    Senior Civil Technician - Saiccor Mill, Umkomaas

    As Senior Civil Technician, you will be responsible for:

    • Plan yearly civil shutdown work, maintenance work, work orders, and breakdowns within a section of responsibility as per mill standards and procedures
    • Monitor contractor productivity and schedule performance 
    • Evaluate the structural stability of factory buildings, roads, effluent, and drainage through visual assessments
    • Assist in developing engineering specifications and drawings for maintenance works
    • Monitor the erection, installation, and commissioning of civil works ensuring all mill and safety standards are adhered to
    • Document all changes to specifications, work scope, and drawings timeously and accurately
    • Monitor and control civil maintenance expenditure and cost reporting on planned budget spent
    • Maintain and understand the SHEQ requirements within the area of responsibility to ensure compliance with statutory legislation and codes of practice

    What are we looking for?

    • Minimum NQF level 7 qualification (B. Tech in Civil Engineering while B. Tech in Structures would be preferred)
    • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience within heavy industry
    • Construction Management experience would be considered advantageous
    • Computer Literacy (MS Office) with SAP knowledge will be advantageous

    Electrician - Stanger Mill

    As an Electrician you will be responsible for:

    • Performing electrical maintenance or remedial work according to SAP notifications, work orders and planned schedules, including during shuts.
    • Completing notifications and work orders on the SAP system.
    • Fault finding on electrical systems during breakdown and effect the required repairs to keep downtime to a minimum. Participate in failure analysis.
    • Completing daily and weekly inspections on electrical systems and their components according to a detailed checklist. Identify repairs required and recommend preventative maintenance to the foreman.
    • Drawing required spares from Stores using the SAP picking list.
    • Assisting production personnel with isolation processes on request.

    What are we looking for?

    • Grade 12 plus N2 Electrical Engineering or Millwright
    • Recognised Electrician or Millwright Trade Test Certificate
    • N3 Electrical Engineering or Millwright would be an advantage
    • Sappi Internal Artisan Development Program or Apprenticeship would be advantage
    • 3 years experience post trade as an Artisan in Electrical would be an advantage 
    • SAP experience in a manufacturing industry would be an advantage
    • Valid driver’s licence would be an advantage
    • The ability to work under pressure while following all procedures and standards

    Process Controller : Steam - Tugela Mill

    As an Process Controller : Steam, you will be responsible for:

    • Takes and hand over shift.
    • Implement Foreman’s shift plan by carrying out and delegating tasks to achieve Steam, Air and Water requirements.
    • Implement the production activities to sustain quality standards and plant efficiency.
    • Participates in team problem solving and production program development in order to determine root cause of problems.
    • Monitors operations of Ash plant, Grit refiring, Soot blowers, Hydroseals, Boiler fans and fires by routine inspections.
    • Controls Boiler drum level to prevent low or high water damage, by observing recording charts and eye high gauges, standby gauge glass and manually making adjustments as required.
    • Ensures coal supply, by checking coal bunkers and controls stoker coal feeder, grate speed, and temperatures to suit observed boiler bed/fire conditions.
    • Ensures that Ash, Coal, Water samples are taken on request for each boiler.
    • Prepares Boiler before lighting the fire by physically carrying out a prestart check according to Best Operating Practice.
    • Starts boiler by raising the temperature and pressure to manufacturer’s specifications and according to Best Operating Practice.
    • Banks Boiler when steam is not required by controlling coal supply, air and water to maintain the Boiler at just below working pressure, until the demand for steam is increased at which point the Boiler must be ranged within 10 minutes.
    • Shuts down Boiler as per manufacturer’s specifications and according to
    • Best Operating Practice and checklist.
    • Records hourly readings on Lims or a log sheet, from which he observes and interprets the data and takes action as required.
    • Prevents damage to the Boiler in emergency conditions such as feed water variation, power failure, air failure and bad fire conditions, by taking all necessary actions.
    • Liaises with maintenance department and raise notifications (via SAP) to carry out all minor as well as major repairs to plant.
    • Ensures the safe sampling of Boiler water for analysis, and complies with the required blow down of Boiler drums to control Boiler water specifications.
    • Ensures the safe operation of the Gas Fired Boilers and regularly monitors gas pressure.
    • Changes stoker V- Belts when required.
    • Monitor and Control the running of the Compressors, to maintain air supply to the Mill.
    • Monitor and Control the steam reducing stations (Kalle/Hagan)
    • Monitor and Control the De Super Heating requirements of steam
    • Monitor and Control domestic water to compressors as cooling medium.
    • Monitor and Control Ash pit levels.
    • Addresses all Steam, Air and Water related queries.
    • Provide accurate information/ inputs for the production statistics and appropriate action taken.
    • Completes SAP notifications for maintenance requests in accordance with business process standards.
    • Identify inefficiencies in Best Operating Practices and propose changes.
    • Completes Isolation procedure as & when requested from Eng./Production/Contractors.
    • Completes spill reports (environmental).
    • Ensures a safe working environment with the development of safety and housekeeping strategies.
    • Ensures that the Section complies in all respects with the relevant.

    What are we looking for?

    • Minimum experience 6 months plant operations Experience
    • Matric plus N3 Pulp and Paper Certificate (4 subjects)
    • N4 to N6 Pulp and Paper / Boiler Certificate will advantageous

    Capacity Planner (Stanger Mill)

    As a Capacity Planner you will be responsible for:

    • Manage and finalise the ‘7 day rolling frozen plan’ by monitoring the daily production performance versus production plan and providing feedback to the Supply Planner.
    • Coordinate and control production plan based on changing sales/production requirements and convert orders for production by making use of SAP.
    • Update system and maintain production performance measures in accordance with the budget and ensure Supply Planner is updated.
    • Monitor and advise on optimal deckle solution to Sales Managers (From future orders, stock items, standard deckle sizes and consult Sales Managers) on a weekly basis.
    • Identify free stock reduction opportunities as part of block preparation.
    • Identifying and report deckle improvement opportunities to Sales and Planning Manager to ensure machine and cost efficiencies weekly. 
    • Replicate production plan in SAP and MES (Mill Execution System) as received from Supply Planner and implement machine plan to production accordingly.
    • Analyse and manage open orders, identify backlog orders and action appropriately by reviewing production requirements
    • Maintain Production Master Data on a monthly basis.
    • Supporting and execution of material creation along with the Sales and Planning manager 

    What are we looking for?

    • Diploma in Supply Chain Management or relevant qualification
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in production/operations/inventory planning
    • SAP – APO Modules advantageous
    • MES experience advantageous

    Mechanician: Instrumentation - Tugela Mill

    As an Instruments Mechanician, you will be responsible for:

    • Installs, commissions, modifies and maintains instrument
    • installations and DCS equipment by the application of engineering expertise and skills in order to satisfy Engineering and Production standards and requirements.
    • Optimises by loop tuning, investigates and fault-finds process controls systems (DCS) by the application of engineering skills, process plant and process control knowledge so as to maintain performance requirements of such systems.
    • Removes defective instruments from system, decontaminates, disassembles, and cleans instruments, and replaces defective parts, using hand tools.
    • Reassembles instruments and replaces instruments in system, using hand tools.
    • Calibrates readings on instruments according to standards and adjusts phasing and aligns stages to ensure accuracy of recording and indicating function.
    • Records calibrations made, parts and components used, and inventory of parts on hand.
    • Prepares schematic drawings, sketches, and reports to reflect changes or alterations made in instruments, circuits, and systems.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
    • Required to work standby and overtime as required.
    • Understands the SHEQ requirements of the Section.
    • Monitor subordinate’s performance against SHEQ requirements
    • and corrects non-conformances.
    • Investigates incidents (SHEQ) and identify root causes of Non Conformances and corrects deviations.
    • Maintains a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all time.

    What are we looking for?

    • Full N3
    • Instrument Trade Test Certificate.
    • Minimum 3 years’ plant operations experience .
    • Computer Literate (MS Office Package)
    • SAP knowledge will be advantageous.

