    Chief Customer Services Officer,Grade 13

    Job description

    Job Purpose:

    To provide customer service and technical advice to the EThekwini Electricity customers and electrical contracting consultants whilst ensuring meter reading and technical functions are managed and that the process for connections of supplies are not delayed and that problems pertaining are resolved.

    Key Responsibility Areas:

    • Manage and control the Customer Services Centre.
    • Provide advice and approve meter accommodation and electrical protection equipment.
    • Inspect installations of meters, report any suspected tempered meters for investigation, replace faulty meters and reimburse customers where necessary.
    • Prepare the sections capital and operating budgets and control expenditure.
    • Manage, develop and monitor the performance of staff and clerical staff involved in the application for electricity services.
    • Provide input in the drafting of tender specifications and the adjudication thereof.
    • Check and verify contractor invoices, ensuring that contractors are made responsible for paying damage to meter reading equipment.
    • Liaise with and attend to customers and/or their legal representatives regarding reconnection claims and disconnection errors.
    • Support and promote safety and accident prevention in the workplace.

    Essential Requirements:

    • National Diploma in Electrical Engineering from an accredited Technician or University of Technology.
    • Valid motor vehicle drivers license (Code B).
    • 5 years post qualification experience in the electrical supply industry including management experience.

    Special Conditions:

    • 40 hour-5 day week.
    • Permanent Locomotion Allowance or department transport at the discretion of the Head.
    • Protective clothing as per PPE Schedule.

    • Computer Literacy.

    Preferred Requirements:

    • Relevant post graduate qualification.
    • A recognised qualification in Project Management.

    DC Systems Officer,Grade 11

    Job Purpose:

    To maintain, test, repair and calibrate all electrical and electronic battery chargers and associated dc equipment as found in high and medium voltage substations.

    Key Responsibility Areas:

    • Tests, maintains, repairs and sets all the electricity unit's dc systems.
    • Plans, schedules and records management of the testing, maintenance and repair.
    • Implements applicable departmental policies and compliance with codes of practice, safety rules and other standing orders.
    • The cost effective use of staff, materials and other resources.
    • Computerises and maintains records and drawings of battery banks and chargers in the system, and the production of statistics.
    • Compiles reports and handling of correspondence.
    • Repairs, tests and calibrates instruments and relays associated with battery chargers.

    Essential Requirements:

    • Qualified Electrician who has served an apprenticeship recognized by the Department of Labour.
    • In possession of a NTC2 or NCV3 in Electrical Engineering from a Further Education and Training College registered with the Department of Education.
    • Valid Code EB (08) or EC1 (10) driver's licence, as applicable Must be in possession of a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP), if required.
    • For posts requiring switching- must be authorised in terms of eThekwini Electricity's System Operating Regulations to operate on medium and high voltage systems up to and including 275 kV or be in a position to become authorised within 9 months of appointment.
    • Must pass a proficiency test, set by the department to prove sufficient general knowledge of dc systems fundamentals and philosophies.
    • 3 Years relevant experience.

    Preferred Requirements:

    • In possession of a NTC6 in electrical engineering from a Further Education and Training College registered with the Department of Education.
    • Experience with and knowledge of eThekwini Electricity's distribution and transmission systems and practices.
    • Experience as an electrician in the electricity supply industry.
    • Meet all four proficiencies/competencies as a Senior Electrician.
