    Clerk of Works - South32, Richards Bay

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • To ensure that the quality of supplied equipment and workmanship are in accordance with the project scope of work, engineer’s design and specifications.
    • To monitor and control project execution (cost, time and quality) by ensuring adherence to construction regulations, Hillside HSE procedures, adherence to the project execution plan & reporting.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have an N4 Technical Certificate with engineering drawing subject with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in a Technical Field;
    • A valid trade test (Mechanical or Electrical) will be advantageous;
    • Safety certification and experience will be advantageous;
    • Experience in Civil Engineering or Construction Management in heavy industry will be advantageous;
    • Working experience on SAP is essential;
    • Experience in facilitating safe site deconstruction when project is complete is essential;
    • Experience in liaising with contractors, project engineers and a project superintendent on all project matters is essential.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Ensure advance scheduling of contractors/vendors;
    • Ensure that project contractors/vendors comply to construction regulations & Hillside HSE standards prior to commencement of construction work;
    • Ensure that safety files and all required project documentation is accurately completed, signed off and available for audit or verification when required;
    • Load the necessary SAP notifications and ensure that work execution is catered for during plant prioritization meetings;
    • Facilitate and ensure that all project contractors have the required authority to work onsite;
    • Facilitate project requirements for site establishment;
    • Monitor and report on project progress to Project Engineers and keep detailed project records;
    • Liaise with contractors, engineers and the project superintendent on all project matters;
    • Ensure compliance to design specifications, building/construction regulations, health, safety and environmental standards and legal requirements;
    • Ensure that daily project activities are safely executed as per the project plan;
    • Facilitate safe site deconstruction when project is complete.

    Title Specialist Governance & Technical Stewardship - South32, Hotazel Manganese Mines

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • Purpose of role is to deliver outstanding C&I engineering outcomes, including G&TS, asset management and the provision of C&I engineering technical support to Operations in accordance with relevant processes, standards and performance targets for HSEC and costs.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have N6 or National diploma in Electronics together a minimum of 10 years working experience in a heavy industry and/or mining;
    • Well-practiced and mature understanding in the key elements of governance and technical stewardship, standards and change control in Engineering function is essential;
    • Project Management experience in the delivery of small to medium sized projects is essential;
    • Computer literacy in MS Suite is essential;

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Comply with and provide input to regional G&TS framework and procedures to ensure C&I deliver business outcomes;

    • The purpose of the role is to provide theoretical and practical training and assessments, as well as follow up training and coaching in the Mining field to meet organizational objectives.

    Magazine Master - South32, Wessels Mine

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • The purpose of the role is to be monitor and control storage, ordering and distribution of Explosives and Accessories in accordance to Mining legislations and regulations.  

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have a Grade 12 with Mathematics & Science and a minimum of 3 years’ relevant working experience in mining environment;
    • Magazine Master Certificate is essential;
    • Valid driver’s license is essential.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Receive bulk explosives and accessories at the Explosives Magazine;
    • Monitor and control Explosives Magazine stock levels;
    • Order Blasting explosives and accessories as required;
    • Book out, transport and issue explosives and accessories to Shafts;
    • Maintain and update Explosive Registers;
    • Destroy bulk spillage emulsion (burning) and burn explosives packaging;
    • Monitor and control waste storage (Steel, domestic, rubber, brick yard).

    Boilermaker - South32, Wessels Mine

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • The purpose of the role is to be responsible for timely installation, repair and maintenance of equipment to ensure that mining activities are executed in a safe manner as well as operate equipment and tests all working parts in functional area to ensure proper utilization.  

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will Grade 12 with mathematics and science together with a N3 Technical Certificate with a Plater/Welder/Boilermaker Trade Test
    •  together with a minimum of 3 years’ technical experience as a qualified Boilermaker of which 3 years on Heavy Mining Equipment;
    • Experience in fabrication of pipe work and structures in an underground environment is essential;
    • Ability to read drawings and fabricate accordingly;
    • Valid Code 08 Driver’s license is essential;
    • Experience in maintaining fix processing plant equipment will be advantageous;
    • Working experience in SAP/1SAP will be advantageous.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Interprets and coordinates pre-work with regards to repairs, interpretation of hydraulic diagrams, planned and predictive maintenance;
    • Accesses any area safely to perform necessary maintenance on machines or equipment;

    Onsetter - South32, Wessels Mine

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • The purpose of the role is to safely load and unload people, equipment and materials into and from shaft conveyances and to give the necessary signals at the bank.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have a Grade 12 with Mathematics and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in position as Onsetter.
    • Valid Onsetter Certificate is essential;
    • Conversant in explosives handling;
    • Valid Code 08 Driver’s license is essential.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Conduct regular checks on all signaling devices and signaling lights;
    • Control all shaft entrances (Bank and Station) and allow safe access to Shaft Conveyances;
    • Give and receive signals to/from a Winder driver for starting and stopping conveyances
    • Load and unload men, material, and equipment. Explosives into and from shaft conveyance;
    • Test signaling devices for proper operation;
    • Report any faults and sub-standard conditions;
    • Maintain housekeeping standards in the Bank/Station area;
    • Assist with conducting shaft examinations (signaling).

    Superintendent Production A & I - South32, Mamatwan Mine

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • The purpose of the role is to manage the function of Analysis and Improvement for the production department and support the execution teams to meet the departmental objectives.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have a Degree, BTECH or National Diploma in Mining, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering (or similar) with 5 years mining and production experience, with at least 2 year in a supervisory capacity;
    • Experience in surface plants (Sinter, DMS or ore preparation) is essential;
    • Computer literacy in MS Office and SAP is essential.

    • Develop and implement the strategy and action plans for production;

    • To administer the production standards, operating procedures and control systems that ensure critical controls of the production processes exist and are effective.     Superintendent Asset Protection & Security - South32, Richards Bay

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • The purpose of the role is providing Asset protection and Security Services for the site including the Hillside Harbor Facilities. Expected to maintain a safe working environment by ensuring that the first line response teams are trained and competent to respond to emergencies in a safe and responsible manner, whereby priority is given to Life Preservation, Health and Safety, Environment, Equipment and Legal Reputation.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have a Degree/BTECH/National Diploma in Security/Risk Management/Safety with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Security Field with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity;
    • International exposure to Security and Asset Protection is advantageous;
    • Working knowledge of fire detection and protection systems is advantageous;
    • Sound knowledge of local bylaws and legislation pertaining to fire, emergency response and security is essential;
    • Qualification in Criminology is advantageous;
    • Experience in Incident Management and Emergency Response is advantageous;
    • Computer literacy MS on Office is essential;
    • Working experience on SAP/MES is an added advantage.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Manage the security function on site to ensure the protection of employees and assets;
    • Manage the access control system and perimeter to prevent unauthorized access onto site;
    • Ensure that the camera surveillance system is always functional and monitored by the control room staff;
    • Conduct threat assessments from time to time based on changing circumstances of the security profile in and around the plant;
    • Responsible for conducting investigations for all fires, fire alarms and emergency incidents in areas under Hillside’s control;
    • Monitor attendance to all spillages in and around the Plant (Pot-run outs, chemical, oil, product, cargo, etc.);
    • Co-ordinate fire and rescue simulations and participation in emergency drills, and involvement in onsite;
    • Maximize the introduction and use of technology to improve integrity of security operation and to stay abreast with new technology and application;
    • Identify gaps in security operations and make recommendations and corrections (in time and/or immediate as dictated by security risk);
    • Analyse failures and implement relevant actions and learnings from external Security ICAMS and other Industry learnings;
