    Shaft Timberman

    Job Description

    Effective shaft maintenance through the ability to:

    • Adhere to safety standards in the transport environment and safe production output
    • Effective labour control (no short shifts) and liaise with other teams in area.
    • Allocate resources and equipment according to priorities
    • Communicate resource requirements
    • Communicate operational problems to appropriate supervisor or manager
    • Blasting hanging boxes and blasting in decline area
    • Supervise multi-task team members
    • Inspect shaft and installations for defects
    • Lead the team during legal weekly shaft examination
    • Ensure the effectiveness of pipe and equipment installations
    • Communicate process defects to appropriate processors
    • Assist with equipment maintenance
    • Maintain effective two-way open communication

    Effective administration of systems (Shaft) Systems administration through the ability to:

    • Raise stock requisitions for materials required
    • Compile accurate shift and work order reports
    • Complete and sign off allocated work orders
    • Complete job cards and descriptions of work and spares used
    • Complete role administration requirements
    • Compile ad-hoc reports for management or other customers
    • Put all defects found during shaft examinations and/or shaft inspections on a action tracker and fix timeously
    • Participate in meetings
    • Ensure accuracy of technical data
    • This role is in the Engineering Department at a C2 level reporting to the Shaft Foreman

    Qualifications

    • Competent as Shaft timberman
    • Blasting certificate
    • Onsetter Certificate

    To be successful, you will have the following experience:

    • 2 years’ experience as an appointed Shaft Timberman
    • Driver’s license code 08
    • Working overtime and standby

    Learnership Admin

    Qualifications:

    You must have:

    • Management Assistant N6 qualification with passed subjects in Communication, Information Processing, Office Practice and Computer Practice.
    • You will be required to pass an aptitude test.
    • The Admin learnership will only commence after being successfully interviewed and a Fitness Certificate obtained.
    • Attach a residential confirmation letter from the local Municipality.

    Mining Planner Work Management

    Job Description:

    • As the Work Management Planner your responsibility includes to identify all work at a task level, including the duration thereof. This includes doing the planning and that these tasks are fed to the Works Management Scheduler in order to schedule all activities. 

    The focus for this role will be to:

    • Execute the "Plan Work" element of the Work Management Framework and review the Work Order Task Status Report on a daily basis. This include to assist in planning & prioritizing the work and track up coming work. 
    • Plan approved work orders for resource procurement and execution before expire date. 
    • Accountable for the collecting and collating of information as required by the business unit as per specific pre-planning guidelines and work package creation of all approved work. 
    • Optimise the planning process to minimise changes and variability and improve stability including cost budget control requirements adherence. 
    • Inspect work areas in mine to asses if there is any safety concerns and the reporting thereof and implementing a action plan to resolve these concerns. 
    • Ensure efficient mining operational execution by ensuring conformance to all mine planning related standards. 
    • Meet mining objectives by ensuring all planning systems are up to date and aligned to quarterly and yearly plans. 
    • Ensure compliance with all legal and environmental, occupational health and safety and risk management standards in accordance with the Mineral Act and Regulations and compliance to OSHAS and MHS Acts. 
    • This role is in the Mining department at a C5 level reporting to the Integrated Scheduler. 

    Qualifications:

    You will need the following:

    • Grade 12 
    • Metalliferious Blasting Ticket (Rock Breaking Ticket) 
    • Shift Supervisor Certificate 

    To be successful, you will have the following experience:

    • 2 years experience as a Shift Supervisor in the mining industry will be advantageous
    • SAP experience will be advantageous

    Operating Model Control Room Operator

    Job Description:

    Your day-to-day duties will include:

    Effective control of shaft systems including underground & surface conveying systems:

    • Effective belt, TMM management, man & rock winder and underground pumping systems monitoring
    • Effective response to indicated problems & call-out procedures
    • Effective reporting on Safety indicators
    • Minimize quantity of delays or disruptions to Shaft operation due to Control Room ineffectiveness
    • Effective communications with team members
    • Provide timely and accurate information for breakdowns, emergencies, and management
    • Ensure reports are completed to required standard & time frame requirements
    • Communication centre for underground operations
    • Emergency point of contact for underground emergencies
    • Liaison with Central Services as communication point regarding surface ore tramming.
    • Communication centre with Central Services regarding surface ore movement

    Effective monitoring, control & reporting of the shaft operation, conveyor systems and any incidents, where applicable, during a shift:

    • Monitor, control & record all shaft underground & surface variables for optimal performance during a shift
    • Controlling surface, shaft & underground operations
    • Communicating all system defects to appropriate supervisor or manager
    • Generating improvement ideas
    • React appropriately to any abnormal activities & notify relevant shaft supervisor
    • Assist Engineering to maintain equipment in control room area
    • Activate relevant fire alarm system/evacuation procedure
    • Monitoring the centralized blasting area.
    • Data logging

