    Duties:

    Senior Laboratory Technician (P8) - (1305)

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    • Advanced Diploma in Nature Conservation or Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Natural Sciences.
    • Minimum of five years’ experience in conducting fieldwork in freshwater and laboratory experiments in biological.
    • Knowledge of using the South African Scoring System version 5, Macroinvertebrate Response Assessment Index, Fish Response Assessment Index, Riparian Vegetation Response Assessment Index, Index of Habitat Integrity and the Rapid Habitat Assessment Method.
    • A driver’s license is a necessity.

    DUTIES:

    • Assist the module lectures with field trips, ensuring all logistical details are managed effectively.
    • Assist students in the field with correctly using sampling techniques, data collection, and equipment handling.
    • Ensure that all field activities adhere to health and safety protocols and that risk assessments are conducted before fieldwork.
    • Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment and materials.
    • Assist in setting up laboratory experiments.
    • Supervise students in the laboratory, providing guidance on experimental procedures and ensuring safety compliance.
    • Maintain an accurate inventory of all field and laboratory equipment and materials.

    Requirements:

    Professor

    • Doctoral degree in Mercantile or Private Law.
    • Relevant undergraduate degree in either of the fields mentioned above.
    • At least 10 years teaching experience in a tertiary institution or 7 years professional experience in the relevant field.
    • At least 15 articles published in accredited journals, chapters in a book or book publication.
    • Evidence of supervision of at least four Masters/ Doctoral students to completion.
    • Evidence of current grant funding or other third-stream income from external sources and NRF rating will be an added advantage.

    Associate Professor

    • Doctoral degree in Mercantile or Private Law.
    • At least 10 years teaching experience in a tertiary institution or 7 years professional experience in the relevant field.
    • At least 10 articles published in accredited journals, chapters in a book or a book publication.

    Academic route:

    • Doctoral degree in Law.
    • Candidate should be in possession of a Doctor of Laws degree or PHD in Law coupled with five years teaching experience in a higher education institution or seven years relevant professional experience. Candidate should further have three publications in accredited journals or book chapters or a book.

    Professional route:

    • Candidate should be in possession of a Master of Laws degree coupled with an admission as an attorney or advocate.
    • Candidates admitted as an attorney must attach proof of admission as an attorney and candidates who are admitted as advocates must attach proof of admission into the pupillage.
    •  Candidate should also have ten (10) years post-admission practice experience. 
    • Candidates appointed through the professional route will be appointed on a five-year contract basis with the provision that the appointment will be converted to permanent upon attainment of a Doctoral degree within the five-year period of appointment.

    Duties
