    Researcher

    Brief Description        

    • The School invites applications for the position of Research Coordinator. The position is a two (2) year fixed-period contract appointment with a possibility of renewal subject to funding and performance.

    Requirements:

    • The incumbent, who will work closely with the Chair and will have a good understanding of the wider health sector and health economics landscape in the country, the region and globally, will be expected to: • Conduct scoping, systematic and other literature reviews

    Senior Lecturer

    Brief Description        
    SENIOR LECTURER: Technology and Engineering Graphics and Design

    • The Wits School of Education is seeking to appoint a suitable candidate at Senior Lecturer level to contribute to the School’s Initial Teacher Education and postgraduate programmes. The suitable candidate will be expected to lecture at undergraduate and postgraduate level, supervise postgraduate research, conduct research, and contribute to the advancement of Engineering Technology, and Engineering Graphics and Design in FET as a school subject. The senior lecturer will be expected to teach fundamental skills required for all aspects of technical drawing, the ability to perceive and visualize parts, and to interpret different views of an object, and conduct research in the growing area of research in smart classrooms, digital technology integration in teaching and learning, creating digital teaching and learning materials, and developing innovative pedagogy with technology. In addition, successful candidates will be encouraged to collaborate in areas of teachers’ content knowledge and their pedagogical skills, integration of knowledge and skills to enhance teaching and prepare pre-service teachers to fulfil their roles as a classroom teacher in the varying contexts of South African classrooms, secure research funding and teaching experiencing. Exciting possibilities exist for a successful applicant to join us in an established and vibrant community of educators and researchers at Wits.

    Qualifications and Experience: 

    • The successful candidate must meet the following criteria to be appointed:
    •     A PhD in Technology with concentration in Engineering Graphics & Design (EGD); Mechanical Technology, or any other related technical subjects with experience in FET phase Engineering Graphics and Design, and evidence of research and knowledge of EGD as a school subject.
    •     Evidence of research and successful postgraduate supervision and at least five years applicable practical, teaching and research experience. 
    •     Using CAD systems for the creation of 3D models including surface modelling and technical 2D drawings.
    •     Experience in robotics and developing new methods and algorithms for improving existing robots or creating new ones will be an added advantage.
    •     Evidence of teaching at university level especially on creative concept designs, utilising free hand sketches to communicate engineering concepts and functions.
    •     Experience in using multi-media presentation software to enhance teaching and learning in varying contexts of the South African classrooms and the development of undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the areas of EGD and Mechanical Technology. 
    •     Experience in programming robots to perform specific tasks such as picking up objects with robotic hands and responding to changes in its environment will be an added advantage.
    •     Experience in using Learning Management Systems to develop instructional content and expand access to instructional activities.
    •     Candidate must have strong commitment to both undergraduate & postgraduate education and research.
    •     Excellent computer skills and demonstrable knowledge of integrating Information & Communication Technology (ICT) tools in their teaching and the ability to develop digital learning materials.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    •     Develop research agenda, publish in accredited scholarly journals, and secure external funding to support research and postgraduate students.
    •     Supervision of postgraduate students to completion. 
    •     Contribute to the values of the school: teaching excellence, inclusivity, digital innovation, student success, etc.
    •     Contribute to the development and teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
    •     Coordinate courses and programmes in the school including participating in committees.

    • Applications are invited for a Senior Lecturer in the Division of Mathematics Education at the School of Education, University of the Witwatersrand. The division has highly knowledgeable teacher educators who are involved in high quality research projects with social impact. The Mathematics Education Division is famed for its contribution to world-class research. The division offers expertise in a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses including post-graduate diploma in mathematics education. 

    Duties:

    •     Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate mathematics content and methodology courses
    •     Supervision of honours, masters and PhD mathematics education students’ research
    •     Supervising students on teaching experience (work integrated learning)
    •     Division representation in school committees and coordination 
    •     The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the research activities of the school and the mathematics education field locally and internationally.

    Requirements

    •     Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Mathematics Education.
    •     Strong background in Mathematics content to be able to teach most of the following content courses at B.Ed. and B.Ed. Honours levels - Functions, Geometry, Calculus, Statistics, Financial Mathematics, Mathematical Modelling, Discrete Mathematics and Linear Algebra.
    •     A teaching qualification and experience at teaching at secondary school level - at least 3 years of mathematics and mathematics education teaching experience at tertiary level.

    Please Note:  Applicants are required to produce evidence in the form of academic transcripts that show that they have studied these courses at undergraduate/ postgraduate levels and/or have experience in teaching these content courses at undergraduate/postgraduate levels.

    Radio producer - Braamfontein

    Brief Description        

    • Are you interested in making innovative news and public interest radio programmes? The Wits Radio Academy is now looking for a radio producer (news and current affairs) to join its team. The successful candidate will work on news and current affairs programmes that are broadcast on VoW 88.1, Wits University’s campus station.  We also work with partner campus-based community stations to construct local versions of news and current affairs shows. 

    Key Areas of Responsibility: 

    •     Leading and managing VOW 88.1 newsroom, including sub-editing hourly news bulletins;
    •     Collaborating with the Academy’s Local Journalism and Radio Programming & Production course facilitators to build capacity and train VOW 88.1 and other partner campus-based community radio newsrooms and content development team members;
    •     Overseeing the production of sound-rich inserts for current affairs radio shows: conceptualizing, reporting, gathering sound, scripting and producing;
    •     Assisting the Academy and VOW 88.1 with news and current affairs show planning, live show production and debriefing afterwards;

    Digital Director

    Brief Description        
    The main purpose of this position/job is:

    • This Digital Director will be the driving force behind the WBS: Digital Transformation.
    • The individual will take full accountability for the Digital Deployment Strategy and oversee all Architecture, Infrastructure, Application development, network connectivity and Information Management of the program across the entire value chain.

    Residence Facilities Officer x2 AD08

    Brief Description        
    Responsibilities:

    •     Set out performance Outputs and measurements for each direct report (Handymen team)
    •     Management of your team as per the University’s HR policies and processes.
    •     Formulate a general scope of works for any minor to medium size refurbishment projects.
    •     Monitor budgets for maintenance work and manage external contractors and report on any variations.
    •     Liaising with Stakeholders regarding the execution of maintenance and / or other work assigned to the facilities management office.
    •     Supervise the facilities office in a manner that will enable effective and efficient customer focused service.

    Main Purpose:
