    Operations Supervisor

    Description   

    • An exciting opportunity exists to ensure that several tasks are carried out on site to safety, environment and productivity, and to assist management with the efficient and effective running of the site.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Business / Functional Management

    • Execute operational and technical duties in line with organisational directives, as provided
    • Support implementation of business initiatives as directed

    Financial, Commercial and Contracts Management

    • Work with materials and equipment in a cost-effective way, as per standard operating procedures and practice notes as directed
    • Ensure full compliance to material usage requirements in executing duties

    Risk Management and Compliance, Including Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) Responsibility

    • Execute all duties in strict compliance to Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) policies, procedures and legislation, to ensure the company's responsibility is met
    • Comply with all reporting and information requirements

    Stakeholder Management (Internal and External)

    • Ensure professional interaction with stakeholders
    • Maintain working relationships with support functions on site and at head office, as required to deliver in their section against standards
    • Engage with peers and seniors on the project to ensure project objectives are achieved as per instruction

    Operations and Project Management

    • Contribute to plan / schedule generation for daily / shift work, in line with project goals
    • Responsible for operational execution of work, through delivery of own tasks and duties, as well as supervision of the work for the team on shift

    Management Operating Systems and Reporting

    • Ensure all paperwork and posters are displayed on the site office wall and kept up to date
    • Ensure all reported near misses are recorded following procedure and submitted weekly

    Technical Management

    • Responsible for adherence to technical standards and work methods, for section, in accordance with organisational and client requirements, policies, procedures and legislation

    SHEQ Management

    • Check sums are right on plan drawings and quantities and that all materials and work are to the specifications
    • Record the condition of plant arriving on site on a form with photographs

    People Management

    •  Lead, and manage team
    •  Support, guide and coach team

    Culture and Climate

    • Contribute to a culture of safety and continuous improvement for the duration of the project
    • Align with client culture requirements as directed by management

     QUALIFICATIONS

    • National Diploma in Civil or equivalent
    • B Tech in Civil or Mining or equivalent preferred

    EXPERIENCE

    • At least one to two year’s tailings deposition experience working in a mining / tailings environment or construction environment

    Excavator Operator

    Description 

    • Adherence to safe operation of the excavator machine in line with the manufacturers’ operating manual
    •  Digging trenches, Loading material, cleaning surface with the machine
    •  Conducting walk-around inspection & completing pre-start checklist
    •  Reporting all defects to the relevant artisan & line manager
    •  Ensure that risk assessments are conducted prior to all activities of the equipment, Identify substandard and hazardous conditions, assess and take appropriate action
    •  Ensuring that the appropriate safety, health and environmental standards are maintained and adhered to•Report and assist on formulating corrective measures against all substandard acts and conditions

    Requirements 

    • 3 Years’ experience of operating excavator in the tailings dam environment
    •  Medical Fitness Certificate
    •  Security Clearance
    •  Able to read, write and speak including English
    •  Ability to operate without supervision & excellent communication skills
    •  The ability to operate different type of machines will be an advantage
    •  A valid competency certificate of an Excavator Machine

    General Manager: Tailings RSA

    PURPOSE

    The purpose of the General Manager is to lead the FAT RSA Divisional operations, through setting Divisional strategy, translating it into tactical goals, and enabling operational excellence across multiple functions. The General Manager's focus is positioning the Division as a profitable business within FA, as well as building market share and business reputation with current and new customers.

    Requirements

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Strategic Management

    • Determine, in conjunction with the COO and other MANCO members, the strategic vision, objectives, and operating criteria for the immediate, medium and long-term for operations
    • Oversee the conversion of the agreed strategy into action
    • Grow the business in line with the strategic business plans

    Financial Management

    • Provide governance oversight for all business units, regions and projects in the Division, through appropriate financial reporting and analysis
    • Manage profitability for the Division, ensuring appropriate cost controls, as well as income generation and reporting
    • Work with the BI Department to implement operational efficiencies and savings programs

    Risk Management and Compliance Including Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Responsibility

    • Provide risk management leadership in the Division
    • Ensure the company's policy on social responsibility is applied effectively, and aligned with customer requirements
    • Align the Division to all ESG requirements from Group and from the customers and ensure full compliance across the Division
    • Provide safety leadership and build a culture of Zero Harm across the Division

    Operations and Project Management

    • Ensure that an appropriate mix of product offerings, project sizes and locations are achieved, for optimal Divisional profitability and efficiency
    • Ensure that all projects are managed and executed according to best practice for operations, technology, resource and stakeholder management, and take corrective action to address deviations
    • Drive project management excellence across the Division

    Management Operating Systems and Reporting

    • Define Divisional reporting requirements and ensure appropriate management control systems are put in place to meet those requirements, including forecasts, plans, execution controls and monitoring, reports, meetings and forums, and corrective actions
    • Comply with all executive and Group reporting requirements on the Division, and take full accountability for Divisional performance, as per agreed standards and parameters

    SHEQ Management

    • Ensure appropriate implementation of and compliance to all SHEQ Group, legislative and Divisional requirements across all operations
    • Own the risk register for the Division, and ensure that all regions and projects appropriately identify, manage and mitigate risks
    • Understand Client SHEQ requirements and always ensure full compliance

    Staff Management

    • Manage all direct reports across the people management spectrum – including  recruitment, performance development, labour relations, safety and health, employee wellbeing
    • Drive maturity and high emotional intelligence in leaders across the Division
    • Be a coach and mentor to senior managers in the Division

    Culture and Climate

    • Build a culture of continuous improvement and Zero Harm within the Division, business units, regions and projects
    • Ensure that any conflicts or challenges within a client culture is managed appropriately to maintain and enhance client relationships

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • BSc Engineering Degree or BTech Engineering (Mining / Metallurgical or similar) – MSc preferred
    • Senior management qualification (MBA preferred)
    • Commercial Diploma or Certificate

    EXPERIENCE

    • At least 10 – 15 years mining / mineral processing experience, including remining and tailings deposition management
    • At least 10 – 15 years relevant experience in respect of managing complex projects, preferably in tailings / mining / industrial manufacturing, with emphasis being placed on project management; construction and contract; financial, risk, commercial and legal management; operational planning, safety and implementation; HR management
    • 8 – 10 years engineering experience in a mining / tailings / processing environment, preferably on complex projects
    • Five years experience as Business Unit Manager in Tailings, or similar HOD management level in mining preferred

    Senior Technologist / Engineer

    PURPOSE

    An exciting opportunity exists to provide technical support primarily to the Fraser Alexander Tailings Division with the core function being to monitor and manage technical risk exposure. Technical support is provided to other Fraser Alexander operations as and when needed.

    Requirements

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Operational

    • Provide mentoring, guidance and support to Technicians and Engineers working within the Tailings operations
    • Monitor and report on technical risks by means of ongoing technical audits
    • Facilitate risk assessments on facilities with significant risk
    • Develop and agree on risk mitigation measures
    • Provide assurance that data submissions are accurate
    • Assess operational needs on an ongoing basis in terms of services provided, training and continuous improvement
    • Undertake technical reviews of Tailings operations including stability assessments, life assessments water balances, etc.
    • Prepare technical audit reports
    • Undertake studies and designs related to the construction, development and closure of tailings facilities

    Optimisation

    • Ensure continuous improvement to optimise the effective functioning of the technical risk unit
    • Work closely with operations on contracts to ensure that appropriate estimations have been made and accurate costings are submitted for project deliverables and performance in terms of technical input
    • Deliver on the value proposition to Fraser Alexander operations as per agreed scope of work

    SHEQ Management

    • Function within Fraser Alexander and client SHEQ standards and procedures
    • Suggest improvements and corrective actions where appropriate

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • BTech / BSc Engineering:  Geotechnical / Civil Engineering (essential / minimum)
    • Candidate Technologist / Engineer (recommended / desirable)
    • MRD101, 201 (recommended / desirable)

    EXPERIENCE

    • Four – eight years’ applicable experience in tailing operational and technical roles
    • Knowledge and understanding of the legislation, standards and bylaws applicable to the mining environment, in particular to tailings and water storage facilities

    Millwright (x4)

    PURPOSE

    Exciting opportunities exist to assist in ensuring efficient operations of the Plant against set objectives, thus maintenance of the Plant . Assist in attending breakdowns quickly on shift.

    Requirements

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Health and Safety

    • Maintain company and client safety policy and procedure requirements

    Operations

    • Monitor sampling procedures

    Maintenance

    • Create job cards
    • Execute Engineering work as planned
    • Inspect equipment in a working area
    • Perform general and process maintenance / repairs – electrical / mechanical
    • Execute planned maintenance tasks
    • Fault finding on centrifugal pumps, electrical motors, diesel engines, hydraulic systems
    • Perform quality assurance inspections on service providers

    Administration

    • Complete all reports regarding safety, production, quality control and maintenance

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • N3 – Mechanical / Electrical subjects
    • Trade test – Millwright MQA / Merseta preferred

    EXPERIENCE

    • Five years Millwright experience
    • Previous mining / production / construction environment exposure (preferable)
    • Good working knowledge of star/delta starters and VSD systems
