    • The candidate must be a specialist in Neurosurgery and a full-time employee within the Wits Teaching platform (Current Joint staff).
    • At least 5 years' experience as a Neurosurgeon,
    • At least 5 years’ experience at mid-management level,
    • Appropriate teaching and research experience are essential requirements for the position, whereas a PhD would be advantageous.
    • The applicant must have demonstrated well-developed proven communication, organizational, problem solving, leadership and project management skills.
    • Must have the ability to manage change in the division.
    • Management experience, in particular academic activities of postgraduate and undergraduate students is a requirement,
    • Be at least at the level of Adjunct or Associate Professor, or qualify to be awarded the academic title, although other Neurosurgeons, meeting all the above criteria may apply as well.

    Duties:

    • Lead and manage the discipline across all training facilities,

    • The GCRO seeks to appoint a flexible, multi-skilled Junior Researcher to be part of the Understanding Quality of Life research theme.

    For this post, we are looking for:

    GCRO Researcher: Inclusive Economies (Wits University level AC08)

    Brief Description        
    GCRO is seeking to appoint a multi-skilled Researcher (equivalent to Lecturer) to the Inclusive Economies Research Programme (IERP) who will:

    • Actively contribute to the conception and delivery of research projects on inclusive economic development.
    • Contribute to the development of the Inclusive Economies Research Programme in close consultation with the IERP’s Joint Steering Committee (GPG and GCRO) and the GCRO’s Management Committee.Contribute to analysis, research, and quantitative and qualitative surveys on inclusive economic development.

    Brief Description        
    The key functions of this position are:

    • Assist the ED in fulfilment of his research functions through coordination of research collaborators and/or direct involvement in research;
    • Work under supervision on GCRO research projects in conjunction with senior staff aimed at publication in accredited and non-accredited scholarly publications;

    Key responsibilities include the following:

    • Assist the WRAF Veterinarian with veterinary care and animal husbandry.
    • Assist with anaesthetics, surgical operations, and post-surgical care.
