• A Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/ degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the SANC as Professional Nurse.
• Registration with the SANC as Professional Nurse and current registration.
• A post-basic nursing qualification with duration of at least 1 year, accredited with the SANC in one of the specialties stated above.
• Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/ recognizable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.

• At least 10 years of the above period must be appropriate /recognizable experience after obtaining the 1 year post basic qualification in the relevant speciality.
• A minimum of three months experience in Child Nursing will be an added advantage and service record will be submitted by shortlisted candidates.

Duties :

•  Perform a clinical nursing practice in accordance with the scope of practice and required nursing standards.
• Demonstrate an understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical nursing practices.
• Promote quality of nursing care as directed by professional scope of practice and standards as determined by the relevant health facility.
• Able to plan and organize own work and ensure proper nursing care.
• Demonstrate effective communications with patients, supervisors and other stake holders including report writing when required.
• Work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure good nursing care.

• Conduct training to all categories of personnel. Perform medical surveillance.
• Maintain all appropriate records and documents relevant to OHS. Participate in Institutions’ and Province’s determined Committees, Task Teams and Forums for service improvement.

• Basic qualification accredited with SANC in terms of Government Notice R425 (Degree or Diploma in Nursing).
• Post basic qualification in terms of Government Notice R48 with a duration of at least 1 year in Curative Skills in Primary Health Care (Clinical Nursing Science, Health Assessment, Treatment and Care) accredited with the SANC. Current registration with South African Nursing Council is essential. An additional qualification in Nursing Administration/Management will be an added advantage.

Duties :

• The incumbent will be responsible to interview, investigate, diagnose, and oversee the treatment of patient related administrative duties, participating in all activities of the discipline in relation to teaching and research, participating in departmental audit activates, preparing and writing of reports, liaison and communication services and community liaison.
• Check reasonable throughput of patients on the lists of the day.
• Competency in plain film, fluoroscopy, sonar, CT, MRI, and Mammography. Experience in Intervention will be of value. Supervising junior doctors (registrars, undergraduate students, interns, and community service doctors). Commuted overtime is mandatory.
• Attendance of relevant administrative meeting like multi-disciplinary team meetings, near miss meeting and completing MEDICO Legal Documents timeously (e.g., Death certificate) is required.
• Improve quality of care by providing appropriate clinical care.
• Reduce medical litigation by exercising good clinical ethos.
• Implement and monitor adherence to National Core Standards (norms and standards).
• Performance of practical procedures relevant to the care of patients. Participation in departmental meetings, journal clubs, case presentations and lectures.
• Ensure that administration and record keeping is done in the department.
• Rendering of after-hour (night, weekend, and public holiday) duties to provide continuous uninterrupted care of patients.
• Rotation to both Helen Joseph Hospital and Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital is required.
• The post is a joint appointment with the University, requiring registrar and undergraduate teaching and research supervision.
