    Medical Technician - Immunohaematology (Pinelands)

    Purpose of the Job:

    • Performs all routine and complex testing on patient and donor blood samples for blood groups, Rh, antibody screens and identification, titre and phenotyping tests, contributing to blood safety in Transfusion Medicine. 
    • In special circumstances, molecular testing will be required. 
    • Carries out administrative duties pertaining to the functioning of the laboratory.

    Requirements

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Senior Certificate.
    • Medical Technician certificate (Blood Transfusion).
    • Registered with HPCSA.
    • Computer literate.
    • 2 years of previous blood transfusion experience.

    A combination of the following skills, knowledge, and attributes is required:

    • Have an affinity for automated lab systems and computer systems.
    • Good interpersonal skills.
    • Must be able to work as part of a team and be flexible.
    • No shift work is required but incumbent will be rostered to be on call for a week at a time. Being on call requires the incumbent to answer telephonic queries from blood banks (24/7). In specific, circumstances the incumbent will have to travel to work to perform tests to resolve queries.

    Clinic Department – George Regional Branch (Paterson Grade B4) 

    Purpose of the Job

    • To supervise the precise and efficient progress of a blood donor clinic.
       

    A combination of the following skills, knowledge and attributes is required:

    • Be accountable for the administrative & operational function of the clinic
    • Be responsible, reliable and trustworthy
    • Good knowledge of the work instruction manual and aspects of Blood Transfusion
    • Accuracy in recording information and possess problem solving skills
    • Have a friendly disposition and show a keen interest in the work
    • A willingness to work as part of a team is essential
    • Need to organise, delegate and work independently
    • Together with the clinic sister, ensure that all the needs of the donor public are professionally met
    • Multilingual
    • Customer services

    Requirements

    Minimum Requirements

    • Matric Certificate
    • Supervisory/Management certification would be an added advantage
    • Completion of in-house Donor Host/Hostess course would be advantageous
    • Previous experience as a deputy team leader would be advantageous
    • Computer Literate
    • Reliable transport
    • A code 8 driver’s licence without endorsements would be an advantage
    • Reside or willingness to relocate to the George Region
    • The working hours are variable i.e. shift basis

    • Accuracy in data collection
    • Fluent in English and Afrikaans
    • Must be able to work as part of a team
    • Skilled in customer services and the ability to deal with the public
    • Willingness to relocate to George
