    Operations Manager : Substations & Renewables - OptiPower

    Key Performance Indicators :
     

    • Lead and oversee the project and construction management of electrical substations, ensuring smooth functioning and adherence to construction standards.
    • Develop and implement department, operational and construction strategies to optimize substation build performance and reliability.
    • Provide leadership and guidance to substation project management teams, fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability.

    Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
    • Develop and implement safety procedures and protocols to mitigate risks and prevent accidents in substation operations.

    Key Responsibilities :

    Direct, oversee and manage the following activities via the various allocated project managers: 

    • Ensure Project managers understanding, management and administration of the various contracts.
    • Ensure that progress, delays and any other events/situations, which might influence the program and costs are communicated timeously to Management
    • Ensure Project managers develop a cost-effective plan and schedule for completion of project following a logical pattern for utilization of resources
    • Ensure Project managers minimize exposure and risk by implementing and audits safety standards and quality assurance controls
    • Oversee project managers, reviews their reports, checks on any reported difficulties, and corrects any safety violations or other reported deficiencies
    • Ensure Project managers tracks and controls construction schedule and associated costs to achieve completion of projects within time and monies allocated
    • Ensure Project managers report to stakeholders and managers about progress and any necessary modifications of plans that seem indicated. Plans, implements, tracks and closeout construction projects
    • Manages day to day operations of the substation department
    • Ensure Project managers generate and issues timely internal and external project reporting on company templates
    • Conduct site checks to monitor progress as well as safety and quality standards and implementation of the quality and safety plan (Visible Felt Leadership)
    • Provide guidance and support to project managers on their projects
    • Review contractual communication and notices on all projects
    • Ensure a uniform project management system is maintained

    Minimum requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Master's degree preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of electrical substations, power systems, and related equipment.
    • Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience managing teams and driving operational excellence.
    • Proficiency in safety regulations, standards, and best practices applicable to substation operations.
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively liaise with internal teams, clients, and regulatory authorities.
    • Proven ability to troubleshoot and solve complex technical problems under pressure.
    • Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) is a plus.

    Experience 

    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in substation operations management or related field, within the energy sector
    • Outdoor Substation : 132/400/765 KV
    • Wind and PV Renewables ( Advantageous )

    Lead Shaftsman 2

    Job description

    Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

    • Effective team supervision to achieve drilling and blasting targets during a shaft in line with legal appointment and M&RC’s shaft sinking methodology, standards, procedures and safety protocols
    • Effective and safe shaft mucking, shaft lining extension, marking-off and drilling during a shift
    • Manage resources effectively, ensure labour and equipment are used optimally to achieve targets within cost and production requirements
    • Quality assure productivity and complete daily progress reports, reporting of abnormal conditions and logbooks required for legal and control purposes
    • Conduct daily toolbox meetings with crew
    • Coach, train and performance manage crew, motivate and take corrective / disciplinary actions as required
    • Self and team understand and comply with M&RC standards, procedures, policies and safety protocols
    • Proactive hazard and risk identification and mitigation
    • Participate in workplace accident investigations
    • Effective self and team management in alignment with M&RC values and leadership initiatives
    • Installation of service infrastructure

    Minimum requirements

    Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

    • Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent
    • Blasting and Onsetter Certificate of Competency
    • Recognised Shift Supervisor Certificate in Planning, Leading, Organising and Control
    • Valid Medical certificate of Fitness
    • Covid- 19 Coronavirus Vaccination Certificate [Site Specific]

    Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

    • Minimum 5 Years experience in an underground mining environment at Shift Supervisor level
    • At least 2 years of supervisory experience in a vertical shaft
    • Exposure to acting as a Shift Supervisor would be advantageous

    Site Project Manager: EBOP Windfarm - OptiPower

    Key Responsibilities:  

    • Ensure understanding, management and administration of the contract
    • Ensure that progress, delays and any other events, which might influence the program and costs are communicated timeously to Management
    • Develop a cost-effective plan and schedule for completion of project following a logical pattern for utilization of resources
    • Submit and manage monthly progress payments to the client
    • Minimise exposure and risk by implementing audits of safety standards and quality assurance controls
    • Coordinate work of subcontractors working on various phases of the project
    • Oversee performance of all trade contractors and reviews all issued drawings to make sure that all specifications and regulations are being followed
    • Ensure proper administration of construction contracts and for obtaining all necessary permits and licenses.
    • Supervise team, reviews their reports, checks on any reported difficulties, and correct any safety violations or other reported deficiencies
    • Track and control construction schedule and associated costs to achieve completion of projects within time and monies allocated
    • Manage day to day operational and tactical aspects of the project
    • Accurately forecast revenue, profitability and project costs
    • Proactively identifies changes in project scope and ensures appropriate measures are taken
    • Integrate process between subcontractors, suppliers and construction team
    • Develop and execute a procurement plan
    • Handle any environmental or local community issues that may come up during a project
    • Conduct site checks to monitor progress as well as safety and quality standards and implementations

    Minimum requirements

    Competency Profile

    Qualifications :

    • Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent B-Tech
    • A project management qualification
    • SACPCMP Certification advantageous
    • Construction Regulations Certificate
    • This is a site-based role

    Skills & Experience:

    • Minimum 10 years Project Management experience in a relevant site-based industry, with at least 5 years Renewable Energy experience, EBOP Windfarm construction required.
    • Experience of Project Financing Process and Requirements
    • Previous experience of managing projects through the financial, planning, procurement and construction processes
    • Experience of managing of minimum 100 staff members
    • Administrative skills (MS Projects, Word, Excel, Power Point & JD Edwards)

    Project Manager Shaft Sinking

    The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

    • Utilise strategic, management and technical skills to plan, delegate, control, and monitor tasks through to project delivery in line with M&RC’s project management framework.
    • Safe achievement of production and financial targets to client’s and M&RC’s standards
    • Manage and schedule mining / construction activities to project scope, ensure team understands original scope.
    • Monitor and maintain critical path and project status on MS Projects

    • Enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of work practices and systems by optimizing all available resources, i.e., people, technology, finance, and systems.

    • Minimum 5 years of operational project management experience in a similar position in a metalliferous, mining environment, with experience as a 2.6.1 legal appointee in a Shaft sinking and Shaft Equipping project.
    • Experience successfully managing industrial relations and union community engagement in a highly unionised environment.
    • Sound knowledge and understanding of one or more specific areas as required for the project (Shaft Sinking, Equipping Capital Development, Contract Mining, Trackless Mechanised Mining, Board and Pillar mining, Hard rock production etc.
    • Working knowledge of Project Management principles, frameworks, methodologies, and system requirements, with proven depth of experience in project management i.e., meeting project deadlines, achieving financial targets and commercial entitlements
    • Knowledge of CCS [Construction Computer Software] and managing allowable and certificates
    • Experience leading a multidisciplinary team

    Mine Planner Projects Senior

    The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

    • Adhering to company policies and procedures and also comply to Health and Safety requirements 
    • Responsible for medium to long term planning
    • 3D mine design and system integration
    • Effectively interface/integrate activities/delays pertaining to the shafts levels to meet project deliverables
    • Plan and monitor critical milestone on projects plan and inform stakeholders of any changes and opportunities
    • Prepare sensitivity studies and scenario planning
    • Prepare and update the long term and life of mine plans
    • Report monthly on variations of actual projects plans to business plans and provide solutions to realign to project plan
    • Receive summarised daily reports from Mine Planners and Surveys for incorporation into long term plan and inform M&RC and Client accordingly
    • Receive Geologist reports and incorporate into the mine plan
    • Identification and monitoring of critical constrains
    • Effective self-management and alignment with M&RC values and leadership initiatives 

    Minimum requirements

    Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

    • Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 equivalent
    • Mine Engineering National Diploma / Degree (advantageous)
    • Advanced Survey Certificate/Valuation Certificate (not essential if degreed)
    • Mine Overseer Certificate of Competency (preferred)
    • Mineral Resources Management (advantageous)
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Projects, Word & PowerPoint)
    • Covid- 19 Coronavirus Vaccination Certificate [Site Specific]

    Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

    • At least 8 years of experience in underground trackless mining / shaft sinking / mine development
    • Hands-on underground, metalliferous mine design experience in a 3D environment
    • Experience in medium and long term scenario planning and reporting thereon
    • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams
