    Description

    Maintenance Specialist Belts (North West)

    Description
    PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

    • To continuously improve the Asset Capability Assurance process in a safe manner through Root Cause Failure Analysis on high frequency and high-cost breakdowns and analysing maintenance performance of the Belts.

    SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY:

    •  Ensure the legislated safety, health and environmental standards are maintained 
    •  Perform FMECA and HIRA analyses on new Belts
    •  Regularly review the FMECA and HIRA analyses on existing Belts.

    PEOPLE:

    • Supervise the team:

    •  Coach and mentor team members on effective Conveyor Belt system maintenance management

    Conveyor Belt Availability / Reliability:

    •  Check uptime data, investigate where necessary and take corrective action
    •  Keep record of breakdowns, call-outs, spares usage, etc. for all Conveyor Belt systems.
    •  Become totally integrated into the mining team to provide a comprehensive Conveyor Belt support service
    •  Ensure that relevant Conveyor Belt spares and adequate quantities are kept in stock, and devise action plan to handle emergency situations
    •  Establish a practical office management and filing system to promote good administration and record keeping.
    •  Prioritise and plan work within the team structure
    •  Compile preventative maintenance schedules on Conveyor Belt equipment.
    •  Perform mean time between failures calculations and take steps to solve down-time problems
    •  Implement modifications / upgrades / major repairs according to procedures.

    Standby:

    •  Perform senior stand by duties on designated areas from time to time
    •  Report any Conveyor Belt breakdowns which have the potential to or has resulted in a lost blast or production loss during call outs immediately to the Engineer
    •  Provide specialized on-site assistance to Belt personnel if requested.

    Solve problems and implement solutions:

    •  Arrange RCFA investigation and facilitate the problem solving session
    •  Analyse alternative solutions & recommend best solution/s based on:
    • HSEC impact 
    • Cost – risk – benefit analysis on key equipment performance parameters

    • Recommend best solutions to problems through the change management process

    •  Ensure the latest techniques are being applied with respect to NDT and condition monitoring

    Contractor Management:

    •  Develop detailed scope of work for defined scope jobs.

    Rotables Management:

    •  Maintain Scope of Work data base (Specifications, Quality Plan, Witness points).

    SHEQ Specialist Ventilation (North West)

    Description
    PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

    • The SHEQ Specialist Ventilation is responsible to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of ventilation and occupational hygiene systems to ensure adherence to all organisational standards and applicable legislation at the Business Unit operations. Conduct ventilation surveys, radiation and occupational hygiene surveys to verify routine measurements conducted by Ventilation officers.

    • Ventilation Management:
    •  Conduct ventilation and occupational hygiene strategic planning
    •  Ensuring that routine survey schedules exist
    •  Effectively manage Ventilation resources by providing guidance and direction
    •  Investigate and solve serious problems encountered in ventilation or other occupational hygiene factors in WCM shafts e.g., major changes in airflow, temperature increases, gas intersections etc.
    •  Monitor and evaluate the performance of the underground main and auxiliary fans and dust suppression systems to maintain optimum efficiency and ensure compliance with Mine standards and Legislation.
    •  Investigate and provide recommendations on specific ventilation designs and technological developments
    •  Devise contingency plans for underground fires that may occur. This includes evacuation plans, zoning of section, etc.
    •  Ensure that emergency planning information in the Emergency Control Room is updated on a quarterly basis
    •  Manage and coordinate the ventilation construction program to ensure effective ventilation of all working areas
    •  Ensure that all occupational hygiene monitoring functions and audits stipulated by the Mine Health and Safety Act and regulations are performed within time prescribed parameters
    •  Ensure effective ventilation and occupational hygiene control and reporting
    •  Provide specialist knowledge and advice to all levels of management to identify and resolve a wide range of occupational hygiene related issues.
    •  Compile blasting schedules conduct re-entry intervals to quantify the validity of the set times. 
    •  Implement and manage heat and cold stress management
    •  Ensure that operating costs are minimized through proper designing the accurate size of airways, fans and refrigeration.
    •  Ensuring that all pollutants are addressed before they could be health hazards and that risk assessments are covering all health-related hazards generated at WCM. 
    •  All relevant reports are compiled on time and sent to the applicable departments.
    •  Effective Management of Lamp room.

    Compliance Management:

    •  Ensure that operating standards and procedures are appropriate, entrenched and applied through regular audits and inspections as per organisational and legal requirements
    •  Ensure that all Ventilation activities are performed in line with the Mine Health and Safety Act, Minerals Act, ODMWA, COIDA, Water and Environment and Pollution Acts and DME guidelines.

    SHEQ administration and reporting:

    •  Monitor trend ventilation and occupational hygiene related statistics and interpret results
    •  Ensure that reports on ventilation and occupational hygiene work done in section are scrutinised, collated and verified
    •  Ensure compliance to all statutory requirements.

    GROWTH:

    •  Manage Continuous Improvement through Operational Excellence.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    •  Advanced Certificate in Mine Environmental Control 
    •  4 years’ relevant UG ventilation experience, preferably as a Practitioner
    •  Preferably 4 years’ experience as Vent Specialist.

    Additional qualifications:

    •  Radiation Protection Certificate (advantageous)
