    Senior Mining Engineer

    Job Description:

    The purpose of the role is to ensure the Safe, Efficient and Cost controlled execution of the mine and project plan through the oversight, contribution to and delivery of timely long-term mine planning and scheduling outputs.  Establish systems, standards and processes to support delivery of best practice mine planning, scheduling and technical support of mining operations

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

    • Lead by example – Seek opportunities to systematically support efforts in leading and improving safety in all areas of our business.
    • Life-of-Mine conceptual and preliminary Designs and Scheduling
    • Preparation of Annual Life-of-Mine Mine Designs and Schedules
    • Monitor and track operational execution against mine plans.
    • Capital costing and infrastructure plans for mine expansion projects.
    • Integration of Long-term strategies with medium and short-term operating plans.
    • Preparation of Ore Reserve documentation.
    • Liaise with Exploration and Geology departments on diamond drilling targets and strategic resource drilling plans.
    • Provide technical support and mentoring to mining engineers and assist in developing capability.

    Qualifications:

    The successful incumbent must meet the following criteria:

    • Expertise must have been obtained from a formal qualification in Mining Engineering or other relevant discipline.
    • Mine Managers Certificate of Competence or have the experience necessary to qualify.
    • Experience in practical underground mine design.
    • Experience in simulation methods for the optimisation of mining plans.
    • Technical experience in large-scale, trackless caving operations.
    • Operations experience in trackless, mechanised mines.
    • Sufficient knowledge of underground, caving, diamondiferous operations to contribute to the preparation of Ore Reserve documents.

    REQUIRED SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE:

    • Track record of translating ideas into practical initiatives to be implemented and demonstration of successful execution and delivery of underground mine planning strategies for individual mine operations.
    • Expert Deswik and EPS software user
    • Broad knowledge of underground mine safety standards
    • Demonstrated ability to convert strategic corporate plans into executable mining plans.
    • Demonstrated ability to consider short, medium- and long-term consequences of proposed changes to processes.
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate mine plans to all levels of the organisation from corporate to site employees.
    • Deep understanding of how all the technical and operational disciplines contribute to a unified plan. Significant knowledge in the fields of ventilation, survey, geology and geotechnical engineering.
    • Knowledge of safety policies, procedures and the important role of consistently demonstrating required behaviours and championing safety values.

    Senior Mechanical Engineering Officer

    Job Description:

    The purpose of the job is to Coordinate the mechanical maintenance/project activities of the Inport Team to ensure a safe operation at optimum availability at the lowest cost according to operational requirements.  Provide engineering and maintenance support as part of a team responsible for the Project Management of Vessel maintenance and capital construction during Inport periods onboard De Beers Marine’s vessels.  In addition, it is a requirement to provide a technical support function while the fleet of vessels operates at sea.

    Qualifications:

    Formal qualifications:

    • Relevant Engineering / B Tech Engineering Degree or National Diploma(N6) with linked trade or Equivalent in Engineering Qualifications

    Skills and Knowledge:

    • Min 5 years post qualification engineering experience, preferably in the ship repair engineering environment (Experience in ship repair structural, plate & pipe maintenance processes – Preferred)

    OR

    • Min 5 years post qualification engineering experience, preferably in the marine mining and/or hydraulic environment

    OR

    • Min 5 years post qualification engineering experience, preferably in the mining & processing environment. Experience in structural, plate & pipe maintenance processes an advertence.

    Above mentioned experience - In combination with the following:

    • Min 5 years managing a maintenance/project work team.
    • Experience on work team/contractor project management. Contractor management an advantage
    • Experience on work team/contractor budget control
    • Experience on work team/contractor safety & health management an advantage
    • General computer literacy in the MS Suite is essential.
    • Experience in offshore engineering an advantage