    Coordinating Control Room Operations

    • Assisting during breakdowns or emergencies
    • Applying appropriate stand by and/or call out procedures
    • Monitor & recording compressed air usage, pump stations and dam levels
    • Monitoring and recording anomalies at the loading box and skip conditions
    • Monitoring conveyor transfer box conditions
    • Identify and report any sudden changes in monitoring data.
    • Direct underground team leaders, chairlift operators and pump attendants to areas of concern and report same to supervisor

    Effective execution of control room operations

    • Perform area administration functions
    • Administer meetings within allocated time frame
    • Conduct and participate in required meetings
    • Monitoring time and attendance records where applicable
    • Compiling accurate shift reports
    • Compiling ad-hoc reports for management or other customers
    • Relay instructions from management to team members regarding surface ore tramming.
    • Establishing procedures for abnormal work requirements
    • This role is in the Engineering Department at a band C1 level reporting to the Engineering Foreman.

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12/ N3 with Maths and Science
    • 2-3 years’ experience working on shaft
    • Sound understanding of underground mining operations
    • Experience working in a call centre environment within Operating Model (advantegous) 
    • Computer literate with proficiency in MS Office
    • Code 8 driver’s license

    Additional information:

    • If successful, you will be required to work Shifts and Overtime when required by the company.

    Operations General Manager

    Job Description:

    • Ensure consistent application of safety & health principles in all site interactions within and beyond site boundaries to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities
    • Act as a role model and reinforce a workplace culture where safety and health for the site is paramount
    • Authorise on-site teams to challenge and act on unsafe behaviours and conditions without repercussions
    • Ensure that safety and health impacts for communities in close proximity from an integral part of site decision-making
    • Ensure development of site-specific plans/systems to reduce exposure to site-specific risks
    • Ensure on-site operational risk management systems are in place to assess critical risks and monitor effectiveness of critical controls, regularly review priority unwanted events and monitor critical control performance
    • Ensure that critical controls are embedded into daily work practices through an effective Work Management process
    • Ensure no safety-critical work happens outside of a Work Management process
    • Monitor and ensure effectiveness of on-site Safety & Health systems
    • Actively assess and ensure that required safety leadership capabilities are in place for all on-site leaders
    • Ensure that all on-site teams carry out their safety and operational activities in line with the site configured Operating Model workflow
    • Engage in physical safety checks, interventions, coaching and related interactions

    Operational Planning

    • Develop site-specific 5-year plan and 1-year budget in alignment with Group strategy, consistent with Life of Asset plan and making full use of the Operational Planning principles
    • Develop, plan and set production and service strategy objectives to close gap to benchmarks and best practices
    • Identify constraints and priority bottlenecks to maximise value in the system over the planning horizon using appropriate Operating Model tools
    • Define clear process expectations for each of the key value chain processes and functions within an operation
    • Ensure that all Group, BU and site-specific programmes of work are effectively integrated into the Operating Master Schedule
    • Communicate and cascade plan effectively throughout on-site teams
    • Ensure resource levels, including teams, are set appropriate to the plan and schedule
    • Ensure the plan addresses issues to deliver Anglo Americans long-term sustainability commitments, including environmental and social performance
    • Ensure innovative technologies and digitalised processes are used to maximise, streamline and simplify development and monitoring of performance

    Sustainability & Social

    • Deliver the sustainability activities set out in the Life of Asset Plan to improve sustainability performance over time. The plan should address the sustainability impacts of any new developments (e.g. expansions, SIB projects, new technologies, etc.), operational impacts (legacy, current and future) and be consistent with the site closure plan
    • Deliver the Sustainable Mining Plan commitments as set out in the 5-year plan
    • Lead site-specific cross-functional integration on sustainability to manage relevant risks/impacts and implement management plans
    • Ensure compliance with environmental and social requirements, including commitments to stakeholders
    • Manage environmental and social risks as part of the asset risk management approach in a way that is aligned with Anglo American's purpose and sustainability commitments
    • Manage environmental and social opportunities to create an enabling environment for the operation and improve people's lives
    • Ensure site operations are in line with site closure plan to hand back the lease of the asset at the asset’s end of life
    • Ensure processes are in place to build relationships with key local stakeholders
    • Establish site-level local engagement forums
    • Identify high-priority engagements to manage external facing risks and opportunities
    • Participate in high-impact engagements which create a platform for the GM (within the context of broader stakeholder engagement plan) that establish the GM as the face of Anglo American with local stakeholders
    • Ensure alignment of site-specific engagement with long-term BU and Group sustainability initiatives
    • Provide feedback to local stakeholders regarding the social and environmental components of the Life of Asset Plan and wider performance as required
