    Junior Health and Safety Officer

    The required functions of this position are:

    • Weekly photographic inspections of branches
    • Regular site walks to ensure department visibility and branch/project PPE compliance
    • Toolbox talk attendance and/or presentation
    • Drafting of Project safety Files
    • Compilation of Site/Project safety reports
    • Assisting with transport of employees to medical appointments
    • TLD (Radiation dosimeters) issue/collection/Delivery
    • Site supervisor file auditing
    • Safe Work Procedures and Risk Assessments reviews
    • Trend analysis of incidents with focused awareness campaigns
    • Incident investigations
    • Compiling risk assessments
    • Coordinating injuries on duty process

    Qualifying Experience:

    • Matric / Grade 12
    • SAMTRAC or Related technical certificate
    • Diploma in Occupational H&S or equivalent advantageous
    • 1 to 3 Years working experience in health and safety.
    • SAIOSH registration advantageous
    • SACPCMP registration advantageous
    • Experience in metal recycling or related environment will be advantageous
    • Computer literate – MS Office, internet and e-mail
    • Strong legislative knowledge – OHSAct, COIDA, Regulations, By-Laws
    • Experience drafting site/project specific H&S documentation
    • Knowledge/experience in conducting incident investigations
    • Drafting Risk Assessments and safe work procedures

    Mechanical Engineer

    Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    • Detailed design of industrial machines, sub-components, sheet metal design, weldments & large-scale assemblies
    • Generate detailed drawings and BOM’s
    • Prepare manufacturing and assembly instructions
    • Extensive experience with industrial machinery and structural design
    • Ensuring all inspection and preventative maintenance tasks are documented and scheduled on the group CMMS
    • Liaise with other departments about failures and potential solutions
    • Drive preventive and predictive maintenance
    • Drive continuous improvement
    • Undertake quality assurance on mechanical work executed
    • Compile reports on failures and tasks

    Qualifying Criteria

    • BSc/B.Eng./B-Tech in Mechanical
    • At least 8 – 10 years’ experience in the maintenance or production environment
    • Competency in computer aided engineering design and drawing
    • Hands-on working experience in a maintenance or manufacturing environment is essential
    • Experience in hydraulic system design and maintenance advantageous
    • Experience in electrical control systems advantageous
    • Proven project management experience
    • Proven leadership experience
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Must be fully Computer literate (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook)
    • Must have Strong proven administrative skills

    Technical Engineering Manager

    Job description:

    • The Engineering Division is responsible for the effective repair and preventative maintenance of the company’s recycling plant and equipment. The role requires assistance with the management of the engineering division for the Cape Town region.
    • One of the key functions of this role is to evaluate and establish best practice in repair methods and also to provide cost analysis on repair services and manufactured components used. In addition, the Engineering Division manages all development and expansion projects across the Group.
    • The Technical Manager would assist with directing 10 separate artisan departments, comprising of more than 150 employees. Each such department is managed by its own Manager.
    • External services providers used are independent companies which supplement this in-house team, when specialized skill sets or additional resources as required. They report to the engineering team as described below and would be involved in managing relationships and services.
    • The Engineering Division consists of a team of Engineers, led by the Engineering Divisional Directors, who are also Mechanical Engineers. The successful applicant will join this team and report directly to the Senior Engineering Manager.

    Qualifying Criteria:

    • Qualified Mechanical Engineer or Mechatronics Engineer. All appropriate University or Technikon qualifications will be acceptable.
    • 5 to 10 years relevant working experience in a heavy industrial environment as a practicing engineer is essential.
    • Atleast 5 years spent in a management role in an operations environment is essential.
    • Diagnostic skills and logical thinking is essential. The ability to think on your feet will be an advantage, even when working under pressure.

    Security Officer

    The Security Department requires a Security Officer at the Pretoria Branch who will be responsible for the below security tasks:

    • Ensure access and egress is controlled at all SA Metal property by completing the necessary registers and operating the gates.
    • Searching pedestrians, vehicles and personal belongings of any person/s exiting SA Metal premises.
    • Ensure that all customers and visitors are issued with PPE and that the PPE is returned after their visit.
    • Ensure that any item/s leaving the SA Metal premises is accompanied by the relevant documentation.
    • Ensure that all company procedures are adhered to before granting access to staff viz. Breathalyzer tests are conducted and passed.
    • Ensure that all the assigned areas are patrolled at regular intervals.
    • Ensure that all company policies and procedures are fully adhered to at all times.
    • Observing and reporting suspicious activities.

    QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE

    • Matric/Grade 12.
    • Grade C, PSIRA Registered.
    • 2-3 years’ relevant work experience.

    Skidsteer Operator

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    • The Skidsteer Operator’s primary purpose is to provide support within the Production division as dictated by operational requirements in the form of moving objects and sweeping large areas. The following tasks will include, but are not limited to:

    Responsibilities (NOT limited to the below)

    • Carry out daily inspections of the Skidsteer and report any faults
    • Do general maintenance and cleaning of the Skidsteer
    • Move and place objects of steel and other scrap material where instructed
    • Assist in loading containers
    • Sweep and clean roadways in production yard
    • Complete check lists and log sheets
    • Maintain safe working procedures at all times
    • Abide by the regulations as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Company policies

    QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE

    • Grade 12 certificate or equivalent
    • Valid Skidsteer license and/or certificate
    • 2 – 5 years relevant experience
    • Willingness to work overtime
    • Previous experience in a physically demanding working environment would be advantageous