    Admin Assistant - Projects and Development - Ngodwana Mill

    As an Administrative Assistant, you will be responsible for:

    • Maintain and manage the drawing system and workflow, including scheduling work orders and tracking drawings sent to the plant.
    • Administer the drawing backlog and ensure timely printing of paper and film copies for routing and approval.
    • Capture and file software and electronic information into the drawing database, maintaining records and archives.
    • Confirm completion of works orders in SAP, file completed works orders, and manage the technical library.
    • Assist with database administration, software blueprint creation, user logons, and password resets.
    • Coordinate training for drawing and information database users and provide plant assistance as needed.
    • Support office administration tasks such as stationery ordering, printer maintenance, and cost transfers to the accounts department.

    Required Minimum Qualifications:

    • Completed Grade 12 / Relevant NQF level 4.
    • A minimum of 1 year experience as an Administrator.
    • MS Office.

    Process Engineer - Stanger Mill

    As a Process Engineer, you will be responsible for

    • Processing development and optimisation.
    • Managing projects from inception to implementation including commissioning of new equipment.
    • Updating, publish and communicate process flow diagrams, process and instrumentation diagrams, functional design specifications and mass and energy balances.
    • Updating product specifications for the area and communicate to plant personnel.

    • Registration as a Professional Engineer is an added advantage.
    • SAP experience preferred.

    Winder Operator NP - Ngodwana Mill

    as Winder Operator NP, you will assist the Winderman with the following tasks:

    • Prepares equipment for start-up and shutdown procedures.
    • Operates Overhead crane to load reels onto unwind stand.
    • Sets up and checks slitter knives, ensuring they are sharp and undamaged, as well as inspecting drive drums and motors.
    • Feeds paper through Winder machine.
    • Removes side runs using OTIS lift to basement.
    • Ensures availability of correct-sized cores at Winder during shift.

    Maintenance Manager - Electrical - Ngodwana Mill

    As a Maintenance Manager - Electrical, you will be responsible for/to: 

    • Participate in developing and executing the Mill maintenance and improvement strategy to ensure equipment availability and efficiency.
    • Accountable to provide Mill wide service in engineering installation, maintenance plan, and fault finding on DCS, QCS, and VSD Drives.
    • Accountable for the integrity of the protection on the 132kV yard and 11kV electrical power reticulation system.
    • Accountable for Mill wide engineering, fault-finding, and maintenance plans on all hydraulic installations.
    • Accountable for control of instrument valve repairs, during normal Mill operations and Mill shutdowns (Instrument Valve Workshop).

    • Accountable for the development and maintenance of the relevant Mill document reliability and standards.

    • Accountable for Mill-wide identification of reliability risks, improvement programs, and implementation.
    • Accountable for Mill wide electrical engineering support for Capex and Renewal project implementation.
    • Responsible for the identification and management of relevant major upgrade projects.
    • Represent the Mill in regional standardisation processes.
    • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment through compliance with legal regulations and mill procedures (e.g. OHS Act, ISO systems)
    • Effectively direct electrical engineering and project team members, in terms of performance management, talent management, goal alignment, career development, and learning.
    • Compile and implement annual (electrical budget) and participate in long-term (5-year plan) financial business plans to execute the maintenance and improvement strategy.

    What are we looking for?

    • 4 Year B degree in Sciences or Engineering or National Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering (heavy current), with Recognition of Previous Learning or experience
    • Government Certificate of Competence (Factories)
    • Relevant management qualification 
    • Registration as a professional engineer would be advantageous
    • Relevant experience 8-10 years
    • Pulp and Paper Industry experience advantageous

    Effluent Operator - Ngodwana Mill

    As a Effluent Operator, you will be responsible for:

    • Operate sludge removal system continuously.
    • Check bar screen and report if cleaning is required.
    • Backwash sludge pumps and clarifies as necessary.
    • Take samples to Laboratory.
    • Check condition of auto-samplers.
    • Changes basket strainers as required.
    • Operates plant when Senior Operator checks storm water outlets. 
    • Clean TETS and ED’s when necessary.
    • Reports all defects (plant in general) to the senior operator.
    • Operates scum removal system after hours.
    • Issue lock out permit when instructed by Effluent plant senior operator.

    Required Minimum Qualifications:

    • Completed Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science subjects / N3 Pulp and Paper / N3 Engineering studies.
    • Minimum 3 months Water and Waste Water Treatment experience would be advantageous.
