    Underwriter

    Job Description

    • Manage the end-to-end customer experience for new and existing business by providing first line support to resolve queries, service and retain existing policies and generate sales by co-ordinating activities within Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
    • Telephonically guide customers through the product offering, pricing, terms and conditions.
    • Take ownership of queries and ensure they are resolved timeously and effectively.
    • Handle urgent and complex enquiries and requests received telephonically and via email.
    • Escalate unresolved matters and keep the customer informed of any delays in resolving an issue.
    • Maintain the outlined QA average on all calls.
    • Continuously monitor turnaround times and quality standards and resolve issues speedily to enhance client service delivery.
    • Accurately and efficiently capture all customer data.
    • Finalise calls at point of contact, where possible.
    • Forward accurate policy documents to customers within mandated timeframes.
    • Demonstrate excellent knowledge of the business product offerings, campaigns, rules and conditions in order to recommend the right solution to the customer.

    Requirements and Knowledge:

    • Matric and/or equivalent  
    • RE certificate essential
    • Must have a tertiary qualification in Commerce (NQF Level 6-7 or equivalent) or studying towards a Commercial Degree in Finance

    Specialist Underwriter

    Job Description

    • Provide technical underwriting expertise with a clear focus on growth, profitability and efficiency to enable quicker decision-making for new or existing business on larger risks, renewals and other technical product queries. Works with Sales to drive profit and premium growth for assigned portfolio/s by executing the organisational business plans.

    • Analyses quality and quantity of risks underwritten by product and prepare reports that review broker / intermediate books and profit / growth trends with recommended action plans.
    • Analyses portfolio underwriting performance, identifying problems within the portfolio and design and implement action plans to address / rectify portfolio performance.
    • Monitors market conditions, competitive landscape and researches risk, environment and factors necessary to grow new business of identified accounts.
    • Performs analysis of complex accounts by combining past experience, intuition and commercial / business acumen to fully understand the risk to enable strategic portfolio decisions to be made.
    • Deliver prioritised product pipeline and propose amendments to pricing models.
    • Discuss and explain Risk Reduction Requirements (RRR) from survey reports and negotiate with brokers to obtain buy-in.
    • Monitor and track compliance to underwriting guidelines and make recommendations to senior management to mitigate any risks identified.
    • Works with Sales to drive profit and premium growth for assigned portfolio/s by executing the organisational business plans.
    • Define and implement solutions for brokers to increase portfolio profitability and growth by understanding the customer appetite for organisational products, reasons for policies not being taken up, reasons for service failures and competitor product offerings.

    • Visit brokers to assist with renewal discussions on large and complex quotes.
    • Define and implement solutions to ensure the portfolio achieves production, profitability and service objectives.
    • Quotes, prices and underwrites renewal policies and endorsements, primarily for complex or service sensitive accounts.
    • Monitors risk selection and pricing decisions for portfolio/s both on a book of business and at an individual account level.
    • Proactively identifies opportunities through detailed performance plans with actions, accountabilities and scheduled performance checkpoints to maximize profit and pipeline management of the portfolio/s.
    • Approves above mandate referrals by combining research outcomes, past experience, intuition and commercial / business acumen to fully understand the risk and the impact of the referral.

    Experience, knowledge & skills required

    • Diploma and/or equivalent NQF Level 6 qualification in general insurance.
    • 3 – 5 years’ experience in personal lines underwriting.
    • 3 – 5 years’ experience in Old Mutual Insure.
    • Knowledge of Old Mutual Insure policy administration systems.

    Head of Technology and Data

    Job Description

    • This role is responsible for leading the technology and data capability within Old Mutual Multi-Managers. Aligning and guiding the delivery of a variety of IT and data services to support business objectives, through their team of IT and data specialists. The individual is responsible for creating the OMMM technology vision and strategy pertaining to the core platforms, security, data and digital, and automation. The Head of Technology and Data will be responsible for instituting the OMMM technology governance and ensuring that the service resilience framework is adhered to across the organisation along with providing the thought leadership pertaining to technology innovation and core technology capabilities within OMMM.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Accountable for the IT and data strategy, and the execution, for the OMMM.
    • Engaging with business stakeholders to understand their business needs
    • Establishing a strong data-driven approach to decision making across the organization
    • Design and build of IT & data architecture, infrastructure, and operations
    • Overseeing data management, data analytics, and data governance
    • Incorporate AI, automation, and machine learning principles.
    • Provides vision, direction and leadership to IT and data resources and structures.
    • Supports strategic goals of business by providing cost-effective business solutions.
    • Proactively develops principles, disciplines and the procedures required to govern the relationships and issues in the provision of IT business services.

    • Driving and directing technology & data strategic projects in collaboration with the COO and OMMM MD, that is aligned to business requirements and direction.
    • Manage and drive key technology partnerships to ensure value and efficiencies

    People Management:

    • Perform people management function for a team of driven data analysts and automation specialists.
    • Guide direction and priorities of the team
    • Accountable for team deliverables and quality of these
    • Perform deliverable reviews, coaching and feedback sessions to team, as required
    • Participate as a subject matter expert in the development & development planning of the IT and data team as required

    Qualification, Skill and Experience:

    • Relevant B-degree (Masters Preferable) in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Technology or Engineering
