Associate Lecturer / Lecturer at University of the Witwatersrand

Brief Description        

• The Department of Philosophy at the University of the Witwatersrand seeks to appoint an Associate Lecturer / a Lecturer in a permanent position, commencing July 1, 2023. The post is open to candidates who have a research profile in, at least, one of, and can teach at least two of, the following areas: Epistemology, Philosophy of Language, Philosophical Logic. Preference may be given to candidates researching in, or able to teach in one or more of these areas: Feminist Philosophy, Indian Philosophy, Islamic Philosophy, Chinese Philosophy. 
• Associate Lecturer – Candidates should fulfil all requirements for conferral of the degree of PhD by 31 December 2023 and demonstrate evidence of research ability and potential; they should show competence in teaching and participation in administrative roles. 
• Lecturer – Candidates should possess a PhD and demonstrate evidence of research ability and potential; they should have a track record of competent teaching and show willingness to participate in administrative roles. 
• Specifically, the successful candidate will be expected to teach large and diverse classes in all years of study, contribute to the Department’s Applied Ethics for Professional Program, cooperate with colleagues in advancing the objectives of the Department, and contribute actively to the intellectual and administrative life of the Department and University.
