    Research Medical Doctor

    Description: 

    • The purpose of the position is to provide medical care for participants enrolled in clinical trials at AHRI Somkhele. The position will be based primarily in our Somkhele site but might require travel to the clinics and or hospitals according to study protocol. The incumbent will be responsible for supervising clinical staff that support the clinical trial; ensure all assigned activities occur according to the protocol and standard operating procedures; ensure appropriate use and allocation of clinical/material resources; interact effectively with a wide range of stakeholders; ensure that all study data is collected according to protocol requirements and align with the AHRI scientific strategy

    Overview of Duties:

    • Planning, coordination, implementation of studies or clinical trial conducted under the clinical trials unit
    • Ensure tracking of all study activities, patient recruitment, clinical care and follow-up.
    • Supporting PIs to ensure that the clinical trial is compliant with DOH, GCP and SAHPRA requirements and ensure the smooth running of research
    • Liaising with key stakeholders, including DOH and internal stakeholders
    • Providing strategic support for the planning, administration, and operations of all studies or clinical trials

    Minimum Qualifications

    • . Completed medical degree (MBChB)
    •  Completed Internship and Community service
    •  Registered with the HPCSA
    •  Computer Literacy (MS Office – Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
    •  Valid Drivers’ Licence
    •  Fluency in English

    Minimum Experience

    • At least 3 - 5 years related experience

    Administrative Officer

    Overview of Duties:

    Brief Overview of Duties:

    • Provide general administrative support to SANTHE.
    • Assist with maintaining databases. 
    • Assist with the recruitment of students and fellows. 
    • Assist with the design of adverts, news events, presentations, handbooks. 
    • Order materials and supplies when needed. 
    • Assist with the preparation and planning for courses/workshops including logistics, travel bookings, booking of venues, catering, distribution of training materials or source documents, compiling registers, evaluations, feedback etc. 
    • Assist with the setting up seminars which includes the booking of the venue, work with IT for the virtual set up, register maintenance, catering etc. 
    • Assist with capturing and compiling meeting notes, generating forms, evaluations, documenting trainee/fellow feedback. 
    • Assist with capturing and maintaining trainee fellow publications. 
    • General assistance to SANTHE.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Relevant tertiary qualification, i.e. National Diploma or Degree.
    • Training in project management, office administration or financial administration or equivalent.

    Minimum Experience:

    • Minimum of 3 years in an administrative role
    • Previous experience working in a research environment

    Car Washer

    Overview of Duties:

    • Car Washer is responsible for ensuring that all vehicles from the field are washed, refuelled and to attend to other break downs in the field. The position will be based in our Somkhele site.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Matric or senior certificate
    • Must Possess a valid South African Code C1 driver's License with at least 1 year driving experience

    • Hands on experience in managing and working with car washing equipment and chemicals

    Senior Data Engineer

    Overview of Duties:

    Overview of Duties

    • Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end technical aspects of all data pipelines required to support the research scientists and data managers
    • Support ETL processes including, data ingestion, transformation, validation, and integration processes using various tools and frameworks
    • Optimize data performance, scalability, and security
    • Provide technical guidance and support to data analysts and research scientists.
    • Design data integrations and data quality frameworks
    • Work and collaborate with the rest of the IT department to help develop the strategy for long-term scientific Big Data platform architecture
    • Document and effectively communicate data engineering processes and solutions.
    • Make use of and help define the right cutting-edge technology, processes and tools needed to drive technology within our science and research data
    • management departments.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
    • ndustry recognized IT related certification and technology qualification such as Databases and Data related certifications.
    • This is a technical role so a strong focus needs to be on technical skills and experience

    Minimum Experience

    • 7+ years’ experience in a Data Engineering, High Performance Computing, Data Warehousing, Big Data Processing
    • Strong experience with high performance computing environments including Unix, Docker, Kubernetes, Hadoop, Kafka, Nifi, or Spark or Cloud-based big data processing environments like Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery and Azure Synapse Analytics
    • At least 5 years’ advanced experience and very strong proficiency in UNIX, Linux, Windows
    • Knowledge of various data related programming, scripting or data engineering tools such as Python, R, Julia, T-SQL, PowerShell, etc.

    Knowledge and Abilities

    • Strong Experience working with various relational database technologies like MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL as well as NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra etc.
    • Experience of Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark and Hive
    • Experience with data pipeline tools such as Airflow, Spark, Kafka, or Dataflow
    • Experience working with containerization is advantageous
    • Experience with data quality and testing tools such as Great Expectations, dbt, or DataGrip is advantageous
    • Experience working with Big Data Cloud based (AWS, Azure etc) technologies is advantageous
    • Experience with data warehouse and data lake technologies such as BigQuery, Redshift, or Snowflake advantageous
    • Strong Experience designing end-to-end data pipelines.
    • Strong knowledge of data modeling, architecture, and governance principles

    Project Manager

    Overview of Duties:

    Brief Overview of Duties

    • Provide key support to the SANTHE leadership team and engage as an efficient and collaborative team member within the SANTHE secretariat.
    • Prepare progress reports and presentations as required.
    • Support the capture of SANTHE-specific information and help develop and maintain key databases for relevant information.
    • Liaise with stakeholders to support the implementation of an effective research and training programme throughout the network.
    • Help identify training needs, organise and manage workshops when needed across all sites.
    • Maintain accurate records on all trainees in the network and their associated projects including records of ethics approvals.
    • Work with the monitoring and evaluation team to ensure accurate and timely monitoring and evaluation of the programme.
    • Provide support to trainees in the network on a regular basis.
    • Ensure an Advisory Committee (AC) is in place for each trainee in the network and ensure accurate record keeping for all student-AC meetings/interactions and student-supervisor evaluations.
    • Help identify additional sources of financial support for the network in order to support the long-term goals of the network.
    • Lead key aspects of the SANTHE programme/manage specific sub-projects.
    • Liase with the AHRI Grants Management Specialists to help ensure that all the terms and conditions of the award are met.
    • Facilitate key meetings with various SANTHE stakeholders as and when needed.
    • Facilitate the SANTHE Trainee Recruitment process and provide key assistance throughout the Fellowship periods.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Degree in biological or health sciences (PhD and post-doctoral experience would be an advantage)

    Minimum Experience

    • A minimum of 3 years data management experience
    • A minimum of 3 years project management experience
    • Experience of preparing and managing budgets
    • Experience organizing symposia and scientific courses would be an advantage
    • Evidence of successful student supervision or co-supervision (or similar experience would be an advantage)

    Skills Required

    • Good verbal and written communication skills in English
    • High computer literacy

    • Understanding of good clinical practices
