    Senior Environmental Consultant

    Job Purpose:

    The candidate will provide support and leadership in the field of environmental assessment, sustainable development, strategic environmental planning and a range of other environmental management fields.

    Core Functions:

    • Manage EIA projects.
    • Compile proposals and reports.
    • Coordinate project schedules.
    • Manage budgets.
    • Appoint and manage specialists.
    • Facilitate stakeholder engagement.
    • Develop and sustain new business and client relationships.
    • Mentor junior colleagues. 

    Competencies:

    • Excellent knowledge and application of environmental legislation.
    • Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment.
    • Self starter and committed team player.
    • Excellent reporting and presentation skills – additional languages would be advantageous.

    Senior Geochemistry / Environmental Geology Consultant

    Job Description

    A suitably qualified consultant with experience in geology and/or geochemistry consulting related to contamination management, mining and remediation processes.

    The candidate will be required to ensure technical delivery of projects, including risk and quality management.  The candidate should have experience in development of technical documents (reports) for key clients throughout various project execution phases (pre-feasibility, feasibility, site assessment, remediation, and decommissioning/closure). The candidate will maintain, build, and further develop client relationships as part of project delivery and business development.  The candidate should have experience in managing and executing projects in South Africa and elsewhere.

    Principal Tailings Dam Breach Engineer

    Qualifications and experience required:
    Qualification: A Civil Engineering or equivalent international undergraduate degree as a minimum (preferably a post-graduate degree) with speciality in water engineering and/or soil mechanics and/or mineral residue design and management.
    Professional registration: Registered Professional Engineer (where jurisdictions include such legislated professional associations, such as Australia, Canada, South Africa, UK, the United States, etc.).

    Years of experience: A minimum of 15 years with at least 8 years in the consulting field specifically related to mineral residue deposits.

    Type of experience:  Extensive experience in tailings dam breach analysis and inundation studies, soil mechanics and tailings engineering projects. A background including post-graduate studies in water engineering would be an advantage. A considered and thorough working knowledge and application of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM), applicable international standards and codes, and the SANS 10286 is essential.

    General requirements:
     
    We are engaging Principal Engineers for our Environmental Geotechnical (Engeo) Business Unit. The successful candidate will be involved in:

    • A variety of projects, mainly in Southern and Central Africa;
    • A stimulating work environment where ongoing innovation and technological development is an essential requirement to meet changing environmental and residue material behaviours. 

    Reporting to the Business Unit Partner, you will primarily be responsible for leading dam breach and inundation and related studies for TSFs, and in addition, also typically be involved in:

    • Geotechnical investigations to evaluate the engineering properties and in situ conditions of TSFs;
    • Engineer of Record roles and responsibilities during the construction, operating, decommissioning and closure phases of a TSF;
    • Ongoing attention to individual and team development and growth to remain at the forefront of residue management technology will be a key requirement and success factor.

    Environmental Scientist / Environmental Assessment Practitioner

    A vacancy for an ambitious Environmental Scientist / Environmental Assessment Practitioner has become available in our Port Elizabeth office.     Civil Engineering Technologist

    Description

    A qualified individual with proven experience and expertise in civil engineering infrastructure projects. The applicant would be expected to coordinate the implementation of projects and management on a subtask level, including client liaison, budgets and guiding of junior staff. The successful candidate will be based in Gqeberha and will also provide support to SRK’s Principal consultants on a variety of projects. A willingness to travel is essential as the successful candidate may be required to work on projects in diverse locations.

    Experience and Skills

    The candidate must:

    • Have a BSc / BEng / BTech in Civil Engineering.
    • Have a professional registration or be eligible to register with ECSA (Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng).
    • Have a 6 - 10 years of experience in the consulting field.
    • Ancillary expertise in e.g., structural, water and wastewater treatment or mining engineering will be an advantage.
    • Possess good writing and communication skills.
    • Be proficient at MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project and MS PowerPoint.
    • Be proficient in AutoCAD (Civil 3D or TechnoCAD knowledge will be an advantage).
    • Be willing to work across disciplines, and to develop a diverse skill set.
    • Work as a part of a team, providing support where it is required.
    • Be resourceful, with good initiative and the ability to work independently.

    General Requirements

    • Planning, design and implementation of civil engineering infrastructure projects including compilation of tender and contract documentation.
    • Coordination of projects and management on a subtask level, including client liaison, budgets, invoicing, personnel and guiding of junior staff.
    • Writing of technical reports and letters.
    • The successful person should be able to multitask and although we work in a team environment, he/she should also be able to work independently.
    • Traveling in South Africa but potentially in Africa may be required.
    • Ability to work to tight deadlines and on multiple projects.

    Civil Engineering Intern

    The Civils Department in the SRK Durban Office is offering a 12-month Internship to a successful candidate with a relevant degree and an interest in pursuing a career in Civil Engineering. SRK will offer remuneration commensurate with an Intern position.
