    Senior Clinical Operations Lead

    The Position

    Roche Pharma in Johannesburg has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Clinical Operations Lead who will be responsible for providing leadership and regional / local strategic planning and  operational delivery of assigned clinical studies through all the phases of study management (Preparation, study start-up, conduct, close-out). This will be done in accordance with Roche quality standards, all applicable regulations, timelines and budget commitments.

    To be a part of a combination of sub-communities that comprise the larger Clinical Operations Community at Roche, participate in or lead Work Product Teams and enable clinical trial delivery in a broad flow approach with a focus on delivering value for patients,  investigators and the clinical site!

    Key Challenges:

    • Lead and contribute to clinical trials or enabling project teams.
    • Drive continuous improvement and change management activities.
    • Strategically lead collaboration across the team and other functions.
    • Ensure adherence to ICH, & SA GCP and regulatory guidelines.
    • Maintain a strong working knowledge of Clinical Operations and drug development.
    • Understand the impact of team decisions on other parts of the business.
    • Identify vendors, build relationships and ensure their performance.
    • Anticipate the external environment for operationalizing clinical trials.
    • Influence and shape the clinical trial landscape for long-term success.
    • Provide subject matter expertise across operationally strategic activities.
    • Contribute to sub-communities within the larger Clinical Operations Community.
    • Drive patient-centricity throughout clinical operations and drive the evolution of global clinical operations.
    • Inspire and empower talent across Clinical Operations and the Roche family in the spirit of one Roche.
    • Proactively manage and align with stakeholders to achieve the Pharma Vision.

    This challenging role requires the following qualification, experience and skills:

    • University degree or equivalent; preferably in medical/science –related field.
    • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in clinical research/development or related industry experience with a strong working knowledge of Clinical Operations and drug development or related expertise with experience in leading cross-functional study teams in clinical research.
    • Whilst this is an individual contributor role, previous experience in people/line management is a plus. A career path as CRA, Project Lead/Manager, Start-up professional will be a key added advantage.
    • Required knowledge: Good understanding of ICH GCP and SA GCP, as well as quality standards related to study management, operational knowledge of clinical development, including vendor/CRO resource management and risk management.
    • Required skills: Proficient problem-solving skills through thorough analysis of information,Competency in project management, including risk management and budget planning, Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, with strong self-motivation and achievement orientation, Proficiency in budget negotiation and tracking for study conduct.
    •  Required to be a team player with strong collaboration skills.

    Patient Journey Partner - Hemophilia & Non Malignant

    The Position

    Roche in Johannesburg has a vacancy for a Patient Journey Partner, Hemophilia and Non Malignant.

    As a Patient Journey Partner (PJP) you will be directly accountable to deliver better outcomes for patients, their community, the ecosystem and the organisation, faster.

    By knowing the ecosystem well and establishing partner relations with collaborators you will be able to identify the true needs and opportunities which allow patient journey improvements. The focus for the PJP is on solutions that directly improve the patient journey

    You as our successful candidate will be an empowered leader and the local face of Roche. You will partner closely with all stakeholders directly touching the patient journey (in a given therapeutic or disease area), gaining a deep understanding of their needs to connect Roche’s capabilities to co-create meaningful solutions.

    This role is locally embedded in the ecosystem, it is an integrated role, functionally agnostic, (i.e. it does not fit into the traditional concepts of Commercial/Sales or Medical Affairs)

    It has no profitability, sales objectives or incentives.

    Key Challenges:

    • You will have the decision-making authority to request resources of Roche (both within the affiliate and broader network) to have an improved impact on the patient journey.
    • You will focus on the importance of bringing the outside in, working with partners to uncover all potential opportunities to transform outcomes for patients, faster. You willalso bring the inside out, to bring Roche expertise, science and knowledge to the ecosystem.
    • Act as a trusted partner and be the primary (but non-exclusive) point of contact between stakeholders and Roche; share the patient and stakeholder community needs internally, prioritize and secure resources and drive solutions that deliver outcomes faster.
    • Partner with patient journey stakeholders to remove roadblocks and unlock possibilities to deliver value for patients and the community.
    • Steward Roche’s products through their lifecycle and support their appropriate use, which includes sharing their merits with Healthcare professionals in a truthful and balanced manner.
    • Oversee the patient journey in its entirety, you will act as a system thinker with the ability to identify shared purpose among stakeholders. You will be empowered to pull in expertise and resources locally and from the network as needed, including in collaboration with other PJPs.
    • Ensuring great experiences whenever stakeholders in the ecosystem engage with Roche employees, products and services.

    Who you are as our ideal candidate:

    You demonstrate personal purpose in improving the patient journey, as well as a strong passion to bring value and impact to the healthcare ecosystem. Thanks to your system thinking abilities, you oversee patient journeys in their entirety and you demonstrate the shared purposes of stakeholders to co-create solutions within the ecosystem.

    You are a true visionary, defining and embedding the strategy around creating better health outcomes for more patients faster, bringing a strong entrepreneurial mentality with outstanding partnering capabilities (coaching, consulting, ability to deeply listen, question and understand).

    • Required Qualification: You have a University degree/NQF 7 (scientific, economic, or business degree). An advanced degree in Life science and/or MBA is a plus.
    • Required Experience: You have 3 – 5 years of experience in the Pharma Industry ideally with related therapeutic area experience (Hemophilia and Non Malignant) and in the commercial space with deep knowledge of patient journeys and disease treatments. A understanding of Roche's portfolio, medical affairs and digital innovation methodologies is also required.
