    Tax Accountant - Homechoice (Southern Suburbs (Cape))

    Description

    • The ideal candidate is a recent B-Comm (or similar) graduate willing to immerse themselves into the role, eager to learn and able to work independently within a deadline driven environment.
    • The candidate will be responsible for ensuring the day-to-day compliance with all tax laws and regulations – but with an initial focus / specialisation  on value-added taxation.

    What you will love doing in this role

    Value-added taxation (VAT)

    • Checking transactions (on a sample basis) for VAT compliance
    • Preparation and submission of monthly VAT returns
    • Prepare monthly VAT reconciliations and summaries
    • Reconciling VAT control accounts and accounting for VAT transactions
    • Assist with annual VAT apportionment calculations
    • Prepare adjusting journals for changes in VAT liabilities
    • Assist in responding to SARS VAT audits / requests for information
    • Monitor correspondence with SARS ensuring all requests gets addressed timeously
    • Monitor tax compliance status on SARS e-filing
    • Assistance with preparation of year end audit schedules and requests from external auditors

    Other

    • Monitor correspondence with SARS
    • Monitor tax compliance status on SARS e-filing
    • Work with the tax manager in meeting his/her obligations, including assistance with:
    • Preparation of provisional tax calculations
    • Preparation of income tax returns and supporting schedules
    • Monthly management reports
    • Assistance with preparation of year end audit schedules
    • Assistance with requests from external auditors
    • Ad-hoc requests / investigations

    Requirements
    What you'll need to do this role

    • B-Comm (or equivalent national diploma in accounting)
    • Advantageous: specific tax qualifications
    • 1- 2 years' experience in a finance role
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
    • Analytical skills
    • Experience of SARS e-filing
    • Knowledge and understanding of Value-added tax legislation
    • Knowledge and understanding of broader South African Tax legislation

    Tax Manager - Homechoice (Southern Suburbs (Cape))

    Description

    • The candidate will be accountable for ensuring the group’s compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations for both direct and indirect taxes. Additionally, they will oversee the daily implementation of the group’s tax strategy and policies to ensure effective management of tax-related risks.

    What you will love doing in this role

    General

    • Ensuring compliance with indirect and direct tax legislation and changes in requirements, understanding and interpreting of relevant legislation and analysing the impact on the Group.
    • Control tax compliance register and tax risk register
    • Provide tax advice to the finance team
    • Be involved in projects with tax implications
    • Manage SARS audits and requests for information

    Corporate Tax

    • Preparation and processing of monthly current and deferred tax for management accounting purposes.
    • Preparation of the group’s provisional and year-end tax computations.
    • Preparation of income tax, provisional tax and dividends tax returns and supporting schedules.

    Indirect Taxes

    • Review the VAT and withholding tax computations, reconciliations, reasonability tests and returns.
    • Review of annual VAT apportionment calculations. 
    • Management of SARS Customs deferment account.

    Other

    • Review of quarterly IT14SD reconciliations.
    • Provide input into the annual budget and quarterly budget refresh process on all tax related matters
    • Preparation of the group’s income and deferred tax separate and consolidated interim and annual financial statements disclosure.
    • Preparation of monthly tax reports for internal finance review.
    • Preparation of quarterly group tax packs.

    Requirements

    What you'll need to do this role

    • B-Comm (or equivalent) with proven work experience in taxation
    • Advantageous: CA (SA) and / or have advanced tax qualifications (such as Dip Tax / Masters)
    • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a tax department or tax consulting position
    • Good knowledge and understanding of South African Tax legislation
    • Working experience of SARS e-filing
    • Strong MS Office Skills (particularly excel)
    • Analytical skills
    • Experience in liaising with SARS and resolving queries
    • Experience of cross-border transactions and tax reporting thereof

    Drive Operational Efficiencies

    • Financial stock take planning and execution
    • Ensure Showroom Processes (Inventory, Receiving and Frontline) are adhered to and aligned to legal regulations
    • Ensure Showroom merchandise is aligned to current catalogue product offering
    • Ensure products are visually merchandised as per the guidelines
    • Ensure stock is managed by ensuring accurate receipting and maintenance of floor stock
    • Manage the productivity of the Showroom in all areas and drive sales

    Stock Management

    • Ensure efficient stock control process to allow the store to have the right amount of stock in the right place at the right time

    • The size and number of surpluses and deficiencies revealed by stocktaking to be shared with ROM and Head of Showrooms to measure the efficiency of the storekeeping, control and procedures in general.

    Cash Management

    • Ensure efficient cash handling process (counting, recounting,
    • reconciling discrepancies, making deposits)
    • Investigate cash shrinkage, counterfeit currencies, safe and bank discrepancies
    • Reduce cash exposure to avoid robberies/Burglaries
    • Track cash flow between POS and safe

    People Management    

    • Conduct adequate training on the internal controls. Build knowledge and understanding of risks in store.  Provide coaching and guidance to ensure maximum efficiency and compliance.

    • Ensure staff is trained adequately on Occupational Health and Safety methods and accident/incident prevention to be effective in preventing mishaps in the workshop.
    • Ensure the Occupational Health and Safety training is undertaken by accredited training institutions and trainers and refresher courses conducted periodically as per the requirements set out by the OHASA Laws and Regulations.
    • Asset Register
    • Ensure store have a detailed list compiled of all business assets
    • Ensure stores record the movement of assets
    • Implement control sheets to monitor movements of electronic devices such as Ipads, pargo devices

    Requirements
