    Principal Specialist: Pricing & Value Management

    Role Purpose:

    • The core purpose of the role is to support the Managing  Executive: Pricing & Value Management in providing Vodacom South Africa with a principles based pricing governance framework across VSA in order to create the right conditions under which we can optimise and maximise profitability & synergies of product offerings across VSA through a holistic view on Pricing, Deal Creation & A&R spend while ensuring compliance with any regulatory requirements.
    • The individual will be expected to interact with various stakeholders across the Consumer Business Unit, Vodacom Business Unit and Financial Services Business Unit. The ME’s function is strategic in nature as it controls long-term pricing, profitability, product management and planning on the overall VSA business requirements as well as alignment of the pricing functions within the business units. This role will support that function
       

    Your responsibilities will include:
     

    Key accountabilities and decision ownership:

    • Assist with creation, management and monitoring of principles based pricing governance framework, pricing strategy and regulatory pricing across VSA to assist with main objectives of:
    • Avoiding dilution & cannibalisation effects across product and business units
    • Ensuring competitiveness and relevance in the market
    • Identifying gaps in products, pricing and delivery across BUs to assist in clear roll out Vodacom South Africa strategy
    • Protecting the network
    • Guiding sales structures, commission & multi-product bundling to target right behaviour and agreed strategy
    • Unpacking profitability across products to optimize contribution margins and inform market pricing.
    • Aligning into pricing teams within Consumer Business Unit, Vodacom Business Unit and Financial Services Business Unit.
    • Maintain and manage VSA and Competitor pricing comparisons in as close to real time as possible
    • Assist with BCA approvals and process focusing on market prices, regulatory prices, margin analysis, customer lifetime values, optimized cross product and cross functional value creation
    • Assist with Distribution Commercials to maximize profitability and revenue creation
    • Assist with longer term Income Statement projection analysis at product level focusing on improved predictive capabilities
    • Guide  multi-product bundling to maximise profitability, and ARPAs
    • Ensure principles & governance followed within A&R wrt Deal creation, Efficiency & Intensity Measures, Collars on min and max A&R spend, Discounting rules, Terminals negotiations, Migration Path & Dilution predictive management
    • Support with ongoing tracking, reporting and insights on monthly behaviours of customers , products and campaigns 
    • Working closely with the Stakeholders Product EHODS  on relevant strategic initiatives and drivers for future growth 
    • Work closely with VB and CBU FBP to provide financial models for A&R investment, IBRO revenue and support decision making processes for commercial initiatives

    Communication:

    • Written material must be of the highest quality with clear insights and actions for managemeCommunicate and conduct presentations effectively 
    • Prepare and present performance to pricing, product, sales, finance, trade marketing and marketing teams EHODs

    Core competencies, knowledge and experience:

    • Proficient SQL user is essential
    • Analytical thinking and experience  
    • Proficient user of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint  
    • Experience in other coding languages (Python, R, VB) will be an advantage
    • Reporting and analytical experience essential
    • Understanding of relevant Pricing  practices an advantage
    • Telecoms experience will be an advantage

    Job Knowledge:

    • Previous pricing experience is an advantage
    • Development an in depth understanding of revenues, costs & profitability
    • Understand elasticity and market trends within the various products
    • Advanced skills in Excel, Word and PowerPoint 
    • Advanced SQL skills is essential

    The ideal candidate for this role will have:

    • Relevant BSc. or BCom. Mathematics, Commerce, Statistics, Econometrics or relevant degree. Actuarial skills an advantage
    • Experience in programming (Python; VB; R; Matlab; etc)
    • 2-3 years working experience in Commercial and/or Finance and/or Analytics and/or Pricing- essential
    • Understanding of pricing strategies and principles 
    • Mobile communication experience an advantage

    • Deep understanding of competitive environment and pricing principles
